This is where I save some of the video clips of my wanderings around the Peak District and North Derbyshire. This means I don't clog up my storage devices and I can sit in the long cold winter months and remind myself of the better days to come.
Most of the clips are on here for my own benefit but I'm happy if they inspire other motorcyclists to get off the A roads and get exploring those twisty little back lanes.

What year is your T120?
Hi, My bike is a 2016 model. Regards Andy
i have a booster plug on my Thunderbird 1600. works great. engine feels smoother and much better throttle control through very slow corners, roundabouts, or when in traffic. Its different to power commander - thats about getting MORE power (allegedly).
Hi Paul, I eventually went down the Power Commander route. I still have it fitted and its made the throttle response even smoother. Fortunately it doesn’t appear to be an issue on the newer bikes. I rode a 1200 Thruxton a while back and that had a silky smooth throttle response. Regards Andt
What rear sets have you fitted, thanks.
Hi, They are made by Sato Racing, here is the link: www.satoracing.com/rearsetstop.htm Regards Andy
Thanks Andy.
Found some major problems with your UA-cam channel sir.if you want to grow your youtube channel & viral your video.i can help you if you want?
I bought a 2022 last month with 108 miles on the clock. Just hit 700 miles and I gave her an oil change...first service. I also just put some Viking bags on her earlier today. Love the ergonomics, power, torque, and exhaust note. I've had many bikes over the last ten years from Honda to Harley and this is my favorite😎🍻
Glad to hear you’re happy with the bike. Hope that like me, you have many safe and trouble free miles on her. Regards Andy
I used to have a B44 back in the day and it could be a bit of a pain to start, how do you get on with yours?
Hi, If I get everything just right it will fire second kick from cold but more usually third or fourth kick. Once warm it will fire first kick. BSA should have put the oil tank on the opposite side, the oil tank cap gives you a nice bruise on the inside of your thigh after a few stabs on the kickstart. Regards Andy
@@peakbiker 😂😂 That’s why they probably went to oil in the frame on the B50, so many complaints about bruised knees!
I was under the impression that the bikes ecu would learn that the air sensor is not working and compensate for this thus neutralising the BP benefit🤷🏼♂️
Hi, As far as I am aware the unit doesn’t stop the sensor working. It adjusts the signal from it to fool the ecu to make it think the ambient temperature is lower than it actually is and therefore enrich the mixture. The bike is tuned to run lean at low speeds and this alters the mixture to nearer normal and smoother running. Regards Andy
Nice run, but you chose the more direct but boring route past the army firing ranges. If I was going from Leyburn to Reeth I'd go via Redmire and take the road that goes past the Bolton Arms (now called "The Redmire Village Pub" - crappy name) and over the hill, which is the road that joins your route from the left at 11:48. When you said "This isn't Reeth" (13:15) you were at Grinton, a lovely village in its own right, where I've never failed to see Kingfishers from the bridge.
Do you still recommend those panniers? I fitted a set to my T120, and they don’t have wobble around. Like they’re attached with springs. I haven’t enjoyed them.
Hi, I haven’t had any issues with the panniers. Once locked in position they’re as solid as a rock and there’s no movement whatsoever. Regards Andy
got a link for the brakes and discs...cheers
Hi, Here’s the link www.freespiritsparts.com/en/product/bolt-in-upgrade-braking-kit-for-triumph-bonneville-t120-4p-calipers-rotors-diam-340-mm-kit/ Regards Andy
On top of replacing the OEM silencers with the Norman Hydes Togas, did you also remove the cat converter?? I only ask because I own the same bike as you, and was informed by my mechanic that "you can do one or the other, not both, if you open up the breathing by going with an aftermarket silencer like the British Customs sleepers (US) or the Norman Hyde togas, it will sound better and run a bit faster, but you cannot also do the x-cat (remove the cat con) because it will be way too loud (think obnoxious Harley loud) and it will run terrible, you need some back pressure for it to run smoothly and efficiently. If you replace the cat con with the X-cat, then just leave the factory peashooters on." Any advice or recommendations or insight would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
Hi, I removed the cat and fitted an X pipe first, then later I fitted the togas and a K&N air filter. My bike was always a bit lumpy running at low speeds and I so I eventually fitted a Power Commander and had the bike tuned on a dyno. Even before fitting the Power Commander the bike was running fine and this was confirmed because I had the tuning checked. So, I can only say that fitting an X pipe and the togas didn’t cause me any problems and my friends tell me the bike sounds great but not annoyingly noisy. Regards Andy
@@peakbiker thank you for your reply and insight. Cheers
Did you consider braided hoses?
Hi, No, I didn’t feel they were necessary as the original hoses are quite rigid unlike the older style hoses that used to appear rubbery. Regards Andy
Had a speed twin 900 for 3 years, wanted a change bought one of these, so much lighter, wants to be used quite hard, likes the revs. Had mine 9 months now, it's very addictive, handles great, rear shock is a bit crap on the rough stuff, but overall, it's light zippy character won me over. 👍
Hi, I agree, I borrowed one of the newer 1050 speed triples a few years ago and I thought it was a brilliant bike, but when I rode a 765 street triple a couple of years later I was amazed at the similarities between the bikes. The smaller lighter and more agile street triple didn’t seem to be a great deal slower than the bigger bike. It accelerated well enough and was plenty fast enough on the road, it just seemed to be a lighter more manageable clone. The trident isn’t a great deal different from the street triple, obviously it’s got a smaller engine and doesn’t have all the trick bits but it’s just as much fun to ride. Regards Andy
missing your peak district vlogs this year
Thanks for the ride. I WANT ONE. I've got my eye on a red 2023 Triumph Speed twin 900 Chrome Edition.
My Trident has the same issue when starting up sometimes! Sounds like it’s starting and then just cuts out! Have you found out any reason why? I asked Triumph to look into it but they couldn’t find any faults…
Hi Sam, I only borrowed the bike for the day and it was only awkward to start once while I was on it. The first bike I borrowed a couple of years ago was fine. I must admit, I was a bit worried when it kept cutting out. I had about 3 or 4 attempts until I managed to catch it just right and keep it running. It was also embarrassing, as I had an audience admiring the bike. Regards Andy
There's a recall for stalling tridents, ring a dealer and see if yours is in the vin range
Funny you have said some of the same things I felt when I was riding my bike home for the first time from new. I thought I had made a big mistake putting down 7495 pounds for this bike. The bike felt rough, not smooth a bit buzzy. The gear change was very vague no feeling of changing gear. Had to look down at the instrument to see if I had indeed changed gear. But it improved as I was getting home. Compared to my MT-07 It was not a good thing. Leant forward towards the bar a little more. The good thing though was the mirrors, better than the MT-07 and the general feel of the switch gears. One thing I will say which is different to you, is the indicators they fell naturally with good feel. Funny enough the bike you are riding is the same colour way as mine. Now roughly with just over 400 miles on the clock, still running it in the gear change feels more better, but I noticed that on 2 occasions on a cold start after leaving the bike for several days there is the cam chain rattle, which is quite loud at start up but last for a couple of seconds. I will bring that up on its first Service.
Hi Derek, I have recently ridden the Trident again. I have altered my assessment of the bike, trying to look at it in an unbiased way. It is my latest posting on my channel. Regards Andy
That was really cool! Thanks for posting this. ❤from🇺🇸
Brakes are great.Quick Shifter is amazing upgrade on this bike & is heaps of fun.I ride with Triumph Twins & big block Harley Davidsons & ride it right using Quick Shifter keep up easily & once in mid-high revs actually faster than the Harley boy's 😁 haven't ridden with a modern T100-120 just 790-865 older models.Low down at intersections the big bikes have you but once got revs up & with Quick Shifter your moving.Rev it out to 7000rpm in every gear 2nd & above you're flying & redline is 10500rpm so can go even faster & 7000rpm have you up with the big boy's with plenty left. The seat is very plush too & riding position is very comfortable.I've put Evotech Tail tidy,Radiator guard, frame sliders, bobbins & got a colour coded Ermax Nose fairing on the way in mail which makes bike look awesome.
I also got fender Extenders & Speed Angels dash screen protector anti glare sticker to protect it from UV & scratches. I had a bad motorbike accident & broke both ankles & needed a light bike to get back on the saddle.Pushing a heavy bike around the shed & into Motorcycle chock where I park bikes needed light bike & left ankle is worse so Quick Shifter is great when ankle gets saw although I use clutch 85% of the time.I love it & like the busy gear changes but you can ride it lazy it will do 50kmh in 6th but I don't 60kmh is about as low I go in 6th.I highly recommend it especially if want to downsize it only weighs 189kg wet that's why it carries speed into corners & big bikes get in the way but they have more torque on way out but slow fast due to their weight.Triple has great torque delivery too.I see there is a Daytona 660 might be coming out but spy shots show it with high bars not clip on's so be interesting to see what it's like once released. The Tiger 🐅 660 is also a great bike with larger tanker but is 17kg heavier & tall seat.
This helps my decision, ive got to do something, im grinding my gear shifter and my brake pedal 🤔
I have a speed twin , each time it is serviced the loan bike has been a t 120 and I have really enjoyed riding it , I think it’s my next bike 👍
De cat you bike makes a real difference
I did the same ride on Friday, ending up in Glossop then home via snake pass
Hi, Did you manage to ride down traffic free? It really is a nice run down to Bradwell when the roads empty. Regards Andy
@@peakbiker pretty much, although temporary traffic lights at Baslow were pretty bad. Had to do some filtering there
Greeting from across the pond! I did the belt drive conversion on my 2018 T120 with the identical brand that you used. Conventional wisdom says that chain drive actually puts a bit more power to the pavement than belt drive. I didn't notice too much loss of power while riding solo but where I really noticed power loss with the belt drive was when I had a passenger. Any thoughts?
Hi, I’ve probably done exactly what you have done and had a look on the internet. From what I can see you can expect a transmission loss of between 9 & 15%, but I can’t see anything that says that the loss increases under additional load. So, sorry I can’t help you find an answer to the problem. Regards Andy
@@peakbiker Ok, Wow 9-15% is pretty substantial. If I had know that, I may not have done the conversion. I wonder how accurate those numbers are? Thanks
Did you have any excessive free play on the floating discs. Thoroughly enjoy your videos by the way 👍👍
Hi Graham, No, I haven’t had any excessive free play on the discs. Regards Andy
@@peakbiker cheers Andy, just seen a couple of videos of this set up and the play on the rotor was a lot. Glad you've had no issues 👍
What’s your thoughts on videos that say there’s a problem with gearbox failures?
Hi Donna, I personally don't know, or have been in contact with anyone who's had a gearbox problem. A couple of years ago the internet seemed to be full of owners complaining about the gear selector. I spoke to the then service manager at my local dealer. A really nice honest and straight talking guy. He told me, that they had only dealt with a couple of gearbox issues, and both had been the result of the bike being dropped and the end of the selector shaft receiving a knock. As for my bike, the gearbox has been fine and I hope it stays so. Regards Andy
@@peakbiker oh that’s great as I’ve decided I want the Triumph T120 in black , but it won’t be for a while as I need to save some of the money 👍🏍
That's a good looking bike. It seems like a keeper, for all of the reasons you mentioned not least of course that you enjoy it. Maybe I'll try a Bonny when it suits me to get a new one. Cheers!
not having to remove both silencers to adjust the chain is enough for me ; who designs a bike that goes into production where you have to remove the exhaust system to adjust the chain tension
I’m 10,000 miles in on my 2019 and averaging 70 miles per gallon but when I tell people they don’t believe it for a 1200 cc bike, mines a keeper, enjoy the riding season, cheers
Hi, Yes, the fuel economy is pretty impressive for a 1200. What baffles me, is that if I ride lazily and just plod about at low revs and don’t use the gears a great deal. The fuel consumption is worse than if I ride more sportily and let it rev a bit and constantly use the gears. It certainly is a torquey flexible engine but mine likes to rev a bit rather than plod about. Regards Andy
Look great but Triumph got the design of that tank bag wrong, they should give you compensation if there is rub marks on your tank.
Beautiful countryside with nice roads for bike riding. I live in the desert . Hot and dry.
You made a lot of upgrades to this bike. Any way to get rid of the ugly kneepads on the tank?
Hi, The knee pads are firmly stuck on. There might be a way of teasing them off, but I wouldn’t risk damaging the paintwork. Regards Andy
Which handlebar model did you get? They have a 32” and 28.5”? Looking to get some for my 16 T120 Black!
Hi, I fitted the 32” bars. Regards Andy
Skip ten mins couldn’t watch that spilt screen
I like the tank bag is it waterproof, really enjoyed the video thanks
Hi, Unfortunately it isn’t waterproof. It’ ok in light showers. In true Triumph fashion, they sell a waterproof cover for it separately. Regards Andy
It's a pity that helmet and panniers don't do any justice to the Bonneville.
She don’t look seven years old ,I been riding 50yrs iv had so many bikes I can’t remember.just sold my one year old 1250gs ,just got back from Triumph dealer sat on a new T120 fell in love can’t wait till Monday for the test ride, really enjoy your videos iv subscribed thanks mate 👍
Hi, I hope the weathers fine for your test ride. When I first rode a T120 I didn’t think I was going to like it after riding bigger bulkier bikes, but it reminded me of my early years riding the old Triumph twins. The smaller size and relative lightness compared to other modern bikes I have ridden was like a breath of fresh air. I’ll be surprised if you don’t like it. Regards Andy
@@peakbiker funny you say that I remember the first time I sat on a bike age 10 a bantam iv never had that feel since I had that feeling again today I’ll let you know how it goes goes
Brilliant video got a test ride Monday I sat on one today it’s like it was made for me ,thanks for sharing mate 👍
i couldn,t take my bike of the road in winter going 5/6 months without a ride would drive me crackers. nice to see you out again, looking forward to your ride outs this year.
Ey up Welcome back, here’s to another summer’s riding
i took my T120 out today as well lidls are selling GT85 for 2.49 for a large can
A good bike is well worth keeping hold of if it suits your riding style. I purchased a Honda VFR 1200 crosstourer new in 2018 and it’s now covered 19,400 miles and it’s definitely a keeper. It’s nice to see you back out and riding those great roads, and the scenery is just beautiful 👍🏻
Yes, it is a great bike, obviously! It is sort of a waste to trade a motorcycle after 2 or 3 years, just after one has got to know it thoroughly and after investing many times a respectable sum of money to all the extras...
Fuel economy? MPG....? A good all round review. Just shows that the if you look after the machine, it'll stay pristine!
I purchased my 2022 T120 a few days ago in San Antoino Texas. I had to ride it home to West Texas about 250 miles. I rode in the city, on I10 interstate highway at 80 mph speed limit, I did over 100 mph passing some big riggs for short burst. The last 80 miles was hills and twisties on back country roads. But on this portion, I pick up 35 to 50 mph cross winds. Those winds sucked ass especially with big rig going the other way passed me. I had to put gas in the bike 37 miles from home. I guess I got crappy gas mileage from the interstate highway riding. I purchased this bike because I had a 1982 Honda CB900C custom from 1983 to 1998 and loved that bike and wanted a bike that sat and rode like it. The T120 is the closest bike I could find that rides like the Honda from 1982. I love this bike and will be keeping it. I had to sell the Honda due to having to move overseas in the military. I was USAF from 1984 to 2007 active duty, retired.
Hi, I hope you get as much enjoyment from owning your T120 as I do from my bike. I know what you mean about side winds. I used to own a BMW GS1150 many years ago and it was really hard work trying to keep in the lane of the motorway. It was sitting on top of a sail, it caught all the wind. Safe riding, Andy
There is a digital rev counter in the panel in the speedo. It is one of the toggle thru menu items.
Really appreciate this info, I made myself the angle spaners with cheap Chinese jobs. Cut and welded. With the combination of these and standard spinners job was done very easy. Thanks heaps
Good news for you they've actually changed the name to a 900 speed twin 😂
Love the bike and the area you ride.
I just recently had a muffler shop do a cat delete & crosspipe install on my 2022 Bonneville T120. Living in California, it was a lengthy process from ordering the pipe from a source that would deliver to Calif to finding a shop that was willing to do the work. Emissions laws in California are STRICT !! That being said, I didn't ask the mechanics if they tuned the bike for the modification. What I understand is that the bike's ECU does it automatically, or . . . am I mistaken ??
Hi Marek, The general advice is to start the engine and do not touch the throttle. Let the bike tick over until the cooling fan kicks in, then go for a gentle ride around. Apparently this allows the ECU to adjust itself to the new set up and everything should be fine. Regards Andy
