I was born in 1971 I saw the movie in the 90s and fell in love with it and I'm not big on romance movies. My fiance is 16 years younger than me and never seen this. I'm sure he'll love it being like me.
Challenge: Rank of all Cassevetes best films in order of cultural and artistic impact. For me, #1 Husbands #2 Killing of a Chinese Bookie #3 Woman Under the Influence
It must be true though...the genius of Scots inventors shaped the modern world. I dearly hope Ivor is eventually recognised for his genius....his darkly funny writing captures the stifling conformity of the time, and the last vestiges of the old ways. RIP Ivor, you really made me laugh.
Thanks much for posting. I love Faces, Bookie and Opening Night, but this struck me as less interesting the one time I saw it. Been reading Ray Carney's fascinating book on Cassavetes. Very glad to have the opportunity to see this again in the light of his observations.
Gress Chantal hola yo la compre en walmart mexico muy barata como a 30 pesos no la habia visto pero me gusta comprar peliculas viejas en especial las que fueron nominadas al oscar saludos
Really appreciated this film the first time I saw it in the 1980s on tv and never saw it again until this, its rare to non existent on tv. I like the characters and the unlikely relationship and the closing scene is the prefect ending. A rare classic so thankyou Niall Jordan for putting it on youtube.
Maybe its my imagination, but as a kid I swear I saw a better variety and higher quality of eclectic films on network television in the 70s and early 80s than I do now with cable and streaming.
niall jordan my comment is actually an inside joke for those people that are fans of the character Zelmo. He is the crazy guy Gena Rowlands has lunch with.
Thanks a lot for uploading!! Could u upload "A child is waiting" please! :) i guess the audio out of sync is cause the diferent frame rates betwen audio and video :P
Hi. Thanks for posting this. It's a film worth watching more than once. Did you know that the woman who plays "Seymour's" mother is the actor's real mom? I believe there are other relatives of cast members in the film, too. Thanks again.
Correction from my first entry. Cassavetes' mother played Seymour's mom, and I believe Rowland's father played the minister. No wonder they were cracking up during the ceremony.
Thanks for this. Had it on VHS and it was stolen. Hope karma visits the culprit! 😠 But thanks. Seymour and Gena were great in this and Val Avery as the oafish blind date was hilarious.
+Cynthia Lyman Niall Jordan: Thanks for the laugh: "What are you doing, getting me such big flowers? I don't have a vase big enough for such big flowers!" If you like Casavettes, maybe you'll remember a project where he starred as a man down on his luck who befriends a young orphaned black boy? I'm not sure when it was made, possibly around the remake of Gloria, and I can't recall the title. I just finished re-watching Faces and Husbands, also the much maligned Woman Under the Influence; the man was a genius. Thanks again for the M&M gem. Cynthia
+niall jordan I really like Cassavetes' Tempest hardly any clips of it on youtube. The scene where he conjures up a windstorm is pretty cool. So is Molly Ringwald complaining about having nothing to eat on the island but goat cheese, eggs and spinach.
+niall jordan I'm curious to know what you think of Love Streams, a later work of Casavettes that used John and Gena's real house off of Ventura Blvd. in L.A.'s San Fernando Valley for the main interiors. If you've watched Faces shot in black and white years earlier, you can identify it as the same location. Cassavettes was known for casting the same actors and using genuine houses, locations, etc. for scenes, not only to save money, but to give a sense of realism.
Absolutely an awesome movie, funny thing is, I recently watched the French movie "La Délicatesse", and found out that the basic storyline is quite the same. If you like this movie, you could certainly give it a try, and watch the other, I think you will like it. The modern version has some links in it directly pointing towards the M&M-version, that's really funny. Imo this is a tribute to M&M. They loved the movie, I'm sure about that.
The scene in Minnie and Moskowitz where Cassel walks on his hands and subsequently gets his ass kicked is filmed in the parking lot of The Palamino, a club in L.A. that used to have talent contests. (l know because l came in second place back in 1980 doing a vocal performance. ): just a piece of trivia. Sorry you couldn't find out any additional info about the obscure Cassavette's piece; any chance of uploading a copy of Opening Night if you have it and are able? Glad to meet a fellow fan. He left the world way too soon.
+niall jordan I am actually familiar with that film but have not seen it in years. I've been to Toronto twice and stayed at The Delta Chelsea. Have not been fortunate enough to visit Europe (yet). Thanks for the replies. Have a great holiday season.
Good luck with everything. Hope you're doing well now. Just moved back to Southern California after too many years away and am being blamed for bringing all of the recent wet weather from back east with me. Take care. Still enjoying M&M once again...every now and then I just have to revisit the classics.
Wow I loved Gena in this movie.
I was born in 1971 I saw the movie in the 90s and fell in love with it and I'm not big on romance movies. My fiance is 16 years younger than me and never seen this. I'm sure he'll love it being like me.
This was exhausting. I've never seen so many crazy people roaming free.

My favourite cassavettes movie Cassell and Rowlands are excellent and Tim Carey is a riot as Morgan morgan
It must be true though...the genius of Scots inventors shaped the modern world. I dearly hope Ivor is eventually recognised for his genius....his darkly funny writing captures the stifling conformity of the time, and the last vestiges of the old ways. RIP Ivor, you really made me laugh.

What a great face...and no, I don't mean Casel.....
Thanks much for posting. I love Faces, Bookie and Opening Night, but this struck me as less interesting the one time I saw it. Been reading Ray Carney's fascinating book on Cassavetes. Very glad to have the opportunity to see this again in the light of his observations.

Timothy Carey as Morgan Morgan the weird Welsh-American. He seems to have specialised in odd characters...mesmerising.
Oh , Minnie & Moskowitz, Tender will be the Night ...

thanks niall..
I'm watching this video, why? I don't know but I go on!
niall jordan my comment is actually an inside joke for those people that are fans of the character Zelmo. He is the crazy guy Gena Rowlands has lunch with.
niall jordan yes I am a fan of most John cassavetes films. A Woman Under the Influence was amazing and Gena Rowlands is a great actress.
Great film, miss Burt Lancaster
Thanks for sharing this great film, both Burt & Sarandon show top acting
Lancaster and Visconti are a great combination, too.
Thanks a lot for uploading!! Could u upload "A child is waiting" please! :) i guess the audio out of sync is cause the diferent frame rates betwen audio and video :P
nice one x
favorite movie of all time, hands down.
Where's the first ten minutes of the movie before the credits where Seymour's barhopping?
Loved that response! I will hang loose and try to enjoy it! Thank you for sharing it with us!
Why wasn't the camera held steadily? What made it not easy to do for this person? Unfortunately a better version could not be found.
hahaha, that's Cassavetes style, it's done on purpose
hi niall jordan, i see you are a great fan of john cass. can i ask you a question about him? maybe you can help me. thanks a lot
It was just like that. Very true-to-life.
audio is out of synch...really annoying to watch...
+Tyler Ludowitz ingrate.

+Lynn Metzner And, Rowland's real mother plays Minnie's mom. I'm done correcting myself. I thank you one more time for the post.
yes Cassavetes mum is in the film, his kids are too
Thanks for this. Had it on VHS and it was stolen. Hope karma visits the culprit! 😠 But thanks. Seymour and Gena were great in this and Val Avery as the oafish blind date was hilarious.

A reply l posted appears in the wrong thread; see your comments section in the film to read it. Thanks!
