Let's talk about Pokemon games and how they work!
Dexit - The Moment, The Aftermath, The Future of Pokémon
Hoo boy. This is probably one of the touchiest subjects to discuss for a channel such as this, but here goes. It's been nearly 5 years since we learned that the new Pokémon games wouldn't have all of the Pokémon in them. It was not the best time to be a Pokémon fan. In this video we'll briefly go over what happened, the aftermath, my personal thoughts it as well as things I wish Pokémon would try to help alleviate the sting of what this change in direction for the franchise has caused.

An HM Retrospective - Rise, Fall, Replacement
Переглядів 15 тис.8 місяців тому
HMs, or Hidden Moves, were a feature of the first 6 generations of Pokemon games. Most people are happy they've been dropped, but were they actually a bad feature, or just a victim of imperfect game design? This video will give my thoughts on the subject. Thanks again to my friends at @GamingStooges for the use of footage from their respective gameplay on several Pokemon games. For further read...
The Life and Death of Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter
Переглядів 17 тис.9 місяців тому
Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter were introduced shortly after the release of Pokémon X and Y to allow for transfer from previous generations into the then-current generation of games, but it was also a storage app like Pokémon Box, My Pokémon Ranch, and other similar software. Let's talk about it. Shout-out to @SirToastyToes for informing me of the uniqueness of the Bank Celebi! Bulbapedia ar...

When players got access to The Indigo Disk DLC for Scarlet and Violet, they were given the chance to unlock a new, 19th Tera Type for the Terastalization mechanic. This new Tera Type really feels reminiscent of some older ideas in Pokémon games, and I wanna go over my thoughts in this video. The WEIRD History of Non-HM Field Moves
Переглядів 162 тис.10 місяців тому
Dig. Teleport. Soft-Boiled? Sweet Scent. Headbutt. Milk Drink?? CHATTER?!? Field moves are special moves in the older Pokémon games that help liven up the adventure a little. In this video we'll go over the field moves in the series that weren't HMs at some point and what they added to the adventure and why I liked them. The Most EXPLOITABLE GLITCH in Pokémon - Trainer-Fly (Mew Glitch)
Переглядів 13 тис.11 місяців тому
Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow are home to many glitches. But one particular glitch, even moreso than MissingNo., rises above the rest as the ultimate way to twist the game into your own experience. Let's talk about it. Level 100 BEFORE BROCK | Pokémon Yellow Glitch
Переглядів 583Рік тому
I know this type of video has been made a bunch of times before, but I was inspired to make this when my friend asked how to do this. Just a brief captioned video of how to use the Long-Range Trainer glitch found in Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow to obtain different Pokémon, specifically obtaining Gengar in Yellow and exploiting a separate glitch, the Experience Underflow glitch, to quickly achi...
GENGARRRRR🤜🏻🤛🏻
Everytime I think about using a pokemon and then seeing it is not availabe in gen 9 i get soooo mad. Why Gamefreak? why??? I miss USUM so much. 😭😭
Could you growl the slowpoke/shelldon to lower the mew level to allow easier catching?
1 time I tried to get a level 100 nindoking cuz a different poke tuber showed me so I did all of the steps but I got a slow bro instead
Hot take, Nintendo and gamefreak are full of bullshit, look at the power the switch has, I want yall azure to look into something, completely diffrent game but Wargame: Red Dragon, almost 2000 unique 3D modeled units, you can have litteral hundreds rendered at a time, this is made by compared to the pokemon devs a astronomically tiny French dev team, another upcoming RTS similar is broken arrow, also take that into account, RTS vs RPG, the amount of processing power isn't even similar, the pokemon devs can do this, you could have proably around 20000 on the switch before hitting limits in file size, this is not a "we can't do it because it's impossible", the DLCs prove it, they don't do it because they are either A. Lazy and want an excuse, B. Are trying to nickle and dime via DLCs or C. The 3 year cycle is too fast and needs to change (or they need to expand their team) the fact that anyone with basic understanding of scale and scope thinks that it's mechacly impossible is not informed and lacks information or understanding, it's a joke that they make these excuses and it's honestly kind of nuts that anyone believes these claims
Sweet Scent was always my favorite lazy way to hunt shinies
you are wrong they absolutely can support all pokemons even if its 5000 of them, they just save on wage money for their devs
Why would you want to do this im being serious. You transfer in high level pokemom with thr best moves into a new already easy as hell game why? To make it totally brainless easy?
I've never had a problem with HMs. Let's be real, none of the games that require HMs for progression are hard enough that you can't sacrifice the move slots even for your main party. Strenth, Surf, Fly, and Waterfall are all strong enough to actually be useful in battle. They might not be the best option available, but they are good enough. Flash can be situationally useful. Cut has a lot of PP if you want to farm some weaker pokemon for exp. The only truly useless HM is whirlpool.
If pokemon home had battling maybe i would actually fall for the scam and buy it
Gonna see how many i can remember... Milk Drink and Softboiled share HP with the party, Chatter is technically a field move as you select it from the menu, Sweet Scent attracts Pokemon, Dig escapes the dungeon, Headbutt finds Pokemon in trees, Teleport takes you back to the Pokemon Center Also, the HM Cut has the optional use of cutting grass, and Flash is only sometimes an HM
Oh I forgot about Unova Rock Smash
I played through ORAS, X, and Ultra Sun over the summer and I'm so glad they kept this around despite Nintendo services being taken offline. I just hacked my 3DS and installed it. All my little mans will be brought into home safely 😊
If the rest of swsh gave a valid reason for dexit I and I think most of the masses would eventually find it worth it However what we got was a lazy unfinished game with barely anything substantial to do that lacks on nearly every front of a pokemon game Swsh had so much potential, and I'm especially disappointed considering I'm british myself but oh well. Let's hope z-a finally does this series some justice for the first time a long while
I'm of the opinion the national dex itself was unweildy from the start, irrespective of how hard it would be on the developer end. It's a novelty at It's core, one you needed to pay for more often than not. Some would say that novelty is what keeps them invested in the franchise, I'd say it's what keeps them addicted, with sword and shield being the withdraw. That said, the way gamefreak & co handled "cutting" this feature has eternally poisoned the conversation around it. The issues with the series' development run far too deep to be solved with simply lightening the load, especially when they never fully commited to it in the first place. They didn't cut corners to increase quality, they cut corners to preserve an existing quality
Pokemon Red: I used the Long-Range Trainer at Nugget Bridge before to get Mew and it worked just fine. Now I want to use the same trainer again for glitching but somehow I fail. The fly away and exclamation point works. I battle a wild pokemon on a different route and then come back to the nugget bridge but no pop up of start/pause menu. The buttons are broken "forever". After restarting everything works again but no chance to use the glitch.
It seems even for the Ditto Glitch you need to really battle a trainer in between to make it work.
That 24 hour transfer cool down from Sapphire/Fire Red to Pearl was always brutal lol
So apparently Pokémon scarlet is about 6GB even with new textures. Modern games can easily take over 20, so how hard would it be to keep all the old mons in new games? It shouldn’t be too much effort if they’re just reused models and animations from the previous games.
Oh this glitch, it's absolutely awesome, but I always thought if you knew what you were doing you could get a level 1 Mew. Pair that with the item/experience underflow glitch and then repeat for a team consisting of a LVL 100 Nidoking and LVL 100 Mew. I mean if some kid walked into my gym and sent either of those out I'd just surrender and hand over the badge without a fight. I know when I'm done for
I was today year's old when I found out about Soft-Boiled.
i like this channel
Very good video! fun to see someone explain the math behind it
All I'll say is I will continue to refuse to play any pokemon game without every pokemon in it. This unfortunatly means that all of my pokemon since FireRed are still back in UltraMoon.
The main problem that I have with HMs that compared to other turn-based RPGs is due to Pokémon being very restrictive with the number of moves Pokémon can have usable at any given time has been 4 since generation 1. So, in order to traverse places you must permanently, unless you go to a Move Deleter, sacrifice one or more of your Pokémon's available moves that you cannot change out with newer moves to give them certain roles. Unless it is a very viable move, I will have one or two Pokémon be designated to learn HMs exclusively for traversal purposes. I was even confused why it was designed this way as a kid. I always thought it would make more sense that when you defeat a gym leader said gym leader would "teach" you how to teach your Pokémon to do certain things outside of combat that applies to certain Pokémon and you just need to find out which Pokémon knows which one or ones. No. Instead, as I kid, I wondered how do I get passed X thing, made the deduction that I need to defeat the gym leader first to get access to a certain HM to use, beat the gym leader and they hand me moves that I never end up teaching to any of my Pokémon, frantically waste an hour trying to figure out where I find the HM sometimes, learn that Pokémon taught an HM cannot have the move removed/overwritten except by a specific NPC, and lastly finding Pokémon that I don't care about to learn HMs. Now that I am older, as a risk versus reward unintentionally designed in Gen 6 and prior. Do you take as many Pokémon with you that know HMs so that you can easily traverse without backtracking but limit the number of battle-ready Pokémon you can bring with you? Or, do you bring only certain ones (like Surf) and risk having to go back to a Pokémon Center to switch out your party. I just think it's neat.
Here's my two cents on the matter. Why not make the next core series titles a ROM hack of Scarlet and Violet? That way they would only need to update the 280+ pokemon not in Scarlet and Violet, as the remaining 800+ would already be programed into the game, with no effort required.
You can also walk into a pokemon center and switch pokemon boxes, then reset to unlock your controls (and make the game think you aren't in a battle).
- oh wait half of the dex are normal, water and flying what do we do now? - I have this idea called cut, fly, strenght, flash, surf, waterfall, dive
FireRed & LeafGreen were when HMs were at their peak you were expected to carry 6 of them at all times & waterfall if you ever wanted to go to the 4 Island Cave or take a shortcut on 2 Island. Heart Gold & Soul Silver could have been cruel & had Defog stay as HM05 with Whirlpool being HM09 thankfully there will never be an official game with more than 8 of them. Still I'm curious how a Foggy Red Battle would have been. 1 of the coolest thing about HMs being learned is you could get to some cool places early. SS Anne is a place you don''t need to make depart if you trade to get a Pokemon with Cut. Likewise I remember getting a traded Oshawott with Surf in Gen 5 near the start of the game which was cool as well.
While I really like generation 9, I do think dexit continues the hurt the series going forward. I refused to buy gen 8 and have only ever played it due to a friend I share games with got it anyway. I still can’t decide whether Swsh or XY are the worst main generation games
I dont see why people consider putting hms on a team member a burden, like i thought the main story's difficulty was biult with the idea youll have hms spread out over your team. Like useing pokemon red my avrage team and movesets look like this: Venusaur Cut Toxic Razor leaf Leech seed Raichu Thunderbolt Body slam Flash Thunder wave Snorlax Fire blast Surf Rest Amisia Mew Fly Transform Strength Metronome Dugtrio Dig Earthquake Slash Double team Clefable Pay day Softboild Ice beam Sing Like i imagen the qvrage storyline team was supposed to look like this. So i dont get why people act like spreading hms axross your team happens to be so bad.
I don't see why as long as some Pokemon online service exists that all older versions of that service can't continue to run. No matter what, they have to pay to keep servers on
11:10 I was once trying to get level 100 mew and i messed it up and it grew only to level 2. I know why it did that
The "Dexit" issue is not an issue. Pokemon fans just like to complain. The best part about it? We no longer need to have a full living national dex to get the shiny charm, we have well balanced games, we have Pokemon Home for the national dex and to be honest I've used pokemon I would normally not have thought about or given a second chance. Sure would I love to use my favs but at the end of the day the cutting of the national dex in every game has not caused any issue for me what so ever.
I will never buy another mainline Pokémon game again until they bring back all of the pokemon and fix the galar fossils, they’re the highest grossing media franchise yet their games look like crap, are rushed and broken with overpriced dlcs. I have no idea why people are willing to defend incomplete products and less content.
What's wrong with the Galar fossils?
@@andrewtuell1991 they’re incomplete and in constant pain, you also can’t freaking fix them
Can you use the same trainer for for multiplayer glitch in the same game?
You missed two, Defog in DPPt and Rock Climb in HGSS.
Hms basically gave gameplay limitations where there shouldnt be any. You can have a team of 6 pokemon with 4 moves each only you need to replace 5-8 of those 24 moveslots with a basically useless move (few notible exceptions). OR you have a team of 4 with 2 hm slaves. And you cant just quickly deal with some obstacles and forget them for better moves later down the line unless you go to the move relearner (which didnt even exist in gen 1). Also that only works for some of the HMs since depending on the game youll need a good chunk of em throughout the entire experience. There were so many easy fixes but as it stood for over 15 years (just mind boggling) it was a MASSIVE gameplay flaw
I like transferring pokemon
Read the title as non-field HM moves and I was a lot more interested
I will never understand why they didn't just make HM moves innate abilities. Take Scyther for example: once you unlock the badge that lets you use Cut, Scyther can just always Cut outside of battle. You can use the HM on it if you want him to use Cut in battle, but otherwise it's just an ability of that Pokemon. Once you unlock the badge for Fly, either Scyther could innately use both outside of battle, or restrict each Pokemon to a single HM move that fits it best. When they introduced natures and abilities, I was convinced this was the next logical step that just never came.
Granted, BDSP almost got there, I just want to feel like I'm adventuring with *my* Pokemon.
You can also get Nidoqueen, Parasect, Dragonite, Arcanine, Scyther, Elecabuzz, Growlithe, Chansey, Missingno, Blastoise, Gengar, and others. Some are repeats.
If you use growl on the trainer pokemon, then mew will be a lower level.
It's worth noting that Dig had a partial repurpose in generation 3, being required to access to Sealed Chamber where the Regis legendary event can be triggered. It's the only time the field move's functionality changes, and it only occurs on one specific tile inside the cave.
I think they take 4-5 year before releasing gen 10, also I hope they will make another wave of dlc (I could pay another $30) so we get all 1025 pokemon in one game
Dexit was unavoidable. How they handled it was unacceptable.
Realistically if there is a Homebrew version of Poke Transporter made it will probably work 10x better than the actual official poke transporter app amd have features like picking individual Pokémon or sending more than a single box
Gotta catch some of ‘em
Yep :/
Gen 9 does have HMs (Herba Mystica) which made the moves only out of battle effects 😊
