I slightly disagree with the fan and the lashes scene because I think he had every confidence that she could do that because he’s only seen her realistically interact with him all members of his family where she is her true self her confidence self he hasn’t seen her interacting with other members of the time so he doesn’t know what she’s like with people she doesn’t really know. Also, I’ve noticed something when he’s on the cusp of a big realisation such as Violet telling him Penelope is getting a proposal tonight and the letters that say actually know she’s a lady bus down have the same voice here is wearing the same shirt but it is button down and it is loose and it’s almost like this is him at his most open-mindedness where he’s not dressing to impresssociety and having that mask of society rules although to be honest with the books obviously it implies that they’ve been friends for so long people just overlook them because realistically they should’ve been married a long time ago
