By the time I was 13, I was able to get my hands on the Jason and Freddy movies. I think I waited until my later teen years to watch the original Halloween. At the time, it felt more like homework so I could watch the later installments. Great pod as always.

With this movie, there was an outrage where parents complained how it was not for kids. Oprah kid specifically complained about penguin’s spittle.

With all due respect (so please don't get offended. I said WITH ALL DUE RESPECT), forget your opinion about this film, which you're entitled to, but you really DON'T get this film. No doubt you'll get pissy with your response but hopefully you'll prove me wrong and engage in good faith with my criticisms. Firstly, The Mayor of Gotham City ISN'T a liberal. The Mayor he replaced was a Democrat and actually modelled after Ed Koch, but his replacement couldn't be WASPier, and back in the day, the GOP was the party of wealthy WASPs, much like the Mayor in the film. By contrast, The Penguin, who you WRONGLY liken to Trump (oh, how I long for the day when we all stop talking about Trump, not just because I hate his politics, which I do, but because my fellow liberals are SOOOO fucking boring when all they ever want to speak about is Trump; as much as I DESPISE MAGA, they're not entirely wrong about Trump Derangement Syndrome, are they? But prove them, and me, wrong. Quit talking about Trump and give inserting him into EVERY FUCKING CONVERSATION a rest for a single goddamn minute) is a pale, poor, homeless, abused sewer-dweller who was abandoned by his abusive parents as an infant. He wants to end global warming (you keep attacking the dialogue but *with all due respect* it appears you weren't paying any attention) and is the only person in Gotham who actually realises Max is polluting the city and that his buildings are all firetraps. The incumbant Mayor, who clearly only got into power thanks to people like Max, doesn't seem to give a shit. He just doesn't want another power-plant. The Penguin is deformed, disabled, poor, homeless, and is allies with a bunch of homeless and diverse carnies who wear red triangles (the symbol assigned by the NAZIS to their political enemies. Seem like the 'bad guys' or Republicans to you?!?) He also depises Anglo-Saxon white Christian conformity (as represented by Christmas, the season he derides). Think I'm bullshitting? Danny DeVito specifically said that "The Penguin could have been another Einstein". Sound like Trump to you?!? I can refer you to the quote, if you're interested (but something tells me that you're not going to want to reasonably engage with my criticisms, and that you'll either ignore me, or get nasty with me. But *with all due respect* please prove me wrong). As an aside, Harvey Dent was never meant to be the original basis for Max Shreck. That's a myth that's been debunked several times. It's not a biggie for me, because if anything it makes your argument that Shreck is supposed to be Trump even more absurd. If Trump = Shreck = Dent, how do you explain that Harvey Dent is portrayed in the first film as a Black liberal Democrat with no indiciation he's particularly corrupt or self-serving? The TRUE Trump analogues in the film are Chip Shreck (NOT the highly intelligent and SELF-MADE, thin, pale and gaunt Max) and the Mayor with whom you wrongly sympathise. Chip is spoiled, stupid, pampered, entitled, blond and tanned, much like the real Trump. He's the ultimate Man of Privilege, something that cannot be said of the abused and mistreated Oswald/Penguin or the self-made and clever Max. Likewise, the Mayor is a bland, hollow symbol of WASP privilege much like most Republicans. He's corrupt in that he's been aligned with Max for so long, his words are hollow, he's clearly wealthy, and he's complacent. He also ousted a Jewish Democrat Mayor, and in view of Harvey Dent's absence, presumably is at odds with the Black liberal D.A., assuming Dent is still D.A. Chip and the Mayor are the embodiments of rich WASP pretty boy privilege. *With all due respect* stop shitting on the physically unfortunate, like Penguin, and the thin and gaunt, like Max, and focus on these tanned, smug himbos with their trust funds and lazy, casual, complacent attitudes. No doubt you'll label me an incel for attacking the pretty, but I feel solidarity with ugly and homely women too (if anything, they're treated even worse than ugly and homely men). This isn't a gender/sex issue. This is about standing beside the poor and unpopular against the PRIVILEGED, something I wish liberals would return to, as they did back in the 80s and 90s before that 'charming' sex-offending/rapist Clinton turned the DNC into a pathetic pale imitation of the GOP and tried pandering to the 'cool kids' vote. *With all due respect* look back at your history, instead of smugly puttng down Boomers and Gen Xers. You might learn something. Also, final point, I don't know what generation you belong to, maybe you're Millennials, maybe you're Generation Z, but the Great Depression happened in 1929, not the 1960s. In view of your generations' apparent ignorance (and I don't mean that to be rude or confrontational. I'm simply pointing out a FACT, however upsetting it may be), why should we take anything you say seriously? I'm as anti-Trump as anyone. I've hated the man probably before you two were even born (certainly before the Clintons and the DNC, of which he was once a member/donor, hated him...), but when ignorant and uneducated people speak on the behalf of libs like me, it makes us all look like idiots, and just saying "MAGA/Trump are even dumber" doesn't cut it. We have to raise our standards rather than use their lower standards as a crutch. Anyway, it's besides the point. I despise Trump. You presumably do. Hopefully, Harris will win the election (which will be great on a symbolic level, being a Black woman, as much as its essential on a political and practical level in view of what another Trump administration threatens). All I *reasonably* ask if if you are going to insert Trump into this topic, you do your homework first and understand who the true Trump analogues are, and *with all due respect* stop simping for people like the CLEARLY Republican/non-liberal Mayor (tbf, you *do* despise Chip, but you still fail to realise he's the REAL Trump analogue), and understand that The Penguin, for all his unfortunate behaviour, is actually fighting *against* the rich, white, privileged, powerful, Christian supremacist establishment, rather than fighting for it, and that Max, as slimy and abhorrent as he may be, is still FAR smarter than Trump and FAR thinner and more self-disciplined, as well as an example of a genuine self-made man, something chubby rich boy Trump with his daddy's business connections and inheritance, has never been.

I have not seen Near Dark, but after hearing the ending; I must decline. If a blood transfusion cures vampirism, then you can game the system. Just make sure at least one in the group is a vampire to turn you back when you want to vamp. It does not even age you when you get the cure. I have no words for that choice in the story writing. <tangent> Anthony Hopkins is 86 years old. Maybe somewhat off-topic, but this is something that is affecting the whole economy. Sorry to say, but the longer the elderly stay in the workforce, the less opportunity there is for younger generations. It is not a zero-sum game, but it does make a real impact. I think our society has integrated self-worth with our careers so much that it becomes hard to retire (especially when you are still able bodied). Also, if you do not have savings for retirement, and need to work, that is fair... and unfortunate. But if you can retire in reasonable comfort, but don't know what to do; find volunteer work. Get involved in something you care about. Or travel and see the world. No one at "insert job/company here" needs only you to do the job. The path to career advancement is a much longer road now because opportunity is being held up by people way past retirement age. </tangent>

This is one that did not keep my attention. I know it is hard to make a Dracula movie that is not somewhat predictable... well, maybe that is a sign to not make them unless you plan to bring something new to the table. And everything CGI has been done, so they will need to dig deeper to do something here that has not already been done better.

You should watch the M4 Hobbit Book Edit if you want a great version of The Hobbit trilogy. M4 and his team digitally omitted characters and digitally altered scenes so professionally! The M4 edit is absolutely the best Hobbit fan edit to date and is the most faithful to the spirit of J.R.R. Tolkien. Also, the editor of the Tolkien edit used bootleg DVDs for his fan edit back in 2014, and it's pretty outdated.

I was pondering it and I thought that the choice of Pink Flyod's The Dark Side of the Moon was a play on words, since Muad'dib Paul's public moniker, was the name of the second moon of Arrakis, and a stealthy mouse. Thematically it felt like a foreshadowing of the conflict ahead, the line "But the sun is eclipsed by the moon", in particular ties to the relationships of the central characters. The harsh and unforgiving sun seems to reflect the Harkonnen's rulership and also ties into the imagery of the Imperial sunburst I saw on thrones and the golden lions of house Corrino. The front image of the movie also has the eclipse, embodying the symbols of Muad'dib defying the light and supremacy of the Empire itself. Love the analysis you provided, so much food for thought!
