I personally think Garp had to sacrifice Ace in order to keep up his doings with Sword since otherwise he would be completely kicked out of the Marine and probably even imprisoned.. Garp probably knows way more than even we caught up manga readers at this point and had a mission to change the Marines from the inside while also using their infrastructure and privileges etc. to do good in the world.. giving up all of those decades of work for an impulsive and emotional move like saving ace who maneuvered himself into that situation and didnt even have the will to live for most of his life and didnt want to bring salvation to the world like coby wants and could.. it would simply be stupid.. and while garp is kinda childish and stupid at times he knows how serious the world really is and how important his legacy and work with sword is.. as sad as it sounds but ace wasnt worth it even when garp loved him just as much :(

Well Ace is stupid and selfish he put himself in danger along with the others dragging people who cares for him to war because of his stupidity why blame the old man?.Garp told Ace If he wanted to he could ask a help from Garp and Garp is willing to bend his own will if only not for Ace pride to ask to.Ace is dumb while Coby is not he put himself alone to save the others the opposite of Ace.Its fully Ace actions and consequences resulting to chaos.
