Finally getting around to reading the book right now. It isn't a writing masterpiece, but oh my goodness, the stories this amazing man has to tell! I was hooked by the third sentence. The book is vulnerable and really dives into the delusions we have about the natural world and wildlife around us and our fascination and desire to control those aspects. It's a great read so far, can't put it down.

People, please read his book "Beyond the surface" - it is amazing and it tells so much more than blackfish. Don't get me wrong, blackfish was very, very good, but in the book you get so much information about the orca's, their characters and how they love in their natural habit. It is available in aidiobook form, too. Just go to Amazon or use audioable. And to get this straight : I don't know John, I am from Europe and I finished the book 2 days ago. I am writing this because I want to and I really hope he will write more of them. My respect for this man is very, very high. He fought pain medication with opioids and I know that fight. I saw these big macho men crying like babies when they didn't have their medication and John got it. He has so many injuries, I wonder how he can live with them without that pills. 2) to leave the whales he loved to much and spoke out shows a strong character. I hope we will hear more from him. I only just watched Blackfish recently. It's so important to keep spreading the message that whales do not belong in captivity.

Now, during our current state of pandemonium, Watching as many videos about Physeter Macro has reinforce some of the most important values: Being good to my mother. Taking care of my family. And learning from my grandparents experiences. More importantly, the importance of raising my daughter up to be the a thick-skinned woman who will have to one day, be the one to retrieve the squid from the deep sea of life, and in turn, teach her own children. I just pray I get to be there to wait at the top with her children, my own grandchildren and great grands. To teach them through my own experiences. And that is life. To some, that seems miniscule. To me, that's the beauty. To continue to instill values and principles so that it is consistently exercise into this world generation after generation. Especially if the values or principles center around goodness. Why? Good people are the only thing that changes the world. It's the only thing that ever did. And generations of good people, means generations of good people changing the world. Thank you.

Just found this in 2019...why did ya end talking about this? Why is sea world still existing? Pls do not stop talking about this! Bring this subject back to life...since it is still going on just now! Pls go on telling people...don t let this lose it s voice....the whales are still suffering....

O'barry has also been accused of mistreating two dolphins who lived at the Sugarloaf Dolphin Sanctuary while rehabbing them for life in the wild them into the wild. He also violated the Marine Mammal Protections Act. The dolphins were named Luther and Buck. They were food deprived and forced to be wild. Then in 1996, Ric O'barry took them on a boat out to sea and threw those dolphins overboard. Luther was found 4 days later approaching boats and jetskis, begging for food, had a plastic bag in his dorsal fin, had infected lacerations, had a hole in his dorsal fin, and had a bruised belly. Buck was also malnourished, had infected lacerations, and had a hole in his dorsal fin. Buck was taken to the Dolphin Research Center where he died a couple of years later. The sanctuary was found, "Indefensible" and releasing the dolphins was described as, "improper and inhumane".
