Seems to me like youd like Genshin the most although I am stoked you love Warframe (best game, best story). Genshin has an interesting story too and it can got to dark places, but the vibes of gameplay are more casual (along with limited resources each day to upgrade your characters). Warframe is... the adhd game. With a soul crushing story about what it means to be human. :) You also dont need to spend money on it since you can trade with others super easy. Both are games you can pick up after long breaks and play basically without other player interaction. Destiny is a free to try, not a free to play, unfortunately.
I'll probably return to Genshin eventually just to play with friends but I'm really digging Warframe right now! I'm trying not to rush myself too much but after getting to Venus, I want to see what's going on on each planet so bad! And yeah, after looking into the way each of these games entice you to spend money, Warframe does seem like the most welcoming one for someone who wants to spend nothing.
Genshin is trash wuwa better
if you continue destiny i highly recommend using a key site like cd keys to get the dlc
Warframe has aLOT to give, I'd highly recommend it over Destiny as there's more to do and the community is alot more casual about it. Destiny is a bit more... toxic when it comes to raids and harder content. Plus, you need to pay for nearly every expansion to really get anything done since destiny power-creeps itself nearly every other year.
My limited interactions with the Warframe community so far have definitely given me the impression that it's very laid-back and welcoming, which is great. Honestly, if I had played it before Destiny in my little line-up, I probably would have been less impressed with the latter lol.
Really good video! Please stay away from Destiny 2. I promise life is better without it's grip on your soul
Disregard the warning. Probably my game of all time, but yes, it is not super respectful of your time.
@@willl5659 It's a good game. I won't lie. I have been playing the franchise since 2014. It just has alot of issues and Bungie is going through hell xd but it is a good game. I wouldn't blame you for playing it
have an extra pre-alpha key for Soulframe if you want it.
Nice video! I'm a total addict for these types of games and have been for a long time, so it's interesting seeing the perspective of someone who's just dipping their toes in. I hope someone gets you a bigger hard drive for christmas!
Man you're so underrated, good video 🙏 i also don't almost ever play online games so it was very nice to see this
Gameplay changes didn't suprise me , since they love to change things up each entry. Hell yeah to drop kicks! Was bummed out with the dialouge wheel changes, and how sanded down the world was. You definitely gave a proper perspective on why Rooks demeanor is the way it is. Makes much more sense now!
simple, it was made for you😅
The Virgin Rook vs The Chad Inquisitor.
I find it hard to believe anyone like the dark fantasy part of the series would enjoy that this game turned it into something from the Disney channel.
There is still a decent amount of unsettling and gross stuff in this game but I do agree it feels more sanitized and hopeful than the previous entries. I love Origins but I personally don't love it BECAUSE of its darker elements, I just like the story, world, and characters overall? So the shift in tone isn't a sticking point for me.
We also couldn't ask the characters about their backgrounds, like their region, their culture, the faction they were part of, which severely reduced the world building for me. I wanted to ask them all about it, just like in Inquisition ☹️ They all felt underwritten to me which hurt my ability to bond with them. And I haven't seen all the romances yet, but my reaction to the two I've seen so far was: ....that's it??? Where are the rest of the scenes?? 🫠😵💫😢 I felt like you in wanting more from the companions. I liked them, I liked their concepts, I just think they needed more depth to really feel that connection with them. And the fact that Rook kept going on about them being a family and a team when I felt so alienated from them was jarring. I don't hate the game and in fact like many things about it, I am here on your video because I wanted to hear from others who are capable of both appreciating it and critiquing it without vitriol! So thanks for providing that 😊🙏
Rook didn't really work for me precisely because of the aspects you chatted about early on in this video. I was struggling to feel immersed, because I just kept wondering why exactly was Rook so completely dedicated to be there as the head of this fight??? As you say, every other protagonist had a strong element of "no choice but to do so", and you could react to this lack of choice in the situation they had landed in with fear, resentment, courage, friendship, assholery, etc, even in Inquisition, which I know for many people felt more restrictive in roleplaying. But Rook? Never seems to wrestle with this momumental choice they are actively making, to stay the world's saviour even though they absolutely could step away ay any moment. On top of that they are always absolutely awesome at therapy skills and are always being the perfect leader to their group. And the explanation for this is......??? I guess I have to accept that Rook is just that amazing and good and outstanding of a person. Which, okay, that's the choice the writers made, that's the character they wrote. But it severely weakens the character for me, resulting in me feeling overall very disconnected from Rook.
Yeah, I would have loved to see Rook grapple with the whole situation more. Some brooding self-doubt against the impossible odds, at least. I feel like they tried to prime you with the idea that Rook is by nature a pragmatic do-gooder since all of the faction backstories boil down to "Rook disregarded orders from their superior to Do The Right Thing" but it needed to be fleshed out a lot more. Now that I think about it, this game maybe could have benefited from, if not a playable portion, at least a montage like the one with V and Jackie in Cyberpunk giving us more indication of what Rook and Varric have been through together and their bond. You can poke around the notes in the codex and put together that they've been travelling/working together for like 6 months to a year? But that's easily missed information. I, the person holding the controller, would do anything to finish Varric's job and impress him because I've known him for 2 video games but why does Rook?
This is a great review. I think your selling yourself short in thinking you're not analytical enough. You certainly garnered more views than you thought. Its crazy that people get upset at your enjoyment of this game. Like they are trying to bully you, someone they don't know, into thinking exactly like they do. I am going to wait for a sale I think on this one. I think I will really enjoy the combat snd gear in particular. Anyway, good job on your random late night voicemail review. I enjoyed it.
That's kind of you to say, thank you. <3 I definitely would encourage anyone on the fence about to wait until it goes on sale! I almost never pay full price and play games at launch myself but this was one of my special exceptions.
I had and still have so much fun playing this game. And I’m aware of the shortcomings it has. The writing is…not that good. Sometimes things happen offscreen or never at all which leaves glaring holes in the story. There was never a surprise for me. But I’m happy that it got a release. This game struggled a lot during development. I also wanted to see where the inquisitor ended up after their game. But her ending in Veilguard disappointed me. I chose the neutral ending as my canon one because she had no self respect after ten years running after Solas and he didn’t even mention her to Rook once. I had really fun playing as Rook and fighting as a rogue was dynamic. There is much that I like but that doesn’t mean I would recommend it as best game of the year.
Out of the 4, I think this is the Weakest. But I will say I had fun playing this. I don’t think I connected with my Rook like I did with Warden commander or inquisitor. The companions here didn’t hit well with me compared to the inquisition, or even Awakening Anders lol. I play on nightmare and it’s a mess as far as UI screen and induced seizure flashing explosions lol. My biggest gripe is the “spicy” romance. Even my wife yelled from the living room “that’s it?!” Overall, I’d give it maybe a 7. Edit: Also to add, that bit when you said that it feels like content is missing, apparently the art book or scrap book shows a lot of stuff that looks like it was either taken out or they just ran out of time and couldn’t put it in which sucks. It feels like the game was actually in development for only a few years since BioWare was having issues after Anthem failure.
Yeah, I think I agree. Except I might put Veilguard in a tie with DA2 for my personal ranking. Just because the endless waves of spawning enemies make DA2 feel like such a slog to me, even though I do think the writing and characters are stronger in that game. I immediately turned off most of the UI and combat indicators before playing but I'm kind of curious to turn them back to defaults and see what a mess it is lol.
watched all 44 minutes and you forgot to share your thoughts about Morrigan 😠 (very enjoyable to listen to btw)
Oops! Basically the same critique as the other characters - I wish there was more content with her! I would love to get a short story or something in the future fleshing out her journey after finding out what happened to Flemeth and so forth since we basically got the Cliffs Notes version in game. Also a bit disappointed they just hand waved away the whole Well of Sorrows thing, tbh.
I believe that the most of the shortcomings of this game comes from EA executives meddling with the development process. Just a small example, Bioware fired Mary Kirby (who is a veteran-level writer in DA games and wrote Lucanis) mid-development when the game was still called Dreadwolf, and when you look at the artbook of the Veilguard they had so many ideas for Lucanis's romance. This and many more were cut but they didn't put anything to fill the vacant spots. Looking at the artbook pages feels like torture at times. I think that the executives wanted to sanitize the game to sell more, basically, because when you look at what the developers who had worked in this game, you see them complain about this issue. I still enjoyed the game overall, it wasn't perfect but it also wasn't the disaster people claim it to be. Most of those people want this game to be a failure SO MUCH and their problem is just that the game has queer elements. Shocker, a DA that game has queer elements, unheard of. It's almost as if the creator of DA setting is the openly gay David Gaider who had been putting such elements in the games from the very beginning. Personally, I don't take anyone's opinion about this game seriously if they did not play it more than 15-20 hours. Listening or reading reviews of it is not the same as playing a game. People who parrot the same uninformed hate is just pathetic. I think that this game is like a cake that needed to stay in the oven just a little more, and maybe EA executives could've been locked out of the kitchen while preparing it. I guess we should be grateful that at least it's not a multiplayer game (of has Hinterlands)
Yeah, totally. I loosely followed the news surrounding the game during development and it sounds like a bit of a nightmare. When that big round of layoffs including Mary Kirby happened, I was so sure the game was dead in the water. From the original direction of the game presumably being scrapped under the pressure to make it a live-service multiplayer, and then EA suddenly realizing that there is, in fact, still a large market for single-player games, and then re-molding what they were working on once again, without a large portion of the original team? It probably won't happen but man, I'd love to see a behind the scenes doc about what went on at Bioware these past 8 years. I'm really looking forward to checking out the art book though! For all the game's quirks and faults, I just can't bring myself to be cynical about it. I just know that so many artists, writers, animators, etc worked so hard to make the best of what they could, given the circumstances. Like you said, the cake needed longer in the oven but I highly doubt EA, and other factors, were willing or able to allow for that.
My view is that a 5/10 or 6/10 game is a disaster when it comes from BioWare with a price tag of $70. If this was a rookie studio charging $30 the same reaction over the same game would be absurd. And I think I am over the idea that the publisher and suits are always to blame. It’s nice to believe that, but I think the real issue comes down to leadership and vision, which includes resistance to the inevitable short sited greed of the suits. I think it's clear the culture of modern western game developer studios resent strong leadership. We have a lot of great journalism and lesser sources that provide insight to the happenings within bioware for the last decade. I think this will he happening A LOT with giant AAA corporate studios under umbrella publishers. I watched a video from a trans creator highlighting that the representation in DaV is horrible, and an immature step down from previous entries, I’ll come back and refer the UA-camr if I can find them. The issue isn’t gay characters, it’s how they’re handled. I’ll point you to BG3, and in terms of other wildly successful media with gay characters and minimal backlash, to Arcane. It’s clear with these examples the root issue isn’t culture war fueled bigotry. Does that crop up? Yes, but it’s a symptom. It’s clear when the quality of a product is high, the bigots have no air to breathe or speak. The issue is quality, bad quality allows ambiguous room for cringe culture war grifters. There is proper representation, and then there is incompetent and immature activism. DaV is the latter.
It makes total sense to me that women like this game. That they are more forgiving of the bad writing, the forced woke perspective, and the blatant 🚩 that appeared. These reviews sound like your girlfriend who’s in a really bad relationship but keeps hoping for the best. How they trade a traditional dark fantasy game for a Disney colored simplistic game on rails that doesn’t challenge us at all. How do we solve the puzzles? What puzzles? Oh! It looks pretty! Everyone is so cute and nice! A cozy walk through a desolated Ferelden. A destroyed Deep Roads. A forced woke perspective where no one challenges the fact that reality isn’t a social construct. Just do your push ups and don’t think and constantly apologize for acknowledging that sex is real. This wasn’t even a little Dragon Age. The fact that you had to take time to talk about it and give yourself time to try and explain to yourself, not us, but you, that it wasn’t that bad is the same thing as thinking your cheating boyfriend can be changed. He’s not changing. He really is that bad. And the people who made this game don’t give a frack about Dragon Age, or you. Sometimes it’s okay to walk away from a bad relationship instead of making excuses of how your perception of this game will change for the better if you just give it a chance. Spoiler alert: you’re wasting your time. He/this game really is that bad. And any real friend would tell you so.
So sorry for having fun playing a video game. :(
the problem isn't so much that a few dozen people like this woman enjoyed it, but moreso that it was only geared for the few dozen of them to have fun. Alienating the millions of people they needed to buy this game in order to sculpt it to be how they wanted it (which let's be honest this is dragon age in name only) is what will kill the franchise as a whole. A small handful of people will get enjoyment out of it at a loss of hundreds of millions of dollars for bioware, which greatly impacts the prospect of ever getting a DA game again
@@cheekyjebus5559 Yeah, it'll be interesting to wait and see what happens. The AAA gaming industry as a whole seems really unstable right now. Even though I'm a total glutton for a 60+ hour visual spectacle of a game, they're a huge financial risk and I'd much rather see studios shift to producing shorter, less monstrously expensive games in order to survive and be able to keep trying new things, rather than having to put all their eggs in one basket and hope everyone on Earth wants to eat eggs today.
@@fevercoatplaysYeah. The amount of money studios spend on making games is absurd and it makes me question where most of it goes.
I genuinely think anyone who likes this game just has low standards, is hyper specifically emotionally attached to dragon age and doesn’t want to try other objectively better things, or is trying to enjoy it out of spite because of how obnoxious the culture war critics are. I’m guessing you’re the 2nd and last one. Possibly the 3rd as well but I don’t know you so I can’t say. I haven’t played it but I have absorbed it via osmosis by listening to over a dozen reviews. I’m sad, BioWare is already dead, and it’ll be shutdown soon and it’s not a mystery why. You can’t blame bigots because a game identical in genre with diversity and gay out the wazoo just came out last year and is widely loved and celebrated and that is BG3. And how sad and ironic that the evidence against this studio and game is a Baldur’s Gate game. Full circle and all that. BioWare lost their drive and were infiltrated by people more concerned with activism than creativity. Good video. Enjoyed listening to your thoughts and this style. Glad you enjoyed it.
I mean, guilty, I guess lol. Except that other people's opinions on a game, culture warriors included, don't impact my personal experience playing. I do understand the perspective of being really disappointed if you wanted this game to be more like the previous entries in the series than what it turned out to be. Like I said, I do think a lot of the writing in this game was weak/inconsistent. But I still had a lot of fun regardless. Maybe that will change upon replaying it but for now that was my genuine experience. I do also have like 400 hours in BG3 and absolutely love it, for different reasons. I'd love to know what other games you consider objectively better. I personally don't think games as art can be objectively ranked (other than pure functionality) but anyway, I'm always looking for games to add to my wishlist!
@@fevercoatplaysAs much as I despise Veilguard, I couldn’t agree more with you on what you said about objectivity. Art cannot be simply criticized as being “objectively bad,” “objectively good,” “objectively worse,” etc. All art is subjective and even though I hate Veilguard, I can’t in any good faith call it objectively bad because that would make no sense. And good video btw. Even though I don’t like the game I think it’s good to seek out reviews offering other perspectives.
@@dostwood5103no, I respectfully disagree. When we look at how previous games utilized the same world and characters, we can indeed objectively measure how much was done with them. Look pals, I don’t have an English degree or a 30 spare hours to make a video essay dissecting how much worse Veilguard is in its writing department, but I really don’t see how you can come to another conclusion. Yes, you are “allowed” to come to another conclusion, hence subjectivity, but let’s be real… it’s just not up to the standard set by every previous entry. And that’s JUST the writing.
@@dostwood5103same here as well regarding seeking out other perspectives. It was a good video and that’s the only reason I watched it and commented on it. I sympathize with those who enjoyed Veilguard because of how toxic the discourse is, even though I am also aligned on the “hater” side. “Let people enjoy things” ok I enjoy being a hater and critical analysis lmao. Hope no one takes it personally. I just think when we accept downgrades like Skull & Bones, Starfield, Diablo 4 and Veilguard, and happily pay $70 for them and then rush to defend them as “not that bad, let people enjoy things” online, it pushes the industry in a bad direction. I don’t spend to much time worrying about it because talent always finds somewhere to be expressed like at Larian, Fromsoft, and the new Path of Exile. It’s just a shame to see the triple A kings of my childhood become glorified slop dispensers at the mandate of the common consumer. Oh well!
🤡
I share a lot of the same sentiments as you. And I even had a similar experience with the Varric thing lol. Thanks for the video it's helping me sum up my own nebulous thoughts.
thank you, i too love it, played every dragon age and yes it has it's problems but i think most of the hate is through the need of those people that want to misunderstand a lot of what is happening in the game
I'm so grateful UA-cam recommend this video to me when I woke up this morning
Only 10 minutes in but it’s so nice to finally hear someone who feels so similarly about this game. Ultimately loved it even though I have a ton of critiques too. I really wanted Inquisition part 2 but I’ve accepted this is something different that I can appreciate for what it is
I'm OBSESSED with this game. I have some criticisms too but god even despite them. The game is so good, the story, the answers I've waited all these years for. I cried so many times playing this game.
finally someones speaking what I'm thinking ! thank you for this beautiful summary of your experience ! we seem to have gone through similar motions haha they got me too, still hurts... the game isn't perfect, but I love it and am happy to see someone be able to admit that it has flaws but still recognise what a gem it is and how much love and care went into this game !
im not finished yet but Its a fabulous game.
Hold this sub tho.
"I think I'm going to redeem Solas." *Solas blows up Bianca* "End him."
It’s crazy there’s so many things they downgraded in this game I hope its story will be long.
I'm hoping it will be at least similar in length as the previous games and not shorter like the Mass Effects! (I'm greedy.)
