We discuss: How David became passionate about airway and sleep, and why he is passionate about treat...

The pain can be so severe that it forces us to reduce our workload and can even lead to depression, chemical dependence, and suicide. Unfortunately, most dental professionals were never taught correct ergonomics and posture, and that’s why I wanted to have Ke...

Another fantastic chat. Thank you.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
Again, you hit the nail on the head. We orthodontists have spent a hundred years treating symptoms. It's time we begin to treat causes. GO Deluke!
Thank you for the kind words and I couldn't agree more!!
Great interview, Thank you for great content.
Glad you enjoyed it!!☺
Amazing podcast, gentleman! Way to propel the professions forward and show we are doctoring professions that have an amazing capacity to collaborate and really provide comprehensive care!

Such an interesting podcast on work/life balance. So much that is logical yet somehow gets overlooked in our busy world. Thank you.
Thank you, Helen! I completely agree!
I appreciate the organized and persuasive presentation. Well done!
Thank you! Glad you found it helpful!
I love how you bring light to a very important topic in dentistry. Bringing awareness will help dentist tremendously! It will provide them with life saving tools to be successful in their professional and personal life.
Thank you for the kind words! Looking forward to your episode as well! 🙂
Thanks Docs! It was really informative
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed it!
Kudos to Dr. Yoon! When I was struggling with sleep issues, I felt like no one was listening to me until I met her. She has an exceptional understanding of how facial anatomy affects these issues and the pathophysiology of sleep apnea from both medical and dental perspectives. Her explanations were clear, honest, and incredibly warm and I finally felt someone finally understood my problem. She is truly the most amazing dentist I've ever encountered. Great interview to show how knowledgeable she is.
Thank you and I agree - Dr. Yoon is amazing!! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the episode!
This was a very interesting conversation. I have a greater appreciation of the challenges and great opportunities for collaboration with orthodontists! Thank you so much!!🎉
Thank you and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
This was such a great episode, especially from a general dentist's perspective! I have to say, Dr. Scott's journey into sleep and airway driven Orthodontics sounded exactly like mine, because it when I wanted to do something about my 6 year old daughter's deep bite that all these connections were revealed to me! Also, his powerpoint is quite like the one i show my patients parents :) Keep going Dr. DeLuke!
I truly appreciate the kind words and I promise to keep fighting to get the word out! Kudos to you for expanding your reality to help your little one! 🙂
If you actually want to advance the field of orthodontics, don’t spend your time making videos about parent testimonials. This will never help to convince orthodontists who are skeptical about your methods. Please please please, even if it’s the last thing you want to do, for the sake of your profession, do research and publish papers. I don’t doubt that you helped this little girl. I just know that videos like this aren’t made to convince other orthodontists.
Thank you for your comment. Have you seen my other episodes on this channel where I review the literature? I also have numerous lectures (free and paid CE) on my website (www.TheOrthoCoach.com) that provide hundreds of references, cases, etc. This was just ONE example that I put out there to show what's possible. I've actually had numerous orthos reach out to me to tell me this DID inspire them to look into this treatment approach. I'm also working on a research study at NSU. In the meantime, I'll continue to use my knowledge and abilities to help kiddos like Lauren!
What an unnecessarily spiteful comment. There is an enormous emotional reward in helping children grow and develop to become the absolute best versions of themselves. (and preventing years of unnecessary suffering). That is what's on display here.
I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be too negative. I’m glad that you are reviewing lit in other vids and doing research at a uni.
Tom Pitts is a legend. He is the central hub of an amazing wheel of great and inspiring orthodontists. And Dr. Duncan Brown is the same - a legend and together they are a team. The orthodontists they have attracted to become part of a great community of teachers and eager students is nothing short of a gift to the profession. I have been so blessed to learn from the best of the best, who leave their egos at the door. Not many people can say they have learned and rubbed shoulders with world class people in any discipline. I am lucky to be one of those few. Rock on Tom!
I couldn't agree more!!
Such a great interview, especially the mention of the gathering of all the research that is already out there. Well done Steffen.
😊
The term that comes to my mind when I think of how most orthodontists wait till adolescence to begin any treatment, is 'supervised neglect '. I became "airway aware" after I did a Fellowship in pediatric sleep apnoea last year, and so when I see Kevin o' Brian's blogs every now and then, trying to say 'extractions don't cause airway issues, there's no real advantage of early treatment', I want to tell him you're asking the wrong questions!! The real debate should orthopaedics early vs extraction Orthodontics later! I'd like to say kudos for the podcasts to both of you 😊
Thanks so much for the kind words! I totally agree that Kevin is asking the wrong questions. Unfortunately, that tends to happen when people become dogmatic and myopic. You're on the right track and let me know if I can be of any assistance in your journey!

I am analyzing your youtube channel. And find that your content is really good. I also noticed that your title-description-tag is not SEO friendly. Your channel optimization is poor, resulting in a zero SEO score. As a result, your videos are not reaching the right audience, which is affecting your view count If you want, I can customize your UA-cam channel according to UA-cam terms. So that you can see better results for your UA-cam channel. And I will do onpage and offpage SEO for your UA-cam so that your UA-cam channel videos appear in the top search results of Google and UA-cam. Thanks and I look forward to your response
Your hypothesis proposed (at about minute 50:00) regarding why you think the IOTN for ‘state-funded’ ortho pts (w/o posterior crossbites)might actually be responsible for increased Rx’s for bicuspid ext’s in Ortho residency programs is interesting, and probably supportable. I think another hypothesis to consider Mike, regarding why most most ortho residents, after graduating, are reluctant, resistant or completely refuse to Dx/Tx young children (under 72 months old) with hypoplastic skeletal malocclusions (in the transverse and/or sagittal dimensions, w or w/o posterior and/or anterior ‘dental’ crossbites)…..are you curious Mike, or perhaps we’ve already discussed this particular void in the CODA-guided ortho curriculum guidelines?
Great point, Kevin! It's certainly multifaceted and I agree that CODA is likely another issue/obstacle. And that's likely the case regarding the treatment of 6-8-year-olds, let alone younger patients. I also feel the pedo and ortho departments need to work together instead of opposing one another. It's definitely going to take time to change the system, but it needs to happen for the health and wellness of these kiddos. I'll email you so we can coordinate a time to have you on the podcast to discuss this (and other topics related to airway, early tx, etc.) in much more detail!
OK, but what is the maximum cbct a 9 year old can get with in 6 month to 12 months? It's the orthodontics..
Great info - thank you ! 🙏
You're very welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
hello sir
Excellent pod but I'm afraid you chaps may be preaching to the choir. This sort of information should be getting out to the public.
Thank you for your comment. I don't disagree and I'm working on that! But you'd be surprised how many dentists (even orthos) have no idea about this topic as it's not taught to us in our residencies. So we need to educate both the providers and the public. Please share the show to help get the message out!
@@michaeldeluke5603 I agree Mike. I have patients traveling 5 state borders to come to me for this work and all ask "Why can't I find anyone doing this work near me?" And this is for 16 years now. Ryan, you chaps need to expand the choir! Derek says it himself... I just start working with the infants to 3 year olds! There is plenty for us to do to help kids grow better.
Amazing interview. Could you please send me the study you quote of izea in 2021 assessing 10000 mri. We need to connect
Thank you for the kind words! I messaged you in FB w/the link to the study but here it is again if others what to see it: www.nature.com/articles/s41467-021-22534-0.

Very interesting show. I’m a pediatric dentist and this information is starting to change the way I approach my patients. It’s crazy how none of this is taught in dental school or residency.
Thanks for the reply, Andrew! I completely agree and that's exactly what motivated me to start the DOC platform. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help!
I really enjoyed this conversation. Dr. DeLuke, Dr. Bernstein, I would love to chat with both of you about phase I treatment, myofunctional therapy, growth modification, etc. I would love to learn more from you, and share what I've learned. Dr. DeLuke, thanks for putting this out!
Thank you for the kind words, Dr. Gessel! I'll message you on FB so we can coordinate a time to connect!
Mike I am becoming more enthusiastic about this information. I know my patients are benefiting from this information. I am an orthodontist age 74 - my journey at this age is how do we make our patients more healthy early . I am seeing older patients with issues snoring, on CPAP etc…that if transverse dimension had been addressed 20-30 years ago they would not have to go through major surgery. Keep up the good work with your podcasts- people will listen to podcasts today before they will read a book although I have been recommending the book since it came out (adding your podcast as supplemental material). Thanks!!!
I appreciate the kind words! As I often say, once you see airway, you can't unsee it! Lol. I have lots of additional information on my website (www.TheOrthoCoach.com) and feel free to reach out to me at drmike@theorthocoach.com if you want to discuss further!
Been using this book since start of 2023 to help educate parents on importance of early treatment recognition. Parents really appreciate educating them.
Thanks for the chance to visit Mike.
Sure thing! Thanks for being on the show!
Intriguing, I would love to see some of your cases achieving expansion on young kids with braces. I’m doing expansion on 7-9 year old kids and would love to find a more comfortable solution for them.
Hi Leon. On my website (www.TheOrthoCoach.com), I have courses (some free, some tuition-based CE) that go into this in great detail. I also have podcasts on this channel [(DOC Podcast (Ep.2 & 3) - A Paradigm Shift in our Approach to Interceptive Treatment: Parts I & II] that explain the overall concept and show cases. I also offer one-on-one coaching through my website if you have any questions on particular cases. Trust me, once you start treating patients this way, you will never go back to hyrax-type expanders!
We have found that it's REALLY important to do couples only trips also. Date night is fine, but it takes me a whole day to set aside all the stresses of kids, work, church, etc. A strong marriage pays huge dividends in all other areas of my life. We try for one week just us couples and one other long weekend and maybe an occasional overnight.
SUCH a great point! I couldn't agree more and should have mentioned this as well. We would take trips to concerts and short 2-night getaways in the months between our family vacations and it really gave us something to look forward to.
