The Jesus and Mary Chain - Cracked (sped up)
A secret in this song has been hiding in plain sight (sound?) for decades. All it takes to find it is to speed the track up to the correct pitch. Can you hear it?
This was sourced from the original UK 12" Just Like Honey single, and digitally sped up because I didn't want to subject this record to 75RPM (1.67x speed).
Original song, for reference: ua-cam.com/video/d_00iqlWy9c/v-deo.html

Disclaimer: I don't own this music, obviously. If the Reids or their music publishers believe that this is a copyright or fair use violation, I would be happy to take this down. I'm just wanting to do interesting things with the music I love.

If you're a MBV fan, you know the song. But you've probably never heard Kevin Shields' glide guitar in all of its blissful detuned glory in isolation. Until now. NOMA - Brain Power (acoustic)
ΠΠ΅ΡΠ΅Π³Π»ΡΠ΄ΡΠ² 1 ΡΠΈΡ.3 ΡΠΎΠΊΠΈ ΡΠΎΠΌΡ
Recorded live in the basement of The Bitter End in Greenwich Village to a sold-out, standing-room-only crowd. From a review in the Village Voice: "The energy in that room was unmistakable, and people's mouths were visibly agape throughout the entire performance. You could easily argue that the show was the most dramatic they'd seen since Jeff Buckley graced the stage over 20 years ago. Upon lea...
My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow (out of phase)
ΠΠ΅ΡΠ΅Π³Π»ΡΠ΄ΡΠ² 11 ΡΠΈΡ.3 ΡΠΎΠΊΠΈ ΡΠΎΠΌΡ
What happens when you remove all of the mono/centered sound in Only Shallow? You hear things you've never heard before! Leave it to Kevin Shields and the rest of the MBV crew to make a song that sounds just as good out of phase as in. π Disclaimer: I don't own this music, obviously. I make no profit off of this, and if My Bloody Valentine or their music publishers believe that this is a copyrig...

For context, I included a few seconds of each song on either end. Source is a first pressing US vinyl with the original blue Casablanca label (NBLP 7016). Obviously I don't own the rights to this music, and if those who do would like this to Getaway, then I'll do Anything For My Baby. Just don't call me a three-time loser, even if that's all I'll ever be. Listen to other songs I'm tinkering wit...
Catherine Wheel - Heal 3 (unofficial)

This is a fan-made compilation. Catherine Wheel did not release this. But hear me out! Background: In 1995, Catherine Wheel released their third full-length album, "Happy Days". Featured on it was a bold and uncharacteristic track, "Heal" which inverted the standard arc of a song: instead of building to a climax, it slowly softens and gets quieter and ends at almost a whisper. It's by far one o...
According to Kevin himself, this was recorded with a Gretsch guitar equipped with a Bigsby, as opposed to his typical Fender Jazzmasters / Jaguars. Thanks for posting this, now I can try and recreate it with my Gretsch!
did you recreate it?
This was much better than I expected. Honestly deserves more views
this is helping me learn the rhythm chord voicings
This is how a kaleidoscope sounds like
DUDE I LOVE THAT GUITAR SM IN THIS SONG
nice
severely underrated song imo to me it's one of Loveless's highlights
nice
Love this! Is it possible to get a flac of it?
This would be great to listen to while you are dying.
cool
there is so much gating and compression...it almost sounds like a tremolo...lol
How did you do that acoustic guitar?
In terms of recording? Just a close-miked AT4040 on a Martin D-16, with a little digital reverb added in later. Nothing too fancy.
Damn is the guitar sidechained to the kick or something?? Sounds there is almost a light tremolo on the guitar perfectly in time with the song.
My guess is that the guitar is sidechained to the entire drum track. The pumps appear to happen on both the kick and the snare.
this is shotgun in mouth good (after taking to much Kokain)
Thanks! (I think.)
@@cacaophonic939 no it's really good like remind me of old songs and a bad joke tbh
Nice the internet is 5 steps ahead of me and thought of this
how th fuck they made that sound with a guitar
tremblo arm, reverse reverb, and probably a couple of other pedals
the chords to this tune are so pretty
damn this is beautiful. I'd love to hear Sometimes with different bits isolated and/or out of phase.
Thank you! If only we had the ability to get the actual stems from the original recordings. Imagine what we could do with those!
nice
So incredibly thick and trippy. Pure genius

Fun Fact: The "pulse" or "breathing" affect (not to be confused with effect) heard here is a by-product of the extreme SSL compression that was deployed throughout the mix of the entire LP. It is the singular thing that gave Loveless its particular atmospheric mojo. Fun to hear this particular sonic dislocation... thanks OP!
It's effect, not affect
Nope. Itβs affect. If you use an effect pedal, it has an affect on your tone. Ones a noun and the other is a verb
@@G.GordonMidi lol yeah exactly why it should be breathing effect. You arenβt saying the breathing is affecting blah blah blah you are saying breathing effect just like you would say the chorus effect or any other effect. You can just go online and figure this out you guys
This sound effect (not to be confused with affect) heard here is due to a side chain / ducker with the drums, not SSL compression. Compression is also extremely far down the list of things that give Loveless its particular atmospheric mojo, nobody listens to it and compliments the compressor settings.
nice
I dont like this tune very much. Id like to hear isolated Only shallow guitars
look up "only shallow out of phase"

Amazing! Absolutely amazing.
I totally agree! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

my fav song of this album tot so cool <3
nice idea!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
The Compression on that guitar is insane! Kevin is a genius, I wonder how he did this?
Well I think there's also massive side chaining the snare to the guitar so it ducks out whenever the snare hits.
@@ultrajayme I was thinking the same thing! Glad to know Iβm not insane.
@@cleaningmyroom1000 I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in that studio...holy fuck! Haha
@@ultrajayme So many wonderful Kevin urban legends about the recording of Loveless. Like his insistence that purple microphone screens sounded better than black ones.
Home of the Top House Tracks, the Daft Network
guy manuel de hanna-christo and thomas barbera
Makes since considering Guy-Man is older than Bangalter. (Ironic since Thomas is also taller than Guy-Man)
Love the high overtones that sound like a piccolo or something The notes are suspended (fourths) that keep wildly resolving to the major third in another track that sounds like a randomly changing wah wah pedal.
Shimmer reverb effect with reverse reverb gives it that time signature effect and piccolo of effect
@@ultrajayme shimmer is pitch shift + reverb, and that effect is not used on this album, nor was it ubiquitous in 1989-91 as it is today. the high notes are feedback/guitar recorded into a sampler, and then played back, transposing to different notes

I actually thought most of this album was like this until I got new speakers. My mind was fucking blown when I realized that some of the songs weren't just droning guitars layered over eachother.
Amazing
