Interesting. I was highly interactive with my daughter as a newborn and throughout her development. Even during her diagnosis and onward, and still am to this day. I found it’s her level of anxiety that triggers adhd symptoms. Focusing on developing routine and coordination of responsibilities have helped tremendously. Neuroplasicity is a new circuitry I hope elevates her motivation and reduces the anxiety. But to say it’s because of the tuning out, definitely does not resonate with me. My daughter manages great grades in school because of her efforts and my support, just like any kid, but the zoning out and forgetfulness is ever present until the order of routine, appropriate behaviour and the willfulness overrides the adhd symptoms. I truly believe, unless you have a child with this diagnosis, or you yourself have it, one doesn’t fully understand it. ❤

I disagree with Gabor Mate on this one. ADHD is not a trauma response but a neurodevelopmental disorder. What he is describing is PTSD, which has a few similar symptoms but is not the same thing.

Well thank god it’s easy for me to tune out that how I cope with annoying people that won’t stfu. I especially do this every Wednesday I am forced to be in a room full of MFs I could give 2 F****** about. Imagine being in a room of people discussing the most irrelevant worldly ish. It’s like sitting through one of those idiotic podcast I see on my FYP except I can’t scroll past it I gotta sit there till the 2 hours is up. Tuning out is handy in these situations so I don’t have to absorb anything they are saying. One thing about adhd people. We can tell when the vibe is off in a room.

Well. I want to believe him I have adhd. The meds I took did work. I just can't take them cause it hurts my body. So I practice coping skills. Religion, punishment from belts boards and switches, being told negative things about myself. I became a therapist to help me cope and help others cope.
