I release videos of the scratch-built projects I do. I make model railroad locomotives (usually HO scale) and other things. I show updates of my layout and I do some videos called "Interesting Finds" about awesome things I've discovered that I think you might like too.
I can build a locomotive for you too. Check out my support page at patreon.com/NathanDelayyoutube for the details.

@@nathandelay what was it I've never seen anything like it
@@chiefbrokenbrain if you’re talking about the train that engine is called a GG1 and it was built the 30s all the way to the 80s. This is the last running GG1 video the last time anyone has driven or seen a GG1 but they can’t run anymore because of asbestos and other hazard materials they are museums some have survived I hope I answer it probably if have not. let me know.
@@nathandelay cool I learn something everyday🚂🚂
nice vid on trains thanks lee
Nice
really cool
Very cool. Where is this?
This is in Harrisburg by the Harrisburg train station the GG1 is there for a display at the station only but this was in 2014 because they’re maintaining the track and had to be moved and put back where it is now but I didn’t record this, but I have been to the Amtrak station before and I’m going to on August 1-6 from Harrisburg to Pittsburgh and back
@@nathandelay Thanks!
Cool vintage GG-1 action.
😎👍
Cool! 😎👍
I'm no expert but from what I've been told with todays advancements you could completely gut the electric engines and retrofit smaller more power motors to them. The biggest problem which has already been stated in the comments is that nearly every remaining GG1 has structural issues making it highly unlikely one would ever be safe enough on the rails. You would have to build a brand new updated GG1 for this to ever happen.
I am proud to say that I own a model of this very locomotive in its 20th anniversary livery
My understanding is it's not the asbestos, but the PCBs in the transformer that is the problem. PCB is extremely toxic and nearly impossible (ie. extremely expensive) to dispose of basically making the surviving units untouchable. If it wasn't for the toxic transformer it would indeed be a simple matter of swapping out the electrics. The second issue is the GG1s were run hard. They were literally run until their backs broke. Most if not all the surviving units have cracked frames.
And to be fair my memory of the transformers may be a misremembering. I just looked again and there is a sentence (without citation) in the wiki article that states the transformers were removed from the survivors. A year old reddit post seems to back this up. Even so repowering with the existing motors would still be a considerable undertaking.
So cool
For me, just seeing one run would be so cool. Somewhere in this world, there may be someone with enough money and time to do that, Nathan. Cool idea!! You have an Awesome Day!!😊👍
The problem is it is too expensive to convert the GG1 to the current, power that is supplied.
I LIKE THE IDEA,, but see if anyone takes one the task.. you might have to tell them you will be the boss for doing such a job.. see if they give ya a crew
Cool catch! Is that an SD40-2?
Yes
good vid
People at RBMN do a great job.
Cool, Nathan. . 😎👍🏼
