When people mold head sculpts , why do they cover the hole under the head?
@@elpapajon3622 it will fill with silicone. That you will have to remove so it's easier to cover
Cool tittybats shirt.
Does this work without a pressure pot? Or is it mandatory?
You can totally still do it. The pressure pot it's just going to pop micro bubbles. Just know that later on if you get a pressure pot, that unpressurized mold isn't good for resin cast under pressure. It will give you bad casts with the resin being pushed into those micro bubble holes.
Noob here, so I apologize if these questions are dumb. Is liquid plastic the same or similar to resin? Also, does the mould need to be kept in a sealed container or anything when storing after use?
No dumb questions. Liquid plastic is resin absolutely. And on the mold question the only reason to store in a sealed container is dust and it could just be wiped off. I store mine on a shelf in the garage with no container. And had no problems.
@@flanagancreations1673 hi I just wanted to let you know, thanks to your video and help, that I was successfully able to make moulds for figurines I needed duplicates of! Thanks so much!!
Can you tell me what resin you use?? Mine is always so thick. Ty!
I use smooth cast 325 from Reynolds. The whole smooth cast line is great.
It comes in different cure times from extremely fast (minutes) to hours curetime. I understand budget and convenience, people will get resin from Michaels or hobby lobby but it's not great product.
@@flanagancreations1673 yeah. It doesn’t pay to get cheap. End up wasting a lot. Ty!
Llllllll
But if youre doing something wrong is not better to take the advice and try to improve?
Great video thats very informative. I appreciate it.
Is it better to have large chunks of reused silicone or to chop it up as gravel-like as possible?
I like using bigger pieces personally. But really up to you. Bigger pieces I can plan where they are inside the mold.
Do you sell your figures ?
I use to. Been venturing back into creating so may start again.
I bought a ton of little silicone molds for random projects, how can I figure out what type of silicone they are made of to be able to do this?
Not sure on this. Where did you get them?
Mostly amazon. They are pink if that makes a difference. ;) 😊

Hey man. Really liked your videos. You gonna make more or are ya done?
Really happy you enjoy them. I may make more videos but not sure on subject matter. Do you think more resin tutorials would be useful?
@@flanagancreations1673 I like your sculpting style and seeing how you cast them would be icing on the cake. Loved the clear casts with bones inside that you did.
How did you get the matte finish? I'm looking to get a non-shiny finish but can't find any info on how to?
That seems like a lot of work. If the creature fit in the cup can't you just use the cup? Why would you need to do all that extra stuff with the glue and then trying to pull it apart? Not throwing shade the real question😊
Thank you so much!
What material is the original sculpture made from? I once tried to mold something made with clay and it reacted with the silicone and ruined the original
This was a super sculpey (polymer clay) sculpt.
Okay here is my goal. Take a fan art digital sculpt. 3D print parts in photopolymer resin. Post process and make molds. Then cast in polystone. I would like to create about 30 garage statue kits this way. Doable?
Totally doable. 3D print resin has to be molded with tin cure silicone because of cure inhibition.
Nice to see a video of someone who isn’t using pressure pot / vacuum ! Really puts me off having a go with resin / silicone as im just worried it’ll look trash with no step to de-gas the liquid
Would it ruin the mold to try to cast it in concrete?
Do you have to wash the silicone pieces before you put them in? I've struggled with the silicone not fusing, if it's not clean enough
This was a great comment. Had this problem before too if there's any kind of dust on the silicone. So I always make sure they're clean now
Great, thanks.
Thanks for this.. what kind of clay did you use?
Any thing sulfur free works.
Thank you I loved your video. Shows me exactly what I need to do, to make my own mold. No wasted time to get to the point. Perfect video.. thank you :)
Great stuff!
awesome guide man, thanks!
Glad you liked it, been so busy but may do some more videos in the future.
sillicone R18?
Is this something you sculpted or 3d printed or was this just an existing toy you made a mold and casting of?
It was digital designed by a fellow artist and 3d printed by me. Then I molded it
👍👋
What kind of paint do you generally use for the resin? Salute
love your e. "honda" figure lol
Which Paint u use?
great video, thank you!
Very informative. Thank you
Thank you so much for making this video 🙂
Respectable How to make silicone mold of a stuffed or plush toy. The point is, how to strenghten the hairs on the toy so that they don't stick together when filling. 🙃 Some spray or something that is compatibile with liquid silicone.
Brilliant! Very well done. I’m a geologist and I always wanted to cast some of the fossils and shells I have. This is a perfect step by step guide. Thanks! 👍🏼
Hope it was helpful
So plastic cup is good? And the base can be cardboard?
Yeap. Plastic cup, cardboard base works perfect
As a beginner I'm wondering if you essentially ruin or jack up the original item you placed hot glue on to adhere to the paper base? Or does hot glue come off easily when it's dry? Also, why the zig zag cut when cutting our the original piece from the fresh mold?
It shouldn't ruin the item. If you're worried you can use double sided tape or anything else you like. The goal is to not have the original sculpture float or move at all, so securing it is essential. The jagged cut is so that the mold fits together in only a single orientation. If it's smooth you might have slipping occur during curing which would ruin your model. Think like a puzzle with only two pieces, you want them to fit as snug as possible.
Thank you so much for this tip! you really helped out with this specific problem i've had and i'm happy i came across you! thanks again <3
Glad it was helpful. I plan on making more videos soon.
@@flanagancreations1673 omg yes! please do! dang it's been a while since you last uploaded :o. i'd love for you to post some of your projects, some what not to do's, cool tricks and stuff in general! excited to see your future videos! :D
How big Like a bull dog
Excellent tutorial! Going to try substituting the extremely expensive moldstar for some other materials
What kind of resins will be crystal clear and stretchy?
Why are you adding pigment to B before pairing A & B together? Is there a reason besides "working for you"? (No judgement there. I can't count the number of times I've said just that to people I'm giving sewing lessons to. "It's probably not the "right" way but it's what works for me.")
The reason i do it is that i use a 15 minute cure resin. So to add A and B plus pigment all at once its hard to get the color evenly mixed.
