Navy Retirement
Переглядів 2199 років тому
I retired from the U. S. Navy in 1977 at NSGA Northwest VA. My parents attended the ceremony and Capt. Saylor present my father with flag flown during the ceremony. I parted goodbye with CTMCM Todd Allen, CTMCS James White and the rest of Mat Gang.
Lots of fond memories of BHaven. !961-1964 with the 6913th RSM. All 3 of my daughters were born at the 33rd Station Hospital.
Ganz klasse gemacht. Thanks David. Greetings from Caloundra Australia
David, do you remember where was this Lolita Restaurant which appears in your video at 1:15 minutes?
My brother served on this ship in 67-68 around Africa. He was a PO3 (CT-"spook"). He was serving when the USS Liberty was attacked.
Great memories here including my old '56 Borgward in front of bldg 13 at the start of the film! I was a Navy CT and volunteer DJ at AFN too. '65/'66. Thanks for sharing!
That's my Cyprus. I went out with my parents at the age of 4 left at 16 in 1974. Thanks for the memories.
Toll sehr schön, Danke ❤️
Wonderful memories of living on the island 1965-69. The music was perfect for the video ❤️

I was on the Valdez from 1966 to 1967. When were these pictures taken.
Hi David, I was stationed in Bremerhaven '61 - '64. Your video really brought back a lot of great memories. THANKS !
6913th RSM Jan 1961 to Jan 1964 Steve "Slatz" Sladaritz
David, I think that's me at the 1:48 mark. I'm on the far right and I think I'm talking to Dan Morrison. Any way we can talk?
I spent three weeks there in 1968,it was absolutely beautiful but not quite as idyllic as seen here, the Turkish Cypriots were still living in enclaves like the old city of Famagusta and villages around the island identified by red crescent flags and the presence of blue-beret wearing UN troops who were there to protect them.
I kept hoping to see my Dad. He must have been on the ship at a different time, or just avoided pictures. It was still neat to see some of the stuff that he must have seen back then. Thanks for putting these images up for others to see.
Nice photos and good music. Thanks for sharing
Lagis, are we related? From where about in Cyprus are your roots? My surname is originating from the fact that many people in my family were left-handed.
@@tzevrou Yiasou Spyro. I think my family name originates for the same reason. My grandfather was left handed. From Tseri Village in Nicosia district. How about you?
@@lagiszavros7730 Lagis, I was also born left handed, but the Cyprus Church in those days didn't like people using their keft hand for writing, so I was spanked badly until I learned to write with my right hand. People in thse days were ignorant that it had to do with the brain. If you have old members of your family still around, please ask them if they have relatives in Larnaka tis Lapithou or in Fini village, near Platres.
@@tzevrou 😂 that’s typical of the Church. Trying to get everybody in line. 😂 our name started from my grandfather and I pretty much know all my cousins and relatives. No links to the villages you mention but I can ask. Do you have any link to Tseri?
@@lagiszavros7730 Of what I know, I am afraid that my family has no links to Tseri.
My good old hometown Bremerhaven! Thank for showing ...
Bremerhaven... what happened to you..? Now its a ****hole....
Ποιο χωριο ειναι
Nice Video from my Hometown Bremerhaven. Best regards to all GI´s we miss you in Bremerhaven.
Thanks David. My Father was in Bremerhaven those years. It was great to get a glimpse of what the base and town looked like. He learned enough German while there, that when he would get really mad at me as a kid, he'd yell at me in German! Thanks again, Tim
Thanks for this. Can't say I remember any of these sites from our stay there from 1955-1958 when my father, a Navy commander, was working with the military assistance/advisory group. I do remember much of our time there like seeing Bridge on the River Kwai in the Army base theatre. Kindergarten and first and second grades in the school for US military dependents. Am returning to Bremerhaven in May.
Thanks for your service Chief. I was selected for CTOC and initiated in 82. CWO4, USN, Ret, 73=95.
Dave, thanks for the video. Stationed there from 68 through 70. This brought back many memories. I looked at another video of Bremerhaven today and realized it has changed so much.
Hi. We were there much earlier, 1955 to 1958, but I'd like to know what Bremerhaven video did you see? Thanks
Thanks again David. That sure brings back memories '63-'66. I notice lots of Volkswagens. I paid $35 for my first one when I arrived in Bremerhaven, and $150 for the second one :-), but I was only earning $235 a month as an E4. Wow have times changed. Were you in the Army, Air Force, or Navy? Best wishes and thanks again.
Wow Dave this did bring back memories. I was stationed in Bremerhaven "63-'66. My wife and I went back to Bremerhaven in 2014. It had changed so much I needed a GPS to find my way around. All the barracks have been demolished except for the MP barracks just inside the Main Gate. The little Chapel has been turned into a museum. With the exception of a few buildings here and there it's all gone. As far as Bremerhaven is concerned it has grown so much and the traffic is a nightmare.... that could have something to do with my age... at age 21 driving was never a problem :). Thanks for the pictures and best wishes. John Cox
Been there from '61 to '64. Radio City - remember it well.
I just uploaded this video, which starts off in Bremerhaven 1963, and apparently continues with a visit into Holland? Any help identifying the scenes would be appreciated. ua-cam.com/video/-Q5togWub34/v-deo.html
I don't remember the barracks location. I was in NSGA in 1967-69. I am very surprised there is even a page for us. Hope to see pictures of town and maybe even the post. From what I learned it was the 69th trans co. I think our barracks was north quadrangle
Nice pictures from Freiburg where I was living for year in the 70's as my father was a french military there! Thanks a lot for this... If you don't mind I took the opportunity to "capture" some views for my photobooks ;)
Enjoyed the whole set as dad served on the "Happy Jose" in 1964-1965. Also saw that you were in Cyprus ten years after we were ( 1958-1960 ).
Was he in any of the pictures. What was his name?
David Maberry Not in any that I saw. CTMCM Nichols.
How absolutely wonderful. I wish I could be there now xxx
Thank you for this amazing video. I shared it on my Cyprus Culture facebook group page at facebook.com/groups/cyprusculture/

wow, brought tears to my eyes.. The music and memories PRICELESS !!
Thanks David! You've inspired me to make a slide-show and/or video of the photos I took while stationed at NSGA Bremerhaven about 8 years after you were there. What a great duty station! By the way, I served in the Navy and was a CTT-2 in Bravo Section. My barracks building was the one that ran parallel to Wurster Strasse, between the Main Gate and the Chapel.
Nice job on the video, David. Thanks for sharing. I served there 1970-71... and would love to go back.
believe me, you dont want to ..
lets go then, waiting here for you
I am started to add all my slide shows to you tube. So there will be a bunch coming your way.
That's haming it up
