GRAND STAIRCASE RENO (ep.3) Removing Carpet From Stairs, Mid-Renovation Home Tour
It's time to tackle the staircase in our foyer makeover. Starting with removing the old, musty, germy carpet! We also need to remove the old, unsafe stair railing/balusters which were not to code (don't worry, the old railings are not antique, they are builder-grade from 1995).
In this episode, we have to make some decisions about the next steps and wrap our heads around what the heck we got ourselves into with this renovation. Then, we will take a tour of the home in its mid-renovation state, and go on a field trip to look at slabs for the kitchen. Come along for the fun!

@@Madoc928 yes refinishing wood floors is a thing! In our last place we sanded and refinished the floors. But in this house considering the square footage of the whole main floor, its more economical to replace it all
I don't know who this person is but she's dead wrong if she thinks that bathroom is ugly. It looks like one of the nicest bathrooms I've ever seen. I would kill for my house to look that good. If they have a lot of different projects to do then maybe they should skip to something more important, because it already looks perfect the way it is.
@@BlakeH..888_ every room is important ❤️ just removing the ugly and cheap fixtures in favor of higher quality ones that are more timeless. The actual bones, cabinets and plumbing will remain untouched, and everything else gets a nice facelift with character

Hi, We did an apartment in 2017 and a smaller house in 2021 - yes!
Oh lord, the amount of millennial gray and millennial pink I had acquired between 2016 and 2020 is wild. I've slowly gotten out of that design hole thankfully. I still love gray and pink, but not so much that I want it everywhere. However, I accidentally got my parents into millennial gray and well...they're still there.
It's not that deep girlie. Millenials just grew up in ugly houses with mismatched furniture and ugly colored walls, so it's normal for them to flip to the other side first chance they got.
Yes, thats pretty much what I said in the video, millennial gray was a style born out of the desire to make their homes look more minimal than the colorful homes they grew up in :D
This color scheme has been around since 2012, it isn't ugly. It's just cold, and Institutional looking. Combined with blueish/white led lights, it reminds me of a morgue, or underground parkade.

I don't go for a "style", I go for eclectic chaos. But I find comfort in reveling in my many interests and combining it with the family past. Do whatever makes you comfortable. Don't be pressured to make choices that others would want unless you are actively anticipating selling the home in 3-5 years.

As long as you don't make design choices that would cause the next potential owners to have to fix it, could be the difference of thousands of dollars from the offers you receive if you did something only you would like.
Yes, but it would be impossible to design something that would be everyones taste. If you plan to sell your home, neutrals and high-quality materials are key that can serve as a base for anyone’s decor. New owners can always change paint colors

We're currently "crawling out of the grey hole". We bought our house in 2019 here in Austin when we were both 30. The people who lived here before us were definitely older millennials, and the house was almost exclusively either millennial grey or burnt orange (?). We've gone for a much lighter scheme, maybe not necessarily brighter - but more of a coastal boho with a spritz of modern. I'm remodeling one of the guest bathrooms right now and it's going from grey to off white with a wallpaper accent (the paint color matches the paper). We call our son little monkey and the wallpaper is monkeys in trees. The cabinets are the green from the trees with brushed gold hardware.
