How to Prep Moringa | Malunggay Leaves
Moringa Oleifera is a tree known by many names, moringa, malunggay, horseradish, drumstick, miracle and many more by different cultures. This video will show you how to prep moringa or malunggay leaves.
This tree is native to Afghanistan, India and Pakistan, according to the International Journal of Molecular Biology. It typically is found in the tropical or subtropical climates. It would be interesting to find out how it made its way to Filipino cooking and Mexican apothecary.
You can find them at Asian or Latin markets. They can be bought fresh, frozen, dried or ground up. They have many health benefits. This plant is VERY HIGH in vitamin A about 50% of the daily value for a cup, excellent for immunity, reproductive health, vision, high in Vitamin B6 - great for cognitive function, blood and immune health. It is also a good source of vitamin C, iron, riboflavin and manganese.
I have used malunggay leaves in dishes like:

Chicken Tinola / Tinolang Manok for Filipino American History Month & Hispanic Heritage Month
Переглядів 371Місяць тому
Chicken Tinola or Tinolang Manok (Tagalog, most common language spoken in the Philippines) is a ginger-based chicken soup with sayote (Tagolog) or chayote (Spanish) that packs an umami punch thanks to the the patis (Filipino fish sauce). I chose this recipe specifically to celebrate both Filipino American History and Hispanic Heritage Month. Chayote came from Mexico, it is not indigenous to the...

Welcome the transition of seasons and celebrate Whole Day for Whole Grain with this Spring Soba Noodle Salad. This recipe is balanced, filling and packed with fiber, protein, healthy fats. Also perfect for meal prepping. Soba noodles are made out of buckwheat, a gluten-free pseudo grain that is considered a whole grain. Top 5 Tips on How to Indulge and Minimize Overeating | Health Over the Holidays Series
I am of Spanish decent. I don't know what LatinX is. Are they Latin x-men? I know it can't be a neutered version of Latin because Latin is already neutered. Latin/Latino/Latina. So what on earth is LatinX supposed to be, who made this shit up?
This was great thank you so much
Thanks for watching! Enjoy the herbs!!!
Going to try your method right now. Have been using chef knife method and also don't like the wasted fruit. .... Just did it. Yep. Fave now. Really like how near zero waste! If done expertly, your fingers don't even get wet. But I had one modification: getting the membrane to tear to free the fruit was not easy (it may vary with type of grapefruit?), so I used a tiny knife to slit the membrane at the base of the fruit wedge. definitely the way to do it, no waste - especially when grapefruits are so expensive.
I plan to add amaranth to my homemade granola.
Great thank you
Did you wash it ? It’s need a wash
FINALLLLYYY IVE successfully made this dressing. thank you!!! it was pretty tedious measuring everything out. i always go by eye. but this is perfect
@@astroknotty Yessss! I see you know the struggle. I had to share this MOC recipe as a big thank you b/c I could never get it just right. Thanks for watching!
Has anyone used a rice cooker to make this?
I like with more ginger
15 minutes for how to cut a mango??😂
Lot of negative comments... Thanks for taking time to experiment with something new and show others!
When she was cutting the grid and holding the mango underneath I was holding my breath. I would probably do the grid with the mango on the cutting board.
Wtf ... showing the first method literally everyone is using the first time he has a grapefruit or Pomelo in his hands 🎉 thank you
I'm so gonna do this today, thanks for the quick video
Thanks for watching and finding the video helpful! How did it go?
I’ve tried many recipe for this dressing, but Nami's is phenomenally delicious. It’s absolutely. the best I would encourage people who are going to try this to be very accurate with their use of a scale and follow the amounts scrupulously. It’s so easy to use too much of any ingredient. I added black sesame seed which I've had served to me with it as Japanese restaurants.
Hi Isabel, Thanks for watching! I'm so glad you agree 🙂 You bring up a very good point, "It's so easy to use too much of any ingredient". Oooh I like that extra visual touch with the black sesame seeds.
@@kalahealthandwellness Glad you liked the comment. Although my black sesame seeds have been in the freezer for several YEARS they still add a lot of flavor, .
@@isabel95 Way to go refrigeration!
It should be so healthy but the taste is uhmm not that nice
Thanks for watching and commenting! What kind of dish are you having it with? For me, when eaten raw it’s not great, but in broths, soups, stews it’s delish.
My mum used to braise leaves with lots of onion, tomato and garlic. The taste is wonderful..also can be sauted with garic onion tomatoes red chilles and added to dhall
@@cillamannie909 That sounds absolutely scrumptious!!! I will try to make it that way. Would this recipe work for freshly frozen bunch?
Thank you! i added raisins to the stovetop cooking pot👍 (I add raisins to boiling lentils too, btw!)
Btw: try adding dark cherry KEFIR into the COOKED buckwheat (yummy!)🌟
Thank you for watching & commenting! That sounds delish I’m going to do that next week because I’ll have leftovers from my haul of raisins for my workshop. Thank YOU for suggesting! What’s your inspiration for adding raisins to lentils?
@@kalahealthandwellness I honestly do not remember how I started doing that except that I love dark, organic raisins and love lentils. The raisins use up any surplus water raisins cooked in by plumping up; they also add a nice sweetness to the grain of lentil. (I never use red lentils, and never Golden raisins, btw) When the lentil/plumped raisin compote is still warm, I pour cold Black cherry kefir over it (blueberry yogurt tastes great too)-- makes it a very smooth, complex of textures, flavors & temperatures -- without adding any oil! I make a big pot of lentils w dark raisins at least twice each month... It will last a few days, each time: If you refrigerate or freeze any leftovers ...just be sure NOT to add the dairy until ready to eat it. High protein/high fiber/ high iron/zero fat and great flavor. It is nutritionally wonderful and still affordable to prepare - Thank you for your questions!!!
Looks great
Thanks so much for watching! I hope you do try it. It's so worth getting a food scale not just for this recipe, but for other things like making a healthy plate of charcuterie for one, you can weigh the cheese and meats. Have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you for showing how to peel a grapefruit without knife and spoon. I did exactly what you said and it’s so simple and easy. Tell your auntie thank you too.🙋🏼♀️💖❤️🔥
Howdy! Thank you for watching and subscribing 😍 AND trying this technique! Glad you tried and witnessed how much more fruit flesh you get! Yes, I will pass on your appreciation to my Auntie/Tita 🤎
I'm trying it Saturday!
Yay! Have fun 🎉
n8ce food sis
Salamat po! Kayo po din.
Just an fyi - you can use a dish or bowl on your scale to hold your vegetables- just tare it out to zero.
Thanks for watching 🙂Absolutely! For me, I like to save on using dishes, less to wash.
yummy
Salamat, Gracias, Thank you. Please try to make it and let me know how it goes!
Welcome back!!! Great video!!
Thanks, salamat, gracias for watching Claudia. I hope you learned a little more about my culture through this dish.
tq!
You are most welcome. Thank you so much for watching and commenting 😍
Thanks' for the info. Would Black rice be the same?
I wonder if the same process and measurements would work for white rice. I know brown rice is healthier (except for its increased arsenic), but I dislike it.
try to stick with sprouted pumpkin seeds, easier on ur gut, healthier too
music way too loud, couldn't hear your dialog, also thought you would share ways to use it
I love your method, thank you for sharing it!
I just made it the first time by soaking it in plain water overnight. I was going to drain and rinse the next day, but since I didn’t have cheese cloth, I just cooked it in the soaking water for 20 min. It cooked down into a cream of wheat like texture. I ate it with fresh butter I made from cream and it was delicious. Is it better to drain the soaking water, or do you loose nutrients?
I see what you mean 👌
Thank you for this info!
What does it taste like?
Brown rice
For your face is sabor?
No this is not whole food Bajri millet it darker in the appearence sorei❤
Thank you
Hi Kala, can we soak the fsrro overnight n cook the nxt day. Can it save the cooking time.?
Thank you for such a clear and concise video! I am new to growing basil and parsley and didn’t know how I was going to clean and store the bounty that my two plants are producing. This was very helpful!! 🌱🌿
Just so you know you can use the stems (and this also goes for hearty stems like rosemary, thyme, sage, and basil) throw into your vegetable stock mix, or stuff inside chicken during roasting or even make a healthy Tea or blend for sauce. Just FYI also growing herbs yourself instead of store bought eliminates the process of losing nutrients from all the time it takes to get from farm to grocery stores so Nutritional value and benefits of them is still present. I recommend you start a herb garden on your kitchen window seal or somewhere they can thrive and always have organic fresh herbs. Happy Healthy Life.👍
Thanks for the knowledge. I lost this skill and I ended up doing three pineapples after watching this! 👍👍😁🇺🇸
This video had nothing to with health or with cooking! Where are the "3 ways"?? How long the buckwheat cooks is the least important thought about it. Why not share how buckwheat is delicious and high in nutrition? It can be used in so many sweet or savory dishes!
Music background is annoying & loud
Thank you for sharing your technique! I just peeled two grapefruits using your method. Before I learned your method, I was losing so much of the fruit with my method. As you mention in the video, I didn't lose a lot of the juice peeling with my hands only ... and I love the juice. Again, thank you very much!
Mostly all Indian stores carry it. Called Rajgira.
Thanks so much for the video! I’m a new subscriber!🎉
Thanks so much for watching and subscribing Patricia!
Thanks for the recipes, but your music is too loud.
Most of the her grain didn't pop, she burnt half of it, I can do much better than her, with my method 99% of the grain pops, she doesn't know what she is doing
Just used this, first pineapple dissection - worked great thank you.
This salad seems good for health. Nice Video
