It is the honeycomb stitch! It works great as ribbing because it lays flat!

So basically it's helpful to work in panels or columns. So I would complete one column of squares of alternating colors and then for the next panel or column, I would join into the first stitch of the first square of the previous panel and ch 1 less than I had for the original panel (say i started off with a square 20 sts wide, I will ch 19 for the next panel and continue working across and working my last st into the first st of the previous panel and work the height of each square before changing to the contrast color. I hope that makes sense! Let me know if I should do a separate video with panels, would it be helpful?

It will definitely be more stretchy and spread out with a larger hook size!

Do you mean the stitch in knitting or the Tunisian crochet version? I have this tutorial as well that's sort of the knit version of this stitch, it's called the Left Twist Knit Stitch: ua-cam.com/video/bNFZ4f6fu5U/v-deo.htmlsi=v9rc-DXV7EQ386O8

I'm sure you could do cross stitch for a blanket but maybe it would be a good idea to make a back panel or sew a backing to it to prevent the stitches from getting snagged. As for how long it would last in the washer, that depends on the type of yarn you use and whether or not you add a backing. I would say acrylic yarn would wash best and again having a backing would probably make it last longer. I hope that helps =)!

Hi Sarah! That sounds like such a cute idea. Hmm, I'm thinking you would have to switch colors in the middle of the row right before you start the star stitch pattern? So for example in this video in Row 2 you would have to tss 3 in the main color (4 stitches in the main color), then switch and tss 5 in the contrast color, switch back to the main color and continue in this way completing the 5 stitches where the stars would be worked in the contrast color and then in the next row when you do tss 5 together, you would use the contrast color again.
