New Frontiers in Obesity Research [BAM15 and TSLP Cytokines]
This video discusses current research in pharmaceuticals to treat obesity. Importantly, we discuss the difference between fat loss and weight loss, and two pharmaceutical research areas: BAM15 and TSLP Cytokines.
Obesity is a complex health issue that affects millions of people around the world, and occurs when an individual has an excess of fat at the cellular level. Diet and exercise are often not enough to reverse obesity; many factors such as genetics, hormone levels, comorbidities, and much more contribute to an individual developing obesity. Obesity can lead to additional health conditions including diabetes, cardiovascular issues, and some cancers. However, research has been making strides in developing treatments that target obesity more effectively. In treating this condition, it's essential to distinguish between fat loss, which involves specifically reducing the percentage of fat in your body, and weight loss, which can result from losing muscle mass or water weight, not just fat.
One promising pharmaceutical under research is BAM15, a compound that has shown potential in increasing metabolism and promoting fat loss by targeting specific pathways in the body. BAM15 offers a more targeted approach to combating obesity by directly influencing metabolism. Another exciting avenue of research is the study of TSLP Cytokines, which may play an unexpected role in the regulation of fat in the body. Understanding how these cytokines impact weight regulation could lead to new pharmaceutical interventions for obesity.
As researchers continue to delve into the complexities of obesity and develop innovative treatments, the future looks promising for new drug candidates. It will be exciting to see what the future for these two areas of research holds in store for clinical trials and their eventual implementation in medicine.

    so if scientists want to make a breakthrough in feeding people they should just go ahead and invent the startrek replicator so we can replicate food and clothing and other stuff.. why have labs growing food when a startrek replicator would be the way to go. and if you want fake meat i am sure there is a bad sex joke in there somewhere. so they can keep their rice flavored beef and any other fake meat they come up with.

    It's a step in the right direction for food production in space, and on other planets or the moon. Without food production space travel will be forever tethered to Earth. Food that tastes bad and is not adequately nutritious will keep people from joining any colonization efforts. I eat mostly meat and potatoes, but I've tried every commercial meat substitute so I can gauge the progress toward a viable option for food production in space. If this makes it to market I will try it as well, but to be honest I doubt it will be able to compare to hamburger.

    • @MadHeadzOz
      @MadHeadzOz 8 місяців тому

      No wonder you'd eat it. What is "hamburger"? Here it is a type of burger. Meat, salad, between bread. Burger patties are typically made of minced beef. Marketing perversion of languagr has people ignorant of what they are putting in their mouth. They can talk about the similarities all they want. It's the differences that matter. Sht like this disgusts me. The information around it is marketing. You are being sold sht and you eat it. You are what you eat... I'll stick with pasture raised beef thanks. Who knows how that lab made garbage will effect people. There'll be no studies to that effect done. Short or long term effects... companies chasing the dollar and morons obliging without much of a thought in there tiny little brains.

    • @scienceisyou
      @scienceisyou 8 місяців тому

      That is a very insightful comment! Although research into lab-grown foods might seem odd when thinking of just something to put on supermarket shelves, there are potentially far bigger applications, such as space travel. I also find the longer space missions and colonization efforts quite fascinating. Even if this lab-grown food specifically isn't the answer just yet, it is a step in research efforts.

    • @scienceisyou
      @scienceisyou 8 місяців тому

      I can definitely understand - it is indeed a very valid point about the food safety. Although the DNA wasn't directly changed, still a lab-grown meat product is different from the real thing. Many aspects of the environment surrounding the cells can impact their growth. In these early stages of research, it can't really be ruled out if there could be any potentially harmful, unforeseen effects. I personally feel such a food item would be better suited for unique needs, such as space travel or emergency rations, but absolutely thorough research into safety and differences needs to be done first!

    whats the shelf life of this product is what must be answered because grains are good due to their easy storage in relatively dry conditions. I wonder if these will be in an MRE style packing in some foil bag.

      Yeah shelf life... that's what is important... peanut.

    • @CatboyChemicalSociety
      @CatboyChemicalSociety 8 місяців тому

      @@MadHeadzOz its a practical thing to think about because how can you market a grain product if it spoils like unrefrigerated meat.

    • @scienceisyou
      @scienceisyou 8 місяців тому

      That is a very good point! I would imagine the shelf life would be less than that of plain dry rice grains. For sustainability, storage is a very important question. If the product spoils too quickly then there is more waste generated than resources saved. I would imagine a MRE or foil type of application would be best, but perhaps there is a way to dehydrate the beef-rice and extend the shelf life. This is an important question which will need to be tested.

      I agree. Marketing has and is turning many people's brains to an equivalent of excrement. Interestingly I've read that domesticated animals brains shrink. Depending which data source you go with it has been suggested that human brain size is shrinking. It's long been considered to be similar to a muscle in the use it or lose it principle. It seems a trending prediciton that brain shrinkage is more likely than not as technological device usage increases. I'd consider that a logical assumption if not in physical size almost certainly in functionality. I suspect that as a species, we are at a very interesting point in time.

      An interesting point. In efforts to increase our knowledge through research, we must always be careful not to develop things that are harmful or send our society backwards. Greed is a powerful barrier to true progress, and can lead to the spreading of misinformation through manipulative marketing. I feel that research and knowledge itself is neither good nor bad, but what is done with it is the question. We must always be aware of our actions. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the report. Hoping you success with your channel. If I could make an unsolicited suggestion; Check out soothe2 plugin for audio editing. It can algorithmically remove a good bit of thehe reflections ie reverb in your room if you don't have proper acoustic treatment which for most people isn't a convenient thing to invest in at the onset of a channel. It comes with 2 weeks free trial that you can use over and over before buying. There are other plugins that do something similar but this is one of the best imo. Not a big deal but as an audio engineer I'm particuallry neurotic about these things ;). Looking forward to seeing more papers! Subbed.

    Detection?!....How much longer does the world have to suffer till there's a cure?

    • @scienceisyou
      @scienceisyou Рік тому

      A big part of what makes cancer such a devastating disease is that it can go undetected until it is too late to treat effectively with current therapies. For example a person I knew died of colon cancer at a young age because it went undetected until it was in an extremely late stage. The ability to detect and catch cancer early before it spreads is a key part of decreasing death and suffering.

      @@scienceisyou Oh i know, my mother is battling Cancer. On top of that my own health has been deteriorating to the extent that my Doctor has gotten alarmed with my symptoms and asked me to an endoscopy as well some scans in the coming weeks to detect internal damage and tumors(I'm praying like crazy it's not something serious)....sorry, I don't mean to bother you with all this.... it's only to give you an idea of what I'm going through and why I wrote what i did. I agree with ur reply for early detection but I hope you understand my desperation for a cure. If big pharma and medicine can create vaccines in such a short notice and go repeatedly claim on tv that it saved millions from a pandemic with conviction like they have then isn't it fair for me to ask for a cure rather than a new detection method for an illness that has been killing people for ages?.....Dwell on that last part a bit before u judge me for it. Goodbye and sorry if u feel I'm being rude, I'm not.

      Thank you so much for sharing your story! It is no bother nor rude at all, it is a very important discussion. I am very sorry to hear of your mom - sending many prayers for her recovery and your health also!! To be honest, myself and I think many others as well were shocked by how quickly the covid tests and vaccines were developed. I think honestly that it was people getting their act together and, sadly, perhaps also some competition between companies for products that would be high revenue. I'm not saying all scientists are money driven or unethical, by no means. But I do think that efforts could be more collaborative and goal-oriented. I personally feel that science is pushed too much in the direction of publishing papers and not enough focus on making research and findings available and accessible to the public, and not enough on actionable goals for improving clinical work and health, for example. Of course much technology and health knowledge has come from research, even in it's current form, but there is much more that can be done still I feel. Rapid, point of care diagnostics is my personal passion because I have had many friends/family who suffered with current medical procedures or even could not leave the home. But beyond diagnosing of course ideally even at late stages we should be able to fully cure diseases such as cancer. It is my great hope that we will be able to move research in more focused and collaborative directions in the coming years and develop things to truly end much suffering. Wishing you and your family the very best!!! ❤️🙏

    Hi science is you. Love the channel. So what could we do to make adults taller in the future since they have no growth plate? Genetic engineering, stem cells? Etc?

    • @scienceisyou
      @scienceisyou Рік тому

      Hey, very cool question! My understanding is that height is determined in large part by genetics, but other factors such as growth hormones can also play a role. For adults, I haven't yet encountered research on stem cells/gene editing to grow taller. But types of gene editing like CRISPR or reactivating the growth of cell populations in the body I think would be fascinating strategies to explore. Actually though, I recently saw a documentary about a young man who underwent surgery to elongate his legs, successfully! Although quite invasive/intensive of course, with more technological improvements into surgical techniques it could very well be that in the future, such procedures are commonplace. So glad you like the channel! Thanks for the comment! 😃
