This new series is fire

A really good presentation by Pastor Brandon! Not an easy task to introduce arguments and evidence for God in service. If I may, just to build off of Brandon's talk, just to steel man his presentation and build off some areas to provide clarification. At the 1:00:00 mark the conclusion of the arguments. Some of the arguments are stated perhaps imprecise. It's easy to misspeak so we allow for much grace to our dear amazing Pastor. The Cosmological argument is actually a family of arguments. Brandon introduced 2. The Contingency Argument "Why is there something rather than nothing" and the Kalam Cosmological argument (Cause of the Universe) Not to nitpick but the First premise in the Kalam is not "Everything has a first cause." because this would lead to problems in the argument that are counterproductive. Namely, What about God? Would God be included in the everything? So, the first premise in the Kalam is "Whatever begins to exist has a cause." That caveat is a conditional so it would speak of everything in spacetime history. That sets up the argument that the universe has a cause, God is the cause, and he is the uncaused first cause. (mouthful) The Teleological argument in its strongest form is about the initial conditions at the Big Bang prior to the laws of physics. It's not about purpose as much is it is about how intelligent life can exist anywhere. The Moral argument is more about objectivity (which Pastor Brandon touched on) and it seems it is divine providence holding leaders like Putin back rather than his stance on ethics. The Moral argument is more about that, there ARE objective moral values and that leads to God being the best or most likely reason for them. The argument from experience is the one in which most of us (including Christians throughout history) know God and know him Personally. He reaches us. He responds to us. Faith seeking understanding as St. Anslem said. God Bless Base Church!
