Jack and Elvis, 2 nice men to remember.....❤
I agree, the history is endlessly fascinating, and I love these little personal and human moments as well. Thanks for commenting.
Att Elvis sa, när han presenterade Jack i publiken: " Sitt ner Jack, du får mer applåder än mig," visar hur goda vänner de var. 2 nice men to be remembered...❤❤
There is more to it than that, Blitzen Don Rickles Casino brung me hear..
Kenneth Williams a brillant man 💚
Maggie Smith a beautiful woman 💚
Kenneth had a point. Shocked by Parkinson saying it was crap!
I like the way they both dug their way out of it before things got out of hand. KW's "I've never been so insulted" was perfectly timed, then Parky handing over to John Betjeman. Nicely done.
GOVERNOR BILL WALLACE
My Mom, Kathy Garcia, was at this show!!!!! I was at home....4 years old and clueless.
Thanks for commenting - I hope she had a great night, it was certainly a better show that was reported at the time.
I have a picture of him from this show and the i guess flyer (🤔)! He passed away way before i was born (80s), idk why but my mom had us have "code words" for if a stanger ever approached us, theyd have to know that word. Anyway, for whatever reason i chose elvis. Back in june i decided i wanted to do a collage wall and headed off to an antique store. And there is was in all its glory! I passed it up at first cause of the price. But i weighted on me the whole time i was there. After about 20 mins or so fiddling around in the other asiles, i high tailed back thru the store, and grabbed it! 😊
Rip jimmy reid and Kenneth Williams Amazing over 50 years later and we still have a lot of the same issues to this day
When is this audio from?
I don't actually know, I thought that it had originally appeared on the spoken word album, 'Having Fun with Elvis on Stage' and hoped there might be a date on that, but then realised that the album was released in 1974, so that's obviously not the case. 😅. It sounds to me more like an arena than Vegas, so that just narrows it down to most of 1976. My guess would be that it's earlier in the year rather than later, but I don't know the actual show that this is from. Hopefully someone might know and be able to help us.
One thing I didn't like about strikes was the compulsion to do it. If someone disagreed, and wanted to continue working, why not let them do it? Why be a fascist about it? And the vile dehumanisation of someone who disagrees with them; utterly abhorrent. 'Scab'. What a sick thing to do, to call a fellow worker a 'scab'. If their position is genuinely strong then most workers will strike. So what if a minority don't? Leave them to it. Let them be free (one of the things the strikers want for themselves).
I remember Tom Seaton in When The Boat Comes In worked during a strike and nearly got lynched for it. His wife was dying and he needed his wages to buy her medicine. If enough men went on strike the firm, or the government, are going to be up against it even if a minority don't strike.
Sad to lose a sibling, or, maybe worse, a child; but if a child dies in infancy because of the social conditions why have more children in those same conditions? Why not postpone more children whilst fighting for better conditions. I'm not saying it was his parents' fault; the other children might not have been planned, but in general I think my point stands.
I suppose the truth of the matter is, that there could only have ever been one Kenneth Williams
This was on Colonel Parker's 72nd birthday ?
I'd never even thought of that, but you're right, it was his birthday. It appears that he was born in 1909, but who really knows if that was true 😅.
What a piece of television.
I can't help but hear how so many of these songs mirrored the Hawaii concert😊and actually this is show is one of his best ever
Thanks for commenting, I agree, I think the live album recorded Memphis at the end of this tour was just about his best (official) live album, to me it's superior to the Aloha album but not everyone agrees. 😅 This one is quite fascinating to hear as a pure rock and roll show without the orchestra.
Williams was a typical arse licking tory voting fool who just adores being oppressed.
TIM BURTON any ways that’s cool
What a vile creature Kenneth Williams was.
I remember watching Jimmy Reid on Parky. I was a teenager from Glasgow and my heart swelled with pride to hear a working clas accent so learned and articulated on TV instead of the depiction of us as alcoholics, layabouts and street fighters in drama and comedy. So many talented and smart working class people never had a chance to shine. Their dreams destroyed before they even left school early to earn money for deprived families. And to think the scourge of Thatcherism was only 5 years away.
All four, sat around a table...are not unlike 'Death In Leamington', for they have all moved ' to a room next door'..... RIP that formidable quartet.
😅 he does live forever inner hatch in our hearts❤❤❤❤❤❤😅❤❤❤
My sweet Elvis, you 've gone to soon.
Parkinson is terribly rude in my opinion sorry
Speaking as a Parky fan myself, there were times he didn't quite get it right.
Kenny and Sir John would be devastated what's happening in our country today!
Class :-)
Kenneth Williams, quite unstoppable
Jesus saves
Parkinson was brilliant. So was Kenneth Williams. Four erudite professionals.
People complaining about Kenneth speaking too much: this was his segment - the other two had already had theirs.
You're not the only person to point this out. Very fair point.
It would be nice to know what happened to mrs churches boys..
Best of the live concerts Great variety of songs! Yet its not the one released On rca This is the afternoon concert Not the evening one!
Yes, this is actually the matinee from March 16th, which was the first of five shows at the Coliseum. There were initially four shows over March 16 and 17, the actual official RCA live album session was at the final show on March 20th, which was added to the end of the tour due to demand, and was the only show on that day. Other soundboard recordings from the tour were bootlegged. (I think the original bootleg album title for this show was 'Hello Memphis'). I like this period as well, I think the official Memphis album is actually better than Aloha and is his best (official) live album of the seventies, although not everyone agrees. 😀 By the way, the database at elvisconcerts.com has lots of great info on tour schedules, attendances, tracklists and releases (official and unofficial) www.elvisconcerts.com/concerts/dbsearch.php. Thanks so much for commenting.
What a wonderful video, I didn’t know Maggie and Kenneth were such friends.
You need to find the excerpt of when the two of them went shopping for a bra for Maggie. At the moment can't remember if I saw it on YT or FB but it appeared since the passing of Maggie.
@@MiriamWalcott I think that was on Parky's Kenneth Williams retrospective which featured this clip as well as a couple of great stories about Edith Evans. Brilliant. 😅
Such a shame that all four of them are no longer with us. Speaking from the heart with sincerity, compassion and authenticity. Not giving a damn about promoting the next thing they’re appearing in. A show like this would never happen again and we’re all the poorer for it.
Extremely well put, I couldn't agree more.
Holy shit that's a tight band
I love this combination as well, it all came together incredibly well, considering Larrie Londin and Shane Keister had virtually no rehearsal time😅
Rex Reed was famous for his vitriol, think he inspired Ava Gardner's, "They're either at your feet or at your throat." After a particularly embarrassing notice, Dame Diana Rigg compiled a book of reviews, "No Turn Unstoned", she appealed to peers for their worst instances, they were eager to participate.
Great insight about Reed, thanks for commenting. I loved also KW's 'eunuchs in harem' analogy...
This clip is both uplifting and depressing. Uplifting to hear such interesting, witty and stimulating conversation from such wonderful personalities. Depressing to compare it to the shallow dull and often puerile fare we are offered in 2024 where mediocrity is celebrated. If television were like this today. I might watch more of it, instead I search UA-cam for memories of better times.
Same here. You're absolutely right about it being uplifting and depressing at the same time.
Ironic given how vastly much better paid far lesser figures are for such appearances and work these days.
you're right. It reminds me of what one American children's writer said in the interview. She won Newberry for one of her novels for children and the TV station invited for a talk. I think she had to take a plane to get there, her plane was delayed, she hardly slept and on the last moment her interview was dropped - they prefered an inteview with some porn star or something of that nature. I don't own a TV. If I want some entertainment I use UA-cam to find sth valuable, usually sth quite old as you mention.
My god has Williams had a few lines of something uplifting before coming on? He couldn't speak any faster??
In public, Williams found it terribly difficult to have a ‘conversation’.
Interesting point, I'd never thought about it in those terms but I see what you mean.
Kenneth Williams is insufferable with his manic monologue! Highly neurotic - or pretending to be as he thinks it is funny.
Oh do naff off! 🙄
Kenneth is so sharp
Love this scene!
I love this one as well. She wasn't holding back with the teatowel 😅
Jimmy Reid = One of the most special Scotsmen in my lifetime - he treated every human being the same, i.e., w/ respect and equality. R.I.P.
Kenneth hogs the limelight, shame. Not enough Maggie or Betjeman. What a great time for good tv and real conversation.
I agree, not much like this on telly any more. Parky said when introducing this episode in a retrospective that having guests that would together elevate the conversation beyond an interview Q and A was one of their aims, and noted that in this instance it worked particularly well. Everyone could see that KW was trying to take over, but it retrospect I think it kind of became part of the episode's enduring charm, in the way that Maggie Smith and Sir John reacted to it.
You must remember that we're viewing a clip from an entire show. Kenneth was the last of the three guests who would've already had their time. This was his.
@@MiriamWalcott Very fair point.
Parkinson was an idiot on this show.
Williams spot on about the selfish strikers, just looking after themselves and to hell with everyone else.
RIP Kris Kristofferson - 28th September, 2024, aged 88. 🙏
Great interview.
Fabulous stuff.❤
Maggie, making sense and being jabbered over by Kenneth being Kenneth despite good advice.
I think everyone could see the funny side of that. 😅
They were friends (apparently he inspired some of her performances) & ALL of the dudes are talking over her, typical. This conversation is ironic long after the fact, Britain notorious for winning the War & losing the peace, labour problems ended their auto industry, British Leyland notably - like Italy!
@@unowen-nh9ov Interesting point about talking over Maggie Smith - I love old Parky but he did seem to struggle a little at times with some of his female guests, unless they were old Hollywood stars...
