Should have won this race.... In qualy i was the fastest by a whole second, but during the race i just had a bad feeling and kept lifting instead of battling. I suppose it worked out since there was a car that spun in front of me but that shouldnt have mattered because i should have been in front! Oh well, still a good time!

My FIRST race ever in a Formula Mazda and only my 3rd time in one of these glorious cars. I had 2 practice days leading up to this event, which in retrospect was not enough to really get comfortable with the car. Yet, i managed to get to grips with the car pretty fast. By the end of the first race, i was within 2 seconds of the fast guys. Sundays race went much better! Enjoy watching me go slow...

NASA Eagles Canyon Raceway race 3 on 04/30/2022. To cap off my abysmal weekend, i spun on nearly the last lap and decided that enough is enough and drove straight off the track and straight on my trailer to drive 6 hours home lol.

NASA Eagles Canyon Raceway Spec Miata Race 2 4/10/2022. I ran out of gas and pulled it in one lap early. Just one of the many events that occured during this weekend to make it my worst weekend of racing ever haha.

What would you say to someone looking to get into FM?
See if you can find someone who will allow you to rent their car so you can drive before you buy. These cars arent for everyone. Also, if youre a normal person it will take a bit to get used to the speeds. I personally had 2 days before I did my first race and really i should have done one more test day before doing the race. Coming from Spec Miatas, these cars get in your mirrors extremely fast. You need to be on your toes at all times so allow yourself as much time as you need to get comfortable before entering a race environment.
Please, can you refresh my memory of a coupla' Formula Mazda details?? 1) Is this a wet or dry sump system?? 2) Is Daryl Drummond still providing the sealed engines?? I know he moved from Bakersfield, Ca, to Colorado. Cool guy, spent an afternoon watching him test/dyno refreshed engines. 3) Which transaxle is used?? Thanks in advance.
These are wet sump, daryl still rebuilds them but there are no more new parts so he can only rebuild what you have. The transaxle is a hewland mk9 i believe
@@bsracing90 Thanks, IMHO, I think the Formula Mazda is a better deal for club racing than any F/Ford, Recall a National points race at Buttonwillow including the F/Mazda's the Rodriguez Bros were there in support. Enough onboard spares to build several cars. One fella went off big time Sat, broke virtually every susp. piece. Overnight, Rod Bros rebuilt the entire susp, was ready next day to race.
Hello, Thank you for the videos, im doing a similar build(rebuild) with my FM, I was curious as to how to were able to locate the correct location of the holes for the cockpit cover dzus fasteners.

Do you know why the brake light is banned in SCCA?
Because when its raining you need the light on at all times so you can see the cars in front of you. The plash from the other cars makes it impossible to see so if you dont have that light on the car in front of you, you wont see it.
