    I've used a pipe and torch in the past. Never had a problem getting the waist, but always struggled getting the top and bottom. I used the pipe and torch on the waist the used your method using an iron for the top and bottom and it worked out much better.

    Shouldn't you iron the OTHER side? I always learned the outside should be cooler than the inside of the bend...?

    I've seen something similar with a can on top a stove instead of the iron. Brilliant job!!!!.

    These Irons cost £399 here - thats 500 bux - I could buy a whole Stew Mac Bending jig with Silcone blankets for that money - kind of defeats the purpose for me really

      If you buy the newest model and use it only to bend guitar sides, you're completely right!

      Yeah thats true - I kinda watched this and thought all my problems were over where bending wood was concerned - I really cant afford the outlay for a bending mchine a la Stew Mac - I thought great all I need is an Iron - Godamnit nothing is that easy - but hey Its a great way of doing it so good info - cheers @@deepneau3760

    Wow you made that look too easy! Was the curve of the first jig like half of the waist curve or the full curve, im trying to wrap my head around that. Awesome job!!

    • @deepneau3760
      @deepneau3760 Рік тому

      The first form fits into the complete waist section of the second form, with the side in between. So, for the first jig, you mark the curve of the waist, then mark a 3 mm offset (thickness of the side) and that's it.

    Clever. Ive seen this done on 0.6mm veneer, I didn't imagine it for 2mm thick. Two questions. What metal sheet did you use? Any issues with types of wood used? Ive got my form made, but i wont buy a bending iron if clothes iron will work😊

    • @deepneau3760
      @deepneau3760 Рік тому

      The idea was to support the wood with a spring steel sheet, in the video I used a simple metal sheet (0.5 mm) just for a little support, I don't know if it's necessary. -- I had no issues with the mahogany. -- You really need a steam iron with a station/generator (e.g. Philips HI5918/20), I don't know if an ordinary iron will do the job.

      @@deepneau3760 Sorry, it didn’t work for me lol. I also tried steaming using two pots for the wood, but that didn’t quite work. I’m going to just learn how to build a steam box, since I don’t know if anything else will work.

      I think 1.9mm is a good thickness for bending mahogany wood
