    I think this car has made its way on to autotrader UK website. Looks great and has added decals on the side, if you are the previous owner, where did you get the turbo side decals that are now present on the car. Great video and sad to see you parted ways with it

    I was able to find P600's for my 89 XJS. Completed my 10 year restoration and wanted the 235. Found them here in the States and had to pay (Kings) your ransom for them. I'll try them, good to know there are alternatives. Thank You for taking the time to make this video. Have a TR6 also. Brits make fun cars. Now for that E-Type.

    I notice that the engine is a cross flow hemi head Renault 16TS or even later Renault 17 engine. These were never installed in the Europa by Lotus. It's the better engine and easily as powerful as the Lotus engineered Ford based Twin Cam engines. Which transmission has been installed in the car? I'll be interested to see what horse power the installed engine produces when the 'restoration' is finished.

      Thanks Philip. This engine is the original Renault 807, 2nd generation R16 power unit that was supplied to Lotus for the Europa run. Unlike the first R16 engine (1470 cc) the 2nd R16 (1,565cc) was a cross flow unit. We have done considerable research on this car as considering the historical importance of this particular Lotus it’s vital we get it absolutely correct for the restoration. Lotus have confirmed that this is a matching numbers car, as have the Lotus Europa register. During the engine strip down we noticed that the engine has been ported and flowed which we believe may have been requested by Jackie Oliver as Colin Chapman gave the car to him for his use whilst replacing Jim Clark in the F1 team. We have written to Jackie Oliver and whilst he remembers the car he’s not sure if he requested any engine work or not. Thanks for your interest!

    Great video, and car! I've heard a lot about 'light feeling front ends' at high speed (over 120mph), i take it this is inherent in all 911 models seeing as the engine is at the back?

    Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in EU :-( In Germany the Green party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated peoples gas station per city. From 2027 on the will even stop the production and the import of certain car parts as exhaust systems, catalysts and even stop selling car lubricants.

    • @timjeffreys
      @timjeffreys 3 роки тому

      Nonsense. The availability of new purely fossil fuel vehicles will cease from 2030, but fossil fuel itself will be widely available for decades after that. In addition Siemens and Porsche are in the advanced stages of developing a synthetic fuel which develops less than 15% of current fossil fuel emissions which will guarantee fossil fuel vehicles stay on our roads for the generations to come.

      Thanks Peter. This is actually the first RHD Europa, made for Colin Chapman who drove it before giving to F1 driver Jackie Oliver, who replaced Jim Clark in the Lotus F1 team after Clark's untimely death in April 1968. This car was registered for Colin Chapman less than three weeks after Clarks death and subsequently became the first Lotus to wear the Lotus Black badge in memoriam. It was also the first Lotus road car to wear the Gold Leaf Team Lotus livery, so a lot of firsts for this car, all support by the provenance documents from Lotus themselves.

      That’s the beauty of the Mezger engine that the 996 & 997 TT both benefit from. Bulletproof engines and highly tuneable to well over 700 BHP, 1,000 in the case of the 9ff.

      Yah and Im really starting to like the look of the 996 lately after disliking it for so many years and you can get a 996 TT a fair amount cheaper than the 997s (still think the 997 a bit better looking in the more classic Porsche way). Might be time to swoop on a 996 turbo as the market may be bottoming out (or already on the way up).

    I have a "G" Reg XJS Coupe with a Straight 6 and 3,600 cc on Fuel Injection. I always get 30+ miles per gallon for the 16 years that it has been my daily ride. The engine was designed to do 300,000 miles and mine hasn't done nearly a third of this, just run in. You are right that it defies the Laws of Physics, cross-winds which causes bridges to be closed to traffic don't touch this car, the wind folding around the aerodynamic body. In traffic it is as nimple as a Mini. I was going up the M6 one day, when I was cut up by three lorries. Above 50 the XJS does not use the 4 speed auto gearbox, it drives straight through to the back axle, but....... doing 70 and feeling hemmed in, the only escape was forward. I hit the Kickdown on the accelerator and in a couple of seconds I had excaped the crush. I looked down and saw I was doing 120+, no problem, it will do 145 and mine still has the factory oil pressure at 31 Years old. These Jaguars are designed to be the ultimate in Grand Touring. One day, I drove home from Seahouses (near Lindisfarne) to Harlow where I live. I pulled up at my local Co-op, for some milk, and realised I had not felt like stretching my legs in 350 miles non-stop. Why buy a 5 litre Gas Guzzler? The top speed difference can be counted on one hand, and the 3,600cc acceleration dries your mouth. Do NOT hit the Kickdown unless you have at least a mile clear in front of you
