Hmmm its not really a traditional lime mortar then
I live here beautiful place
I lived in stamford from september 2013 to june 2014. I worked as an Italian language assistant at former queen eleanor school. I was 26 and it was my first time living alone and abroad. I arrived at night by a national express coach from London (!) with my suitcases fallen apart (they were cheap :-) and I stayed for a week at a nice b&b on caserton road. The hosts were lovely, they were an elderly couple who loved italy, then I moved to zebra cottages where I lived with a middle-aged woman called Barbara. It was an unforgettable experience, and everyone was so kind and welcoming to me. I also made a good friend who still I am in contact with. I visited the place again in 2019 before the pandemic and it was as beautiful as before, the park, the river, the buildings and of course the stunning burghley house. Stamford and England in general will forever hold a special place in my heart, despite Brexit 🙂
Ditch the music.
Superb village
I live there 😂
I would love to try this mixed
Excellent little film 🏆📽️🎬
Used to live in the house dead center in the first frame :)
I grew up nearby and I really miss the market towns/countryside of Lincolnshire, especially in the winter. I hope someday I will get to move back, but I doubt it.
Is this how they did the pyramids?
Yes
Can you tile on old lime mortar
lol I was looking for videos about Stamford, Connecticut. I don't think it's as beautiful as this.
I visited and stayed in Stamford for a month during the summer of 2003 as an English student . I will never forget the lovely streets and the stunning houses and gardens .... the kind-hearted people :the Tilly family and the generous Jacksons ,I hope they are fine and wish them all the best ❤🌺💕 maybe I will come back again one day 🤲
Thicko in the green jacket cant even string a sentence together, probs to much ale

the old stone firms mix which i was taught in the early 1970s was 7 parts stone dust /sand 5parts hydrated lime 2 parts white cement.use to be like spreading butter.
Totally agree with this mix... Yall are just anal purist poncy gimps. Same kind of feckwits that think hammer drills are a no no for mortar removal. Standing there for weeks on end smashing f**k out yer wee blunt chisels thinking your right smart HAHA
what mix does Peter recommend for repointing?
I had visited this beautiful small and ancient city in the year 2010 April 19 th to 25th July 2010 when my son was posted on site job from TCS Sholinganallur , Chennai along with my spouse Janet Augustine . My son's name is Frank Noble and was working in Cummins engine project there. He worked for about 15 months there .He stayed in an apartment on Green lines road . We used to go there for shopping between 12noon and 2 p.m. for shopping and also for taking ice cream from a mobile ice cream vendor who used to park his vehicle there . We also buy a loaf of bread and throw to swans and pigeons on the lawn across a rivulet opposite Stamford Resturant .The visit was memorable one and I long to visit the place again . I am 74+yrs young .we need assistance from our two sons (1) Samuel who is in USA with his family and two girl children and (2) Frank Noble who is now a District Collector in Guna Dt. of Madhya Pradesh . We two are staying with his family .
I love Stamford....my Grandparents use to live in Ketton. Brings some very happy memories of a beautiful town. Thankyou for putting this up
It’s just a beautiful place lucky people who live there
Cement should be nowhere near an old stone wall……lime mortar only
Very beautiful!
you beauty. [ as a stamfordian i may be somewhat biased ]
I love your footage - we are getting in touch from ITV - and would love to talk to you about your footage. If so, please let me know your email address. Thanks!
Stamford probably has more old streets than Cambridge.
I live here
Thanks for the advice your 9/2/1 with white cement was perfect match
What mix would you use for ridge tiles fixing and pointing on a front door porch? Is that mix strong enough to stop them flying off in a British gale??
Is this a mix that would work with a sandstone ? Thank you for sharing your experiences with us!
Very nice
Have a good day! We are traveling with you. We would be grateful for a video about Shrussberry, flower show. Best regards, Elena, Belarus.
Amazing video! Footage, music, sequence of clips... all perfect!
Looks lovely.
Was really interested to watch this until I saw he was using white cement in the mix
Amazing snow
Nice video Stamford is beautiful
Nice pointing, shame about the addition of white cement
It's not a bad mix though. 9 sand is being very generous and sensible. It's been found that buildings with sand ratios of between 9 and 13 sand to 1 cement have done really well. The addition of the lime hydrate will mainly act as a plasticiser and there's no difference between white and grey cement but... at least it's not a 1:1:4 or 5 mix.
NHL and cement!? No never!
I used to live in Stamford and I really do miss it bc Stamford is older than my family
Lovely video of our beautiful town <3
First time it’s properly shown here in ages

Hi there. I love the video. I'm Ben, one of the vicars at St George's Church (35 seconds in!) and we are currently in the process of redesigning our website. The new website will have a video on the homepage, but until we are allowed in our building as normal to film, we are in need of a video to use in the meanwhile, and edit to add some of our own content in to. Please can we use some of the snippets from this video on our website? Please be in contact if you want more info, you'll find all our contact details on our website, just search for St George's Church, Stamford. Many thanks, Ben
Lime hydrate is brilliant. It's got a free lime content of 90% and cures by carbonation. Which takes a long time. However, adding cement sets the lime before it has a chance to carbonate. So when combining both cement and lime you introduce two competing forces. This is why houses built in the 1970s now need repointing. If you want to add cement then add Natural Roman Cement. It's more expensive but complements the lime hydrate as it doesn't compete with it and allows it to set naturally.
If i want to have this look but make it properly, would i keep the stated proportions and sub the natural cement for the white cement?
@@miguelmarquez4192 White cement has no lime in it. It's exactly the same as grey cement.
@@miguelmarquez4192 There is no natural cement in this mix. What are you talking about?
Isn't it old? I thought it was modern
The town is very historic, not in any way modern (mostly 1600s/ 1700s architecture along with plenty of medieval buildings and churches dotted throughout).
