You Are NOT Passionate About Playing Video Games.
I've played Video Games and specifically MMORPGs for over 20 years.
That's enough time to realize I've been manipulated into thinking it's "just a hobby" or worse: a passion.
Time to get back to reality, to be free and conscious.
There's a high chance that if you listen to this video while being addicted to playing video games, you'd take it personally and I get it. Please focus on the concepts and ideas in my speech rather than it being about your own ego.
Trust me, I know how games are so interesting, immersive, impressive, enjoyable and so much more I can't even express into words.
But all of it is an illusion.
I'm ready for the comments that will say that "Video games have helped me during tough times". It's not because a destructive activity has helped you stay focused during a tough time in real life that it becomes less destructive.
There are plenty of constructive activities. Not even necessary productive, just constructive instead of destructive.
I hope you will see it's not to judge but to help.
Sincerely,
Asty'

      {target(mention)} will mention the first user you mentioned in the command's arguments. The {target} object holds information about the first mentioned user, and then you can access properties from that mentioned user, such as {target(name)}, {target(mention)} and so on. Hope it helps :)

    Just because you are or were addicted, doesn't mean everyone is. Why would I not be passionate about damaging monsters in a video game? It's not particularly than hitting a ball in a sport. While it's true that a lot of live games have features to increase player retention (i.e. make them play more) and that among those, MMO in particular have a higher chance to cause problematic playing behaviour, that doesn't mean that everyone playing them has problems. The intent of the company being to make money doesn't have much to do with it. That goes for all entertainment industries. Some are just more scummy about it than others.

    • @Asty__
      @Asty__ Рік тому

      I don't think I've said or meant that everyone is addicted to video games. The emphasis is about the fact that these games (especially MMORPGs) specifically don't care about the well-being about their players by the very nature of it. The only purpose is for them to play more, spend more, do less things in their real life, and other similar things. The downside with feeling passionate about playing video games is that as a player you think it's a passion but if that's the case then you are not conscious that what you're doing doesn't want you any good at all; and it's even the contrary. The worse you do and become for your real life, the better the creators will be. That's not a sane universe at all. My point is the contrast between an activity that is constructive and one that is destructive by essence or by intention; which doesn't go for all entertainment industries like you mentioned. There is nothing wrong with willing to make money as a company. What can be wrong however is the intention and ethics behind how they do. I don't believe a company that edits self-development books (for example) is inherently destructive.

    Im attempting to create boss logs so far this put me on the right track but Im failing at the first step since in discord it just shows (description) instead of linking into the variable Im more familiar with python which is pretty different Nvm Ive figured it out so far, currently Im trying to figure out how to get Carl to use custom emojis from my server so that the title will display as ":emoji: (boss name) has been killed :emoji:" since he only seems to work with default emojis. After that I still have to figure out how to get him to post an additional embed message in a different channel on a set timer from when the command was used

    I know for sure that when or if i ever have children of my own, videogames are going to be heavily restricted. My life's been tough and growing up with ill and irresponsible parents led me to sitting in front of my tv screen playing games for hours, litterally destroying my posture, something i've been battling against since i turned 15. Altough i have a love hate relationship with videogames, i'll have to say that the games i've played have hindered me from just ending my life countless times and that i'm greatful for. And that's also why i almost exclusively play old ps2 games because those games have an ending or doesen't take more than max 10 hours to finnish compared to gow or rdr. After completing a game, the game leaves my mind and i enter back into the real world. That in itself can sometimes be theraputic. I do agree with what you are saying but there are circumstances, conditions and reasons in life. I know that if the videogames wasn't there when i was needing them the most, i would definently not be here and i'll gladly "waste" 5 years on games if it ensures that i'll still be here 20 years later.

    I think this is a good video for a lot of people who do struggle with video game addiction but what your missing is the art of not only the creation but the skill of video games as well as what it inspires like if video games are bad aren't books? Art? Sports? Where do we draw the line? Anything can be an addiction something that can inspire and develop into fictional worlds and ideas is a beautiful thing

      As far as I'm aware books don't have features that are designed specifically for the reader to sink time, energy and attention beyond the time needed to read the full book. In the video description, I state the difference between constructive and destructive activities. Reading books is not a destructive activity whereas playing MMORPGs is. And if you still consider it is not in itself, then we can definitely agree on the fact that they are *designed* to be destructive for the consumer. Also, sports are real and have actual values bound to them. Workout and strength training usually are accompanied by better nutrition and a sane lifetstyle that goes around it; which is the entire opposite when a game is designed for you to keep being in it while forgetting about your real life. I could mention many more things, but I'm trying to respond effectively in a relatively short manner. Hope you have a great day ahead, and I'm happy you liked the video.

    Good video. You do have a point here. Video games often have these skinner box designs: click the button, get the reward, feel the dopamine. It can lead to people mindlessly clicking just to feel good. In the end they wittle their days away doing nothing productive. That's not passion! I often fall into the skinner box trap myself scrolling through reddit and youtube for hours at a time, but at least i'm honest that's a problem and don't say i'm passionate. I agree if you're in denial about it by covering it up with "i'm passionate" while it negativly impacts your life it's a problem. I wouldn't say though that "im passionate" is **only** used as an excuse. Playing video games and scrolling through reddit and youtube feel different to me: video games are activly fun. Reddit and UA-cam are automated monkey brain satisfaction. I want to stop watching youtube and reddit as much as I do as it's distracting. Wheras I can stop playing a video game the moment it's boring to me. The key is just to be consious of if you're activly having fun. If you're getting bored, you need the self-control to let that bordom drive you to something else. For example, i've put thousands of hours into OldSchool Runescape as well as thousands of hours playing other games. I'd definetly say I have a passion for them. I'm also paying a mortgage on a house, have a job with a lot of career progresion, and am training for a charity hike in a few months. The key is that when I get bored I stop playing.

      About Video Games or about playing Video Games? Those are 2 different things. The former may involve everything that goes around Video Games, from its conception to its deep understanding and analysis. The latter is not a passion. I'm not sure why you're talking about recreation here, as Video Games are much different from any other recreational activity because of what I state in the video. I was ready for this type of discourse and it's okay. If you haven't already, I encourage you to read what I typed in the video description. On that note, I hope you have a great day ahead.

      make sure you have selected the welcome channel (or whatever channel you want them to see first after joining) but that's in the video so that should be good. in your server settings go to 'widget' and select the channel you want to generate your invitationlink (so that's the channel they will see first). and the last thing you should check is the settings for that specific channel. so e.g. right click on the welcome channel for channel settings and 'permission'. go to advanced permissions, you'll see the everyone role and if you can't see the carl bot role there, select it yourself with the small + sign. select the bot than and give him permissions to 'view channel' & 'send messages'. so now it should work if someone joins the bot is able to send the message. i hope that helps somehow! Just learned all of that since yesterday lmao, got these problems many times

    • @Asty__
      @Asty__ 2 роки тому

      These are syntax errors as far as I can see. For example, the error message says that {user{mention}} is invalid, as the word "mention" is a parameter of user, and therefore should be enclosed with parentheses as opposed to curly braces. Be careful about how you typed {user} too; from the error, I'm not sure if you closed it with "}" or not. If you still get an error after trying to fix that, I advise that you join the support server (link in the description of the video and on the carl.gg website), and ask your question with a screenshot of your welcome message's content, in #welcome-logging. Hope that's helpful. Good luck :)
