Cattle Dry Lot Upgrades
Today we upgraded the footing in our steer dry lot and talked about other upgrades such as ritching automatic waterer that will go in this week. Our cattle have access to pasture when the weather permits, but i wanted them to have a dry area year round.

We had a break in the weather so I took advantage of it and did some chores in the cattle barn. While I was at it, I decided to install some of the small working system Arrowquip sent us. it's small, but it will work well!

    I don't know why kubota insists on putting the split brakes where you can't use them with the HST? I've got a 2011 Kioti DK40SE and my barnyard is a clay soil base on a bit of a slope, so the split brakes are very very useful! Or when plowing snow, you can almost pretend you have a skid steer. I guess it was the "deluxe" tractor at the time, and its got all the fancy 3pt stuff you want, plus a lever to raise and lower the 3pt from the back.... Kioti is making the NS series now which is basically the DKSE again, fully featured, heavy, and the loader will lift 2700lbs. If your local dealer is good, have a look at them compared to the similar featured Kubota.

    • @PheasantLaneFarm
      @PheasantLaneFarm День тому

      @iandyck9605 I don't really have a dealer close. JD and Kubota are the main ones. I think the few LS that were here all went out of business. There was a Mahindra but I'd have to see if he's still going. I've watched videos of the Kioti ans they look impressive.

      @@PheasantLaneFarm It is tough to buy a new tractor without a good local dealer. I guess now, with my experience I would buy a lightly used Kioti DKSE without a local dealer, as it is KISS and with the service manual, any independent tractor mechanic could work on it. But with a new tier4 tractor of any color, a local dealer is probably a good idea in case things go sideways. My local Kioti dealer is by far the best for customer service for CUT's, as the big dealers weren't very interested in selling a little tractor and are much further away. You've done a lot with your tractor in any case, any of them are much better than doing everything by hand!

      @t.j.buskirk1255 thank you. It's been a transition going from law enforcement to working in agriculture. Especially after being retired for 3.5 yrs. I will be adding a scale under the chute soon, hopefully once harvest slows down. Hopefully it works out, I wasn't going to pay 3k for a scale, so I'm going to try a set up I found for about 800. I'm hoping it doesn't bite me in thr but. Thanks for watching, and thanks for all you did!

    10/11/24, 5;37am EST Great Job and Smart. I like keeping the cattle & other smaller Livestock separate, but together. I've been thinking about having a place to sit when one is about to give birth and also have an area to serve as the feed/med/office/tack/etc room with the WashBay/Grooming/Farrier/Vet/Dental space at the other end where the 2nd garage door can access away from the Foaling Box are so they can drive in and and out while the pregnant Mare is not so easily stressed. I have been researching barns and barn setups for the past few years and now that I am retired I can finally have my Farm. Congrats, you did a Great job explaining why you did this and that. I have been thinking to build a separate temporary Clear Span building with garage doors at both end to keep the gas/diesel/ equipment away from the office and Animals. Making it a pass through design for the tractors, Livestock Box Trailer, 1-2-horse Trailer, Kubota, mower, the 1 ton diesel tow truck, pallet mover, snow plow, etc. My thought is making them both temporary until the permanent barn plans have been approved and built. I am also planning on having a classroom setup for the local FFA and the 4-H to use for the children who do not have the means and place to care for their 4-H/FFA projects. This way, I have more time to get the place surveyed and watch it through the seasons watching for rainwater and snow melt flow patterns and meanwhile get my projects started. I like the idea of temporary building use so that I can have it moved to a different space where it can repurposed... like for a greenhouse & Aquaculture setup, or other use.

    Thank you for the video. I have the same trailer, spare tire on the side. I love it and it's a great trailer well built. I have a question if you can help or experienced, I have 06 Chevy 2500HD Diesel ext cab, 8' bed, when I pull this trailer with a load any type of load, logs, material or my tractor, the trailer and the truck behave in a chucking, lurching front to back motion when driving open road or freeway. It happens frequently it comes and goes. Funny thing, this same condition happened when pulling a small rental dump 6x12. I know there are all of the factors of tongue weight, capacity ect, but I have been within the specs. My main question, have you experienced this lurching motion pulling a loaded trailer? Thanks.

    Kubota needs to use these tractors in order to know that you can’t push the gas and brake at the same time? I returned my L2501 for a L2502 because they fixed the problem by removing the clutch and shifting the brake pedals to the other side. I need to use gas and brake to take tight turns at the ends of the rows in my garden. The left arm rest/grab is standard (on the 2502) being left handed, I use it. Cruise control is an option, but if you mow a large field, your foot will get tired of being in the treadle pedal all the time (non-ergonomic), it is more of a necessity than an option for me.

    in 2/24, i started looking for a dump trailer and my research began. ive looked at all the offerings in my area, the upper midwest, where pretty much all manufactures are represented. i got to see all these in person and i crawled all over them looking at everything. diamond c had some of the worst welds along with big tex. a smaller big tex dump trailer wasnt even completely painted on the inside of the dump box!!! after a couple months of driving thru trailer lots, looking over the trailers, asking questions and reading/watching things online, i bought a southland sl714-16k dump trailer. $11.5k off the lot and then more for title, tax and licensing. main reason i went with southland is because theyre built different which seems to be a better design. do your own research and make up your own minds. dont know about long term issues if any but right now, im pretty satisfied where my money went to.

We recently purchased a side by side and didn't want to use the dump or the 32 ft to pull around a 14 ft clvehicle. I have a well built equipment from the mid 90s, but 9 month of the yr it is loaded with hay. My Grand L 4060, it can lift 2k pallets no problem, its rated for like 16 or 1800lbs but I have lifted wet GA sand that picked my water filled rear tires off the ground and kept lifting the bucket. But what might serve you better is an mx series from Kubota.

    Are loafing sheds typically anchored to the ground somehow? I live in Nebraska and we just got a horse and I've been looking into these. However we do get insane storms that being 70-80 mph winds and hail. How would these stay in place in 80 mph winds?

      You can hold them down with anchors, some people use the screw in dirt anchors. At least here in ohio, if they aren't permanently attached,say bolted to concrete, you don't pay taxes.
