This video include a review and my impressions of the Tohatus MFS 40 outboard motor that just helped me complete a 2,405 mile trip through the Inside Passage from Port Townsend, Washington to Skagway, Alaska and back. I also show some tips and tricks I do with the motor and how I maintain the motor. I have personally put over 300 hours and 6,000 miles on this motor in the past year and a half.

Marine Foam Flotation Test

What is better... block polystyrene or poured in polyurethane foam! My observation has been that poured in polyurethane foam water logged quickly and that block polystyrene absorbed less water and dried quickly. This proved true when I had to remove the floor and flotation from by boat in the Arctic to do a repair... it came out dry... it was block polystyrene foam. On the internet people told ...
Northwest Passage by Arctic Jon Boat
Переглядів 3,5 тис.Рік тому
Checkout the Northwest Passage viewed from the smallest boat to ever attempt the route, power by a single outboard motor and piloted by its solo occupant. The adventure ended up covering approximately 2,000 miles and taking about a month. Traveling the Oceans and Gulfs of the Arctic takes a toll on equipment and the human body. Stay with the video series to meet the people and view the sites th...
Ageless Wanderer - Vance Kick-Up Jackplat

I love sharing information about equipment I have put to the test with my friends and "Ageless Wanderer" UA-cam followers. A motor Kick-Up Jackplate can save thousands of dollars of damage to your lower unit or power tilt and trim system... not to mention saving the fishing trip, ducking hunting trip or adventure of a life time. I hope you enjoy the video! I would like to shout out "Shandon Nic...

What is a "Discovery Flight"? If you have ever dreamed of being at the controls of a helicopter, maybe flying a helicopter was a bucket list item as it was for me... a Discovery Flight is a way to make that dream come true. My Discovery Flight is recorded in Spherical Video... it is the closest thing to being right there with me. Some call this type of video "Virtual Reality", having the opport...

Luna and walk the 10.33 miles of Southern Walnut Creek Trail in Austin, Texas. This is a training hike for my upcoming hike through the Grand Canyon in a couple of weeks. For those that live in the area this is a great trail through the woods for biking and hiking. In most areas the trail is 10' wide. Ageless Wanderer - Prop Shaft Straightening
I lived on the Trinity River east of Cleveland, and we used to catch big crabs, gafftop, and a Redfish or two. Mullet jumped all the time.
Such a cool video. Luna looked like she had fun 👍🏼👍🏼
Anahuac was my favorite escape-to spot when I lived in Houston! Caught my first big Alligator gar there.
Thanks for the video it’s very informative.
😊 Now I know who you are 😀
Good stuff I’m gonna try and bend my prop shaft back like this untill I get $ for a new Volvo penta DP-c1 shaft
Excellent 👌👍
$$?
Glad to see your still out there!! Have really enjoyed your videos.
Love the motor cowling tether! Gonna do that on my 15!
Awesome video sir !! 😊 I just traded my 25 Tohatsu for a 40 like yours and am breaking it in at present. My water sampling business on the big Atamaha River in SE GA requires a 100% reliable motor, and i have run Tohatsus exclusively because my life depends on it. Hint: Amsoil is the oil to use as it will last indefinitely with only a filter change every 100 hours. Expensive but oh so so worth the extra $ !!!! Be safe and keep safe ....
@@wodnastj since completing breakin with dino oil, I run quality synthetic oil and change oil and filter every 50 hours. I am a retired mechanical engineer and worked for engine manufacturers for most of my life. I've had lengthy conversations with our lubrication engineers. There is a lot going on there... I change oil often as the pH and other chemistry is impacted even though quality synthetic oil doesn't break down (fractures above 400F) in a water cooled 4 stroke motor. Some say my strategy is excessive and expensive... like you, my life depends on motor reliability... I'll spend the extra!
Glad you got some footage of that expansion bridge in Liberty. That railroad bridge has been replaced now by something much uglier, but I guess more efficient. I enjoyed the trip.
I used 1-inch-thick Styrofoam boards that I bought from Lowes. They come in 4' x 8' sheets and I cut them to fit the compartments under the floor of my boat and used Liquid Nails to stack and glue the individual panels in place. ua-cam.com/video/tTYxEF7QheE/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/e9E3BzDtPbs/v-deo.html
Thank you sir
Luna is a cutie. I love the videos with her along for the trip.
Love your journeys with Luna. Is she a Chihuahua?
Finally got around to watching this. Great video! The ice and sea creatures are majestic!
Lunds are not fragile. LMAO, if they were they wouldn't be using them in Alaska. Folks told me my riveted boat would leak , that was 20 years ago. It still doesn't leak , I'm on the Gulf coast , it's getting beat on constantly.
Wow! Amazing trip!! I'm thinking getting a boat myself!! Thanks for sharing this amazing experience!
Great video! Thank you.
I'd be sooo scared it didn't say "Honda". Kudos to you and your journey.
I found this and am fascinated, where are the remaining videos, OI could only find the first one in the north west passage journey.
Great Stuff as always!
Hi Robert, congrats on your completion of passage, I followed along on Facebook. On the 120 hours oil change, I seriously doubt that's a problem since 100 hours is recommended interval. I'm on my 2nd Tohatsu mfs20e and love the engine. Tohatsu states you can run oil filter for 200 hours and oil for 100. I think this should be reverse, filter every 100 and oil at 200. Oil doses not go bad. just needs filtering. Good advise on the cover lanyard, I think I'll do the same. I also have a tach and hour meter, I mounted mine on tiller handle for easy view of rpm. When draining motor oil it's less of a mess if you tilt engine up and lay tiller over to starboard, oil drip clears the lower unit while draining. A note, don't smear oil around on any painted surface while cleaning up, I did this to my first engine and it contaminated my paint and discolored it. Tohatsu has been a leader in outboard engine around the world for decades, the U.S. market is late to the party. I've noticed in last several years Tohatsu has increased its presence in U.S. marketing. Once again thanks for sharing your tips and experiences with us.
I'm sure the 120 hours between changes is probably no problem. I'd check for oil level at 100 hours and if no loss, then press on until the next ability to change :) Thanks for sharing, Sir!
What goes up must come down oh, so I would imagine IS a good time and situation to move towards your destination?
A pleasure to have met you today at Nanaimo, British Columbia! Wishing you the safest of adventure sir !
This video was so interesting. I hope that you find the time to post some more of this trip! 🤞🏼
I loved the boat tour. I look forward to seeing your camping setup on it next! 🚣🏽⛺️🙂
good to know about the bearing buddys
The bearing buddies that I use has a vent hole near the end so you can't overfill it. I prefer the ones you use but my trailer is a 1986. Changed the bearings once. They were worn out from thousands of miles.
That's a lot of gas on a 16' boat ! What's the weight capacity of the boat ?
On my bucket list for my 65th 🎉. Nice video.
Great test and informative. Thanks for sharing.
Love it! Everyone seems to be using jacks and dial indicators this way is as simple as it gets thanks for showing you method of doing this looks like the go to me.
His way is eyeballing it, a dial indicator is the only way to know you are within manufacturers specification
I don't comment often, but I must tell you that I loved your video and you are inspirational to me. Looking forward the next part of your trip!
Great video
What size is your boat I just recently bought the 15 foot tracker Jon boat
What horse power was the outboard? Why did you choose that brand? What modifications did you make to the boat before you made this trip? Congratulations.
You sir are my hero!!!! Been watching your videos since your first upload. Great job !!! And awesome trip!
I have a question about your kickplate. I have the same one on my jon. I'm needing to raise my motor more but I'm out of mounting holes on the motor base to move up. Are the holes under the stainless shafts where the kick plate hinges meant be used as another form of adjustment? Like could I raise up my motor by moving the shafts to the center hole?
How much jack does it actually have ?
Well done, hope we get to see some drone shots too. Love following your story.
Been following you since the take began on Facebook! Awesome to see you adding to UA-cam!
I have been waiting for these videos. I followed your track via a link Greg sent me. Incredible!! Thanks for the video!
You’re pronouncing Tuktoyaktuk wrong. You’re forgetting to say the middle K :) Tuk-toy-ak-tuk
I’m looking forward to these videos Congratulations by the way
Followed your Facebook updates! Awesome!
Awesome.
that was easy.thanks
