    Does the hairspray gum up your needle at all?

    • @fulllinestencilbyhancycrea9939
      @fulllinestencilbyhancycrea9939 6 місяців тому

      Thanks for the question. It didn't gum up the needle at all for me. I don't put that much on, and it quickly evaporates holding the chalk in place in the process. I also think when you press the stencil to help the hairspray keep it from moving, after you lift it off, any residue from excess hairspray is now on the stencil. That residue can be cleaned off easily should it become an issue. I've not seen that with the hairspray, but I have seen it when I've used stronger adhesives like basting sprays.

      Hi there, I've been using this method for a couple of years now. I've never had any type of build up on the longarm needle or the fabric. I use a lint brush after quilting and the Chalk comes right off with lint brush, but doesn't bounce off with hopper foot on longarm. You can always wash the quilt after binding it, and the ultimate irons off also

      In the case of that particular quilt, I did nothing by way of removing chalk or hairspray. It wasn't necessary. If it was, washing the quilt or ironing of the chalk would work. The hairspray has long evaporated. I noticed no residue from it

    Is there a trick to not making a mess when refilling? You did a good job but I have not had success not making a lot of dust…sad to say.

    • @fulllinestencilbyhancycrea9939
      @fulllinestencilbyhancycrea9939 7 місяців тому

      I think if there is any trick, it would be that you fold the bag in the center of the ziplock. Don't try to pour it from the end. It's hard to explain, but if you watch the video again at 2:26 minutes, watch closely, and you'll see. If I were to pour from the cut of the zipper the chalk doesn't flow as well and could get hung up and then suddenly come out in a large clump rather than a steady stream that you can control easier. I hope this makes sense! Some people also have told me they use a spoon; that might be a method worth trying, too. Thanks for the question!

    If use basting spray/hairspray, then chalking stencil, does iron still remove iron-off chalk? Also, if using this method, any problems with stickiness remaining on quilt needle/iron? Definitely see using method as a game changer! Thanks for sharing!

    • @fulllinestencilbyhancycrea9939
      @fulllinestencilbyhancycrea9939 9 місяців тому

      I'm not sure I can say across the board there won't be any stickiness, especially with basting sprays. I've tried several different brands of basting spray though and have yet to see it as an issue. There was a bit of tackiness once but it actually helped my gloves grip the fabric even better so I saw it as a plus. And washing it removed all residue. As for ironing off the chalk when using the basting spray, I don't know if it will be okay. The iron-off chalk stays on so nicely that I haven't tried using the basting spray with it. I have used hairspray, though and you can iron off the chalk when you use it. Make sure it's dry by the time you iron. That's how it's always been for me so I can't speak to ironing over damp hairspray. I would avoid it. It is a game changer for the color chalk for sure, and they are the ones that could use that extra adhesion so it's a perfect match! Thanks for the question!

    What heat setting is used on the iron?

    • @fulllinestencilbyhancycrea9939
      @fulllinestencilbyhancycrea9939 Рік тому

      Set your iron to a medium heat setting. I've used it at a linen setting before but it can be too hot on that setting. Something below cotton is about right, you can always turn it up if you need to. Irons vary, just stay away from a very high setting and keep your iron moving.

      I appreciate that suggestion. I'm thinking, what do I have coming up? hmmm I have my quilt about done that has 29 pieces per 9" block, multi-color, but a lot of the background is white. It could be a good candidate. If not, I will get something together because I agree, that it would be very beneficial. You might check out the quilt I have a video of in the meantime ua-cam.com/video/AGFxSO_zFKE/v-deo.html it's very multicolored but not an intense patchwork of quilting. Have you seen it?

    Did you change feet to do ruler work?

    • @fulllinestencilbyhancycrea9939
      @fulllinestencilbyhancycrea9939 2 роки тому

      I did not. I thought about it afterward. I think it would be safer to get that thicker foot on. That was the first time I used a ruler on that machine. It's one I have for my long arm. I never thought I was in danger of hitting the ruler although I'm sure it could happen. My scariest moments were a few times when I put it right up next to the needle and caught myself! Kind of like putting the ruler right next to the blade of your rotary cutter - seemed intuitively correct. Next time I'm going to change to a different foot. Thanks for writing, it was a good question.

      Purple? Orange? Darker grey? I love how the light chalks show up on the batiks; I just don’t use batiks, not my thing. Need colors that show up equally well on light/dark since most people I would think use quite a bit of contrast in their quilt blocks. Having the pencils in different colors would help too since I often have to go and redraw where the chalk doesn’t show up with a Sewline watersoluble pen.

    • @fulllinestencilbyhancycrea9939
      @fulllinestencilbyhancycrea9939 2 роки тому

      I like the darker grey idea and have played around with it. I will revisit where I left off. Purple would be too close to the blue and orange scares me because the yellow in it. Yellow is notorious for staining. Thanks for the suggestions and sorry for such a late reply I need to look at my notification settings.
