NaNoWriMo 2011 | Prep 4 | ...I have something to say... There was so much happening this weekend and since that I'm finally getting this video up! Its starting to become clear to me how little time I actually have to work on NaNo and other stuff outside of my job training program. I maintain that I will do my best on both fronts. :)

Stitchery Witchery 2017 | Week 3: Summer Summer lovin' with a Romeo & Juliet bookmark! This pattern went so fast. I had it finished within a few days which is great because I've been SUPER busy! In fact, when I tried to film this, the camera died and I wasn't able to finish up until the next morning (that's why I sound so bored, haha, just waking up!) How has the month been going for you? NaNoWriMo 2017 | Prep 3 | Prepping Pitfalls Sometimes you can run into some pitfalls when preparing to write your story and not just for NaNoWriMo! I have to remind myself every year that the main goal is NaNo, not just preparing for it... Also, this week has been hectic! Sorry for the tardy video. Though this weekend will be a bit hectic, I'll try to get next week's video out sooner!

I love the vid! As DawnWriting said, your problem with no plot is what I always suffer from. I am starting to freak out because I have a bunch of small ideas that I'm not sure I can expand into 50k. And I want to win this year. Or at least get past 28k. >.>

I'm so happy you're back!! I have to start off by saying how our stories became is so similar. I have had the story I'm writing in my head since I was about 12...I was a very weird kid. My story is about how a young couple gets engaged and gets very overwhelmed by the wedding planning process so they decide to elope. They then realize how much it would hurt their families if they canceled the wedding so they decide to keep their marriage a secret, and go through with the wedding anyway. I am kind of in a similar place with I know how it will start and end but I don't know how to connect them yet. I hope I can figure it out during this month and finally get this story out of my head. Good luck with nanowrimo this year!! I added you as a buddy and the little bit you said about your story sounds VERY good!!

I am once again attempting NaNo this year. For my past 3 attempts - the last 3 years - I have had a full student schedule and a full rehearsal, tech, and performance schedule over October and November. But this year, I do not have quite as much obligatory life stuff going on, so i'm hoping I can finally NaNo and focus like I want to. I have never been very good at prep, but I did recently pick up a book on writers and writing by Neil Gaiman called "The View from the Cheap Seats" that has been very inspirational for me!

I have always had a tendency of writing fanfictions during NaNoWriMo, even when I have tried to do original works I find myself getting bored of them. Which I think is due to my prepping for it in advance and I just don't feel motivated for it when November does finally come along. However fanfictions are always my go-to, I can always create some kind of story from one, or many, of my fandoms. I will be challenging myself next month too, even with working in a store - although I have had that challenge for a while now - and the added bonus of going to a wedding, in Canada, when am in Scotland, so might lose a few days to that. Over all am rather excited for next month. I do wonder, do other's go to the writing meet-up's that are had in their local groups in relation to NaNoWriMo forums?

    • @TheSunnyDayle

I love fanfiction! I started out writing a lot of it in high school. I went to a couple meet-ups that I found through the NaNo forums a couple years ago. I found them a lot of fun--it's great meeting other writers. I'm thinking of seeing if there's any nearby in OKC, even though halfway through NaNo I'll be moving again. >.<

Regarding that plot book - I've always felt like you should listen to an agent about how to get an agent, but listen to writers for writing advice- seems like every agent eventually says "write what has already been successful" and writers are like WRITE FOR YOURSELF! CREATE! BE UNIQUE!

The theme it's actually very important. By choosing a theme you choose your characters, your locations and most of your plot. The theme is the heart of any good novel. Any novel which stands out - from Goethe's Faust to Orwell's 1984 - are reinterpretations of a certain theme. It is boring, I know, but grasping the true concept of theme is what made people become great authors since the days of the ancient Greeks. I really encourage you to study it when you can find the time.

Well congratulations on new beginnings, both in your personal life and in your new story you've settled on! It sounds like this Nano is going to be a really tough one, but it's not about winning. It's about commiting to a story you love. I tried this week to write like it was Nano, and I ended up with a 2,849 word night of tortured bliss where I was writing like a slug 1900 words in, then a 408 word flop where I couldn't even finish my last sentence I had started, and then yesterday, a "you know what? Just focus on getting the house clean okay?" day. I told myself, write to that one really yummy scene you love and you would think I'd be like, and then this happened and then that happened and then BOOOM! Sex scene, but no... I'm actually trying to craft an authentic life for my characters. My first week of Nano is going to be a loss unless I am an insomniac; I'm going on vacation to Washington D.C. for a week! How can I write with all of those museums and pretty trees to look at? Plus Pokemon Go? Hehe! But to me, my real life, my obligations and chores, and this vacation too, are more important than keeping up my word count. I can't let my house go to disarray and ignore my cats just because my story needs to get written. So anyway- my thought to you is, don't stress yourself out. Enjoy the move, the stress (enjoy stress? yikes!) the changes in your life, the uncertainty; allow it to feed your writing if some of those emotions prompt you, but don't beat yourself up if 1700 words a day every single day is just too much to ask at this point in your life.

OMG! You really are a planner! I like seeing how other people plan although I don't plot. I usually have a character or a title or a line that sparks the idea and then I go from there. I might find some visuals and past them into a little book or folder, but not much other than that. It always amazes me that people can set out every chapter and such. Woot! I am so a pantser. When I've planned I've gotten bored with the story. Every story I've planned never makes it much beyond 10,00 words.

In a new good by, please ease in to the romance, and don't make the girl a damsel in distress. She is new to the secret world, so she brings a new perspective to the rules, maybe she finds some interesting loopholes. If she does get pregnant, maybe her motivation is a little less about her one true love, and more about her refusing to take care of the kid on her own.

I love the 'Model Wife' concept. its something I would really want to read. Also the other story idea about the girl seeing colour in a colourless world, sounds really interesting!
