Jeep Cherokee XJ 4.0 Knocking Noise

Pretty sure it's not Flexplate, double check that already. I'm thinking a rod but not sure. Comes and goes, usually when warm but sometimes disappears completely but then comes back. Update: ended up pulling the engine and replacing the bottom end bearings which appeared to have been washed out and were in need of replacement. But bothing too noticeable. Put it all back together and it still kn...

How to Remove a Seized Piston
Переглядів 263 тис.8 років тому
Update: I had the block bored 40 over and the crank turned 20 over on both the rods and the mains. I have since built the engine with Tim Meyer flattop pistons and a mild cam 268h from computer cams. And of course an edelbrock intake and 1405 edelbrock carburetor. How to remove a piston using a rag, gasoline, and ATF. This is on a Ford 400 but will work on just about any motor. Not only was the...

Welds pop a lot but not as bad as bad diodes. Seems to be that higher the voltage, the less popping their is. Update: Turned out to be the power plug had melted internally and caused a loose/bad connection.

2014 Wrangler JK Poison Spyder Comp Stinger Install
Time out! Flag on the play. Minute 6 Yo. After all that build up and exclusivity about banging that hot beeeyotch out after being on fire and you do not even show the money shot. What up Yo?
where are the wieners and marshmellows? good job amigo
Top to bottom top to bottom unless your gonna trash the piston then have at it.
im having this exact noise. thanks for posting the update in the description. i did the same thing, i put new rod bearings in and the knock still came back.
That stand acts like a spring and absorbs the blows from the hammer. You had the right hammer and the fire trick. But you should have laid the block on the ground and beat on the piston with a few hard blows. We all have set backs when working on engines. I couldn't get an exhaust to bolt up to a header once. I had to sit back and think about it. Took the header off the block loosely bolted it to the exhaust and the block where they could all wiggle together. Then bolted them all up at the same time. That worked.
So fire in the hole is just gonna expand the piston as well as the block so many things wrong here. Good try get your chisel and finish honing the cylinder😂
That ur flywheel
Throw the engine off a appartement. The impact will losen it
Put diesel on the top of the piston for a week. (Or a month.) then use a wooden block(end wood) that sticks out a little more than the combustion chamber is. put back the cylinder top, tighten the four surrounding cylinder top bolts and the piston will move down. wiggle it up and down with hammer. use thin oil or diesel. finally it will come all the way. To use heat can do the trick, but I would think twice since the cooling water is not there and heat can make serious damage to the cylinder block.
Well, this video was strangely the “only” pre-97 Cherokee interior bulb replacement tutorial I could find, so a big Thank You. But, I’m still curious how I go about getting the 4 lens covers removed from the overhead console to replace the map lights. You talk about how you did it, but the lens cover you remove has already been dislodged at the button when we see it; and that’s my issue with my Briarwood. I tried prying from atop the button, but none of the 4 covers will come off (with any ease). I feel like I’m just about to break them. Can you comment exactly how you went about prying them all off; or better yet, upload a video of you tackling the lens cover, from the very start? They’re the only bulbs for me to replace, and I just don’t want to break anything. I ASSUME that’s there’s just one small centered tab at the black button section of the lens cover; and you push in, then down to open it… Confirm?
I’m going to try and take down the console entirely. I’ll let you know how that goes… Doesn’t state how to remove it in the manual.
What year is ur jeep I have a 1992 xj I painted mine Rust-Oleum army green camo. It looks good. Trying figure out how I can make a black star on the hood and the doors an paint those black. And put army on the side lol
THis is nice. The original mirrors are like having dental mirrors attached to the side. They're ridiculous. Been wanting to upgrade these for awhile, just didn't know if I could.
I usually quit after 3 minutes. 6 hours. Wow, persistence.
I've used a propane torch to remove stuck bolts and nuts. Even worked on salt water eye bolts to anchors. They go 'tink' and that's the sign it has started popping loose. Would a torch work on the piston and cylinder the same?
Mis luces del domo dejaron de prender a la hora en que abro la puerta, a que se deberá? Siguen prendiendo manualmente
I didn’t know there was a climate control light!! I’ve been pulling out my flashlight to turn up the heat haha.
Thank you! You are one of the best Jeep DIY Video presenters I've seen. You go into the fine details. This is necessary. Hell, I'm not a jeep dash light expert, I already have a day job. I like seeing the actual light being removed, then replaced. GREAT JOB!
Worst video i ever seen.
What a dickhead he dont know shit from apple butter.
I did this exact same mod. Worked great for 8 months then the bracket failed. You'll need to add extra support to the rear.
Is there anything stopping a guy from bolting the main leaf from the s10 into the Xj frame? From a quick measurement it looks like it should fit but I know everyone cuts the eyes off and leaves the main leafs in place. Just that my leafs are soo worn out.
The small sledge is a 3 lb and the larger one at work we called a ten lb. I know they weigh different than that but at work that was what we called them when asked to get one
Good job dude! I love making stuff work that others give up on! The 400 is actually really easy to get to be a strong running motor. Jon Kasse was asked how to get 400 horse power out of one of these... he says easy! Just ad 3 C’s. compression, cam and carburetion. Then pull off plug wires till you get there lol.
The next time you have this problem, use brake fluid before any other penetrating oil...brake fluid will seep into places most penetrating oil won't...give it a try.
What! No marshmallows?
Your love tappan it wack the sum bitch
if there was a big ring groove at the top, how you gonna get past that coming out the top.
Just so you know its not a sludge hammer its a sledge hammer
There’s a difference between a “hit” and a tap. You sir your tapping it. Quit being a girl hold the tube with a pair of vise grips if you have too and HIT it lol
Nice rx8
Gas don’t blow in your face 😂. Even without the atf it still burn the same like that
How to Remove a Seized Piston *RX8 in the background*
I don't think you even needed to light it on fire... what you do is if you stick your rod down in there and you use some rags to hold it in position that way you can put two hands on your sledgehammer and actually swing it... not just lift it up and let it fall. you weren't swinging the hammer Bud. that was the wimpiest swinging of a sledgehammer I've ever seen. With that little Sledgehammer you should have been able to break that piston right out of that bore.... done it many of times myself. They always come out in pieces long as they're not forged then it takes something pointed.
I could never be so calm with something that doesn’t work the first time like this man lol
Couldve used diesel if you didnt want it to blow up in your face but ok🤷♂️
Get yourself a piece of wood approximately the diameter of the piston put it firmly on the face of the piston and hit it like a big boy.
You could’ve just heat it up with a torch and wait for it to cool then start pounding also add oil with it.
You can always tell by the change of note that something is letting go.
100 better ways to do this, better off heating the block then cooling the piston but risk cracking something. All you did was break the rusty bind by expanding the cylinder, the piston expansion didn't help. Most people use heat on bolts to expand them and cause the rust bind to break, or expand the nuts so there is more space to move the debris past it. If you heat up the inside part, you still have to wait for it to cool down before tryin to break it free.
ya and now to bore it out 80 over after all the hammer marks
oil is your friend use some
After you get it hot, let it cool off to ambient, then start hammering.
Did you used to play with matches when you grew up?
Ford lol
A long bar and a fence post driver. No heat required.
What do you do about the marred cylinder now the piston is out?
A sludge hammer🤔
For extra measure, spray some of that Monsanto Round Up, to kill that engine and car.
"It worked"? Yeah right, Doctor, you killed the patient! Sick never again.
Do i need to put a longer shock absorber?
Yes
