We had almost 1,000 mm of rain in about three days. Our house flooded partially as the water just washed down the mountainside, in the kitchen, down the stairs into the lounge and out the front door. Many of the bridges washed away and we were very pleased to be able to skip a day or two of school. The landslides along the mountainsides are visible to this day. Above my grandfather's house a water vein broke out of the mountain, as thick as a man's leg and spouted for a whole day. It was an intensely exciting experience for an 11 year old.
