Hey guys! My name is Marc and I'm a passionate mountain biker and bike industry guy. I've worked in, and managed several shops including Specialized, Norco, Trek, and Cannondale dealers. I currently ride a 2020 Specialized Stumpjumper Downieville, and a 2016 Trek Stache (although not usually at the same time!).
Join me as I explore mountain bike trails near and far with (usually) my cattle dog, Maverick. Our backyard (literally) trail system is Patapsco Valley State Park outside of Baltimore, but we also love the Frederick watershed, aka "The Shed". When time permits we love to travel to Stokesville to ride the awesome trails of the George Washington National Forest, and our other favorite area is Brevard, NC.
My mission is to provide fun content, with great tips and tricks, along with some laughs. I'll be uploading 2 to 3 videos per month to start, and then, who knows.
Thanks for watching, and stay ROWDY my friends!

MORE Fall Camping Trip at Big Bear West Virginia where the kids tackle Voodoo Rocks and Crack Trail
Переглядів 663 місяці тому
The annual MORE fall camping trip was a blast and held at the usual location, Big Bear West Virginia. Despite the threat of lots of rain, we only had some rain at night and the soil in these woods handles rain with no issues. We rode Voodoo Rocks, Crack Trail, the roadside trail, some of the race loop, Mother of Crack, and Beaver Creek trail. Sooo, so much fun.

Action packed weekend for the Happy Trails crew. We're back at Bryce racing Sunday after Reagan raced the Rally in the Valley on Saturday. Today's race was on Stinger at Bryce Bike Park. I thought I'd race too. Watch and see how we did!

Reagan raced the Rally in the Valley intro to enduro today. They had the full enduro (7 stages), and intro (3 stages). This took place in the Pickall part of Patapsco. Our stages were as follows: Stage 1: Trail 701 Stage 2: Restivus down (TF enduro stage 1) Stage 3: PTF 2020 Section A She was the only U18 female, but hey a win is a win!

Another trip to the ER?! WET Race at the WV Enduro Series season finale at Snowshoe!

I finally entered the WV Enduro series race at Snowshoe. their season finale. The race was great. Until it wasn't! In all honesty I'm left whiplash, a sore leg, and serious disappointment. Through 2 stages I was on the podium, but Fuzzy Fingers ended up getting me. Such a bummer! Oh well, redemption will be sweet!

Mullet not good for climb now im a cheap 29
Try 170 fork. One of the best changes I made to my Evo Pro
Wish I watched this before the race! One of the trickiest parts of run is where the trail bends a few times with little to no berms and sandy, loose over hard. There's a short cut and the camera man says "that's an interesting line I didn't see." 😮
@@xnoitulos right? That was a tricky course, between the pedaling and super tight turns. Definitely kept me on my toes.
Hey man im from baltimore too. About to pickup a 22 jay flight 184bs in a couple of weeks. Just wanted to check in after a year and ask how things are holding up?
@@FSULAUBACH thanks for asking. We’ve done 2 one week vacations with it this year and a handful of other weekend trips. We love it, and haven’t had any quality issues. Enjoy yours!
@@happytrailsmtb8011 that's awesome to hear thank you!! How does your maverick tow it? Pretty seamlessly?
@@FSULAUBACH it’s a lot for the Maverick. Plenty powerful, but the brakes aren’t happy when towing. I’m a little concerned with longevity of engine/transmission, but we’ll see. Generally speaking though, it tows quite well.
@@happytrailsmtb8011 do you have a trailer brake controller installed?
@@FSULAUBACH yes, the factory one. I upped the gain the last time I towed, and may up it a little more next time (in 2 weeks).
What happened to you is what happened to me in Cacapon this year, when I went OTB on Thunderstruck I felt the lightening shoot down my neck and back and that rocked my confidence for the rest of the day. Plus the weather just makes it that much harder to want to jump back into it. Heal up and hopefully see you soon on the trails
@@gregking9032 thanks! I’m already back. Riding the shed tomorrow!
@@happytrailsmtb8011 I was planning on riding there tomorrow morning? What time will you be there?
@@gregking9032 I don’t have any firm plans. Maybe 9. Haven’t even pondered where! I could definitely meet up though.
If you are not strong enough to climb Pisgah with a light bike what makes you think that you are strong enough to safely descend Pisgah with a heavy e-bike without harming yourself and more importantly other trail users.
Taylor swift cmon mate
Great racing out there! Awesome work!!
Marc, are you on Strava? I would like to check out this trail/ride.
@@iradeere5072 yes! Marc Calderone.
Add her commentating to all your videos 😂
Hope you recover soon. That was just grinding in those conditions... not much fun. The trees always win.
Sorry for the late reply. I’m seeing a pt for mild whiplash, but am back on the bike. Yup, trees always win and that place is awesome!
The crowd definitely help big time for me too 🤙🏾. Heck of a run
@@shredderdad6995 hell yeah brother! Always great seeing you.
Congrats! Great riding!
@@rogermuller4967 thank you!
Boy oh boy, this stage will get you warmed up for the day. Great riding.
@@slantedground thanks! I felt really slow, but was only 6 seconds off my pr, so not terrible.
So sorry everyone, can’t get the damn thing to upload in HD.
Hi, i'm living in Japan. And I had bought same one, 2023 Jayco Jayflight 174BH with STX about 2 weeks ago. I am looking for a place to mount my TV. Have you already mounted yours?
@@kunishimatoshio we have not. We bought a movie projector and screen. We mount the screen to the awning. Not theatre quality but fun.

@@happytrailsmtb8011 😂
How much was it?
@@rkashsggeggr6285 about $22k
That’s actually pretty reasonable. Waiting until the fall to grab one so I can get the best deal.
@@rkashsggeggr6285 totally. We’re really happy with the quality too. Newer campers have a shit reputation, but this one has been great. We’ve spent about 18 nights in it so far this year.
@@happytrailsmtb8011 Have you used it in freezing temps yet? Or off grid camping?
@@rkashsggeggr6285 maybe in the mid 30’s, but that’s about it. It was fine. Yes on off grid. I bought a 20 gallon camco portable waste tank to manage the black/gray tanks. I had a Honda 2000 generator, but sold it for a Bluetti battery inverter. It was NOT up to the task, so I now use a Predator 3500 and it easily runs everything including the AC.
That’s a full queen not a short queen. I have the same trailer.
@@CodyStafford-b4f oh wow, thanks. Didn’t know. Still loving our little Jayco!
For your peace of mind, I'm the patroller who responded to the patient, he is going to be ok!
@@NoPlansGarage thanks! It turns out we have friends in Annapolis that know the family well. Scary stuff. Thanks for what you do.
How is it holding up 11 months later?
Great question. I’ve had to replace 1 cage on the derailleur ($125) due to bending it badly in the rocks. Took 5 minutes. The flat top chains are incredibly durable. The original chain still has life left in it. I’d have been through 1 to 2 Eagle chains in that time frame. Otherwise it’s been flawless, and shifts so good.
@@happytrailsmtb8011 Sounds good, thanks!
I need me some pisgha ASAP 🤙🏾
Would you mind posting a link to the route you took?
My Strava cutoff at some point. Let me see what I can share
strava.app.link/lfrH3b5oKKb
The jumps are well-designed and look pretty safe. Good job on the jumps. The rest of the trail seemed the bigger challenge... chonky.
For sure! The 3rd jump on DD almost got me! Next up, the jumps on alba. Maybe this year.
Hell Yeah Dude!!! Full SenD!!! 🍻
Thanks man!!
Hey now you don't need an eeb to go from Windy to the Shed😂 . We went from Windy >Chick-fil-A>boundary line laps!
I gotta go back. Great place to practice!
so a green trail
The trail looks cool, sadly as someone who has had multiple knee surgeries I will not be retuning to the Brevard area until they become less hostile toward ebikes. I can rip the downhills, but my knees won't take the long climbs and with options like Jared's place, Snowshoe, Wind rock, and Bentonville I can't see myself returning until they get with the times. It is sad to see such an awesome place to ride excluding the fastest growing section of the bike industry.
I’m with you! I don’t understand the policies either. Make it make sense, especially with the SL e-bikes that are virtually indistinguishable from regular bikes.
They're proud they've kept ebikes out. They say they don't need/want the usership. But the horses don't make an imprint on the trails... They have explanations, but none of it was convincing.
I agree, I just don’t want to spend my day climbing. I’d rather get more laps in and climbing sucks 😂
Looks like discrimination against senior citizen and people with mobility issues
I'm confused which route you took -- Long Branch to Lower Butter?
I’m not great with Pisgah navigation, but we left the fish hatchery, and rode up gravel singletrack next to the river for a bit, and ended up going up Searcy to Parkay to new butter DH (per Strava, not sure what the actual names are). Some of what we rode was brand new, but it was all new to me.
nice vid :) if you don't mind - what type and how much travel is the bike your daughter riding?
Thank you. It’s a Canyon Neuron. 130 rear, 140 fork. Pretty nice spec, SLX drivetrain, Fox34 rhythm, Fox float, 150mm one up dropper, and Hayes Dominion 4 piston brakes.
Thanks so much. What a great design. No tools.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for providing some awesome footage there!!!
Yeaaaaaah Marc, nice meeting you for 20 seconds at the end of this stage. Your right, these conditions were a lot short of optimal… made it extra; interesting if you will. I also said I was going to just throw my bike out afterwards lol
Great meeting you Blaine! Nice 3rd you got. They made a big deal of the e-bike class, then 1 by 1 none of you stuck around, lol!
@@happytrailsmtb8011 hahaha I had full intentions of actually staying until the awards, but my friends left and I had some stuff going on at home I had to attend to. Didn’t think anybody cared about us battery powered boys 😂
Great run brother 🤙🏾🔥🔥🔥.
I thought that trailer was closer to 4000lbs. What is the tongue weight?
I forgot the numbers and just consulted the Jayco website. 325# “dry” tongue weight. I have the optional 30lb propane bottle, and standard battery too.
Where are the other riders ?
With the enduro format racers go one at a time in 1 minute intervals, so it’s really a race against time!
100%. If GoPro was listening we would have missed all that rad footage :)
Awesome riding!! Congrats to all the girls out there killin' it!! 🙌(So glad the GoPro didnt power off, lol)! 😄😂
Ha, tell me about it!
I’m thinking about registering for the race this weekend. This will be my first enduro race, and at 64 I’ll be in the masters group.
That’s mighty impressive! Have you ridden the trails? A couple of stages are pretty spicy! Like many enduros the climbing is tough too!
@@happytrailsmtb8011 never been there. I’ve ridden plenty of techy descents on my enduro rig, just not at a race pace. I’m mostly thinking about how wet it’s going to be, they’re showing rain 4 days this week.
I had a ST sworks, its a great trail bike , i love it, congrats nice trail , beautyfull bike
I brought the GX Transmission AXS groupset for my SJ Evo which is currently Mechanical GX, I just don't know can I use the existing bottom bracket? Or do I need new spacers or a new BB? I can't find anything about this!
Honestly, I thought transmission came with a BB, but I recently went through my old drive train and my original BB wasn’t there, so I’m thinking they (LBS) installed the new crank on the existing BB
@@happytrailsmtb8011 I think you're right, the kit actually comes with the correct spacers, the BB are identical, it's just the "WIDE" BB comes with differenct spacers, which again come with the groupset crank
Parking: NOT at the Legion please. 1115 Prospect Rd. takes you to the Windy Ridge Trails lot. Glad you enjoyed the jump lines on the back section. There are also jump lines right next to the lot, and lots of good XC you missed throughout. We are working on signage. Most is on Trail Forks. Come on back another time to get much more fun out of the trail system. Glad you liked what you did! Signed, one of the trail liaisons
Thanks for the info. Yup, I made the video because I didn’t see where to park and Waze took me to the legion. I hope this helps spread the word on where you should park. I look forward to going back.
How you liking it now?
Great question. Absolutely love it. Shorter cranks are awesome, and the way it shifts is amazing. Another fascinating thing is the damn chain shows virtually no wear. I have destroyed one derailleur cage, and the new one was $125, but it’s a super simple 3 minute install.
@happytrailsmtb8011 sweet. Might going transmission. Thanks for the insight.
@@XCBen not sure I’d go from AXS to transmission, but the jump from mechanical to transmission is amazing.
@happytrailsmtb8011 that would be the move. Also would be going from Shimano to Sram. Probably more fitting since I was born in Germany.
Looking good out there 🤙🏾
Thanks brother! So much fun out there.
It was nice of you stick around for that guy who crashed in front of you! Crazy you still got third!!!
Thanks, I appreciate it!!
