I really want to make a blanket like that. Thanks for the inspirational idea!
@@seewaage good luck you can do it
@@McCormickLeatherandFurs Thanks! I really like the pretty liner you chose. I will probably do something like that too b/c it adds so much to the beauty of the work.
Excellent information! Thanks Deanna.
@@d.mccann9823 your welcome
Works super well! Even just the fine dust will take out the worst, I’ve used it for greasy foxes. Species like beaver and raccoondog hold on to the stuff so well you will absolutely have to blow it out. My hair dryer wasn’t strong enough so I’ll try a pet dryer
@@Orangelionfur agreed :)
Thanks for all the videos Deanna.Could you share what cleaning liquid you’re using.I read where someone used acetone in the mix and then put fur and mixture in a garbage bag tied it off and put it in a dryer on air dry for 20 minutes.I tried that and it didn’t seem to do much good. Thanks again.
Call samuel Bauer Unlimited and get their fur cleaning solution . I used PERK a drycleaner solvent its not on market anymore, you could try denatured alchol. But not Acetone. @user-kd2mv1uw3g
O K sorry it was actually mineral spirits if that makes a difference
@@user-kd2mv1uw3g denatered alchol or stuff from bauers
Super helpful! Where can you find the things to attach the tail to the keychain?
@EmptyBox68 amazon, i think i put info for it in the description
Alright. I probably didn’t see it. Thank you!
a.co/d/cfQQjTY
What did you use to stitch them?
@ryanmosley8250 i have a Bonis brand Fur machine, its a model A 16.
@McCormickLeatherandFurs ok thank you. Might be a dumb question but how would you recommend washing these if you needed?
@ryanmosley8250 you cant wash in water. Fur will shrink. You take to a furrier that cleans fur coats, its cleaned furrier method. Which is a fine dust of corncob fractions mixed with a solvent. The mixture is either hand rubbed into the fur or the item is put in a large drum ( dryer type machine) its tumbled so the dust works thru the hair the solvent mixture cleans, the grease, body oils , adhere to the dust. The dust is blown or shaken out, and fur is nice n clean. Basic description.
Thank you,very much!!!
You are welcome!
Thank you this video was fantastic!
Fur fun make a bunch
Wow ❤❤❤
Ya fun beaver pelt, great way to do any fur pillow
Le sampa
Thank you
That was a lot of work!
When it's big large blanket it is a big amount of work, when your setting up 18 pelts for a project it's almost like setting up pelts to make 18 pairs of mitts or 18 hats, the only difference is how it's cut and constructed after the pelts are wet stretched. They are a lot to manage when they get over 14 skins for me. My favorite size is the throw 6 or 8 pelts it's a very versatile size to use, and to clean if it needs cleaning.
I am planning to buy tails, but they dont come with clips. Thanks to this tut I will be able to put them on myself and know what stuff I need to do so tysm
good luck
Wow 👌 that looks so good I am going to try it Thanks 👍
Have fun!
Love your work
Thank you
@@McCormickLeatherandFurs beaver prices were good this past year.
Part 2 please! This is great. Thank you for taking the time to show how this is done.
Coming soon
Deanna, thank you for this fine series of instruction. I have watched the series several times as I am currently putting together a coyote blanket for a friend. It is my first attempt at making a blanket. It is also only my third time to work with such thin skins. I only have a Bonis “S”, which uses massive needles, in comparison to your “A” and “B” machines (I have mostly worked with much heavier skins). It gives me much bulkier seams but it is the only option I have. I think it will turn out OK even with the heavier seams. I wouldn’t have attempted this project without your instructions. Best regards.
It should be fine, even with thicker seams, good kuck
I would be interest in making a half hat block and oval shape block. Any help I would appreciate.
Carve one out of styrofoam , you can buy a Styrofoam head form , or get a similar type head , wig head might work, good luck

So awesome!!!! Thank you for making this!!!
Fantastic work!
Thanks so much its a great style hat to make
wow! have you ever tried making one of these out of marten fur? im hoping to make a pine marten trappers hat when the trapping season opens back up!
Would be lovely, you'll need 2 pelts they arent vety large, maybe 3
Deanna, 2 questions. 1) did you close the tail as it was split, or leave it open and 2) do you have any videos that show how to sew the liner in by hand? I don't have a fur machine and this will be my first hat, so I'm not sure how to stich the top part of the hat to the skin.
I think I did close the tail partially about 3 inches down from the hat edge, by hand . If hand sewing in the lining I'd turn the bottom edge of lining , you could try starting at center front sew each side part way along the edge you decided to use on the fur, when you get close to the center back leave about 4 inches at center back of lining and hat and turn the hat / lining inside out pull it thru the opening.. then smooth out your hat, tuck the lining in at the center back and slip stich closed, you could hand tack the lining at the front edge to keep it straight. and along the edge as needed in places if necessary
Thank you for these videos. I have learned so much from you. Can you show how you make pom Poms?
Look at SAGA videos on pon pons she had good technique
Do you have a link to the company where you bought those ear muff frames?
Samuel Bauer Unlimited , No Carolina, google, call order in they take phone irders
Do you have any imput about older Fers that's dryed out and getting tairs ,would you know how to rehydrate the old Fer so it doesn't tair out,?
Usually small areas can be repaired , but furs do deteroriate, get brittle, dry , will crack, rip, and not much can be done if it gets too old. Sometimes, it's better to retire it and get a new one. You might be able to hand sew the rips and apply an adhesive cloth to the back, or some try duct tape to keep together, but overall, if it's too old, it's time to replace or cut apart and use sections that may be salvageable. Good luck
Love the way you work
Thank you so much 😀
Excellent video!
Thanks, Part 2 soon :)
Great video!
Stay tuned part 2 soon :), thanks
I wonder how well an ultrasonic cleaner would work, it's frequently used to clean motor parts. I have an ultrasonic cleaner big enough to fit a bonis machine, but all my machines are pretty clean.
Fun, no idea on that i just did wha i cpuld on these
I love all your uploads. I'd like to get a fur machine eventually. Still learning for now.
Keep tuned. I'll have 3 of these for sale
Cool I just brought a used one, that will need a minor resto and a major cleaning.
This is a wonderful video! Thank you. How about using a toothbrush on the old oil?
Love toothbrush idea !!
What is the value of this older machine, motor and table?
Table w foot pedals 250. The head about 1K The motor should be replaced with a new motor, A servo motor is about 150.00, a clutch motor is probably about same cost
This is the most wonderful, helpful video! I've been trying to make a blanket and pillow from possum pelts (in NZ) and this is just the information i needed to do the job well. Can you tell me please what the name of the tape is that you put around the edge - is it cold tape? Thank you!
Yes cold tape buy at samuel bauer Unlimited, you have to call order in
no hurries no worries maybe one day can you show us are tell me how to add a fur trim to a pashmina scarf
This works well! I used to rivet the clasp on but some of the tails have bad tans and the leather won’t hold up long term. Will try these screw on caps
I got the tassel caps at amazon
thank you this really helps
Yes it work well ! If you have a broken tail you can try using cord to keep sections together, might need a few stitches but I've fixed some also
is that an a16 machine
Yes Bonis A 16 model i sew just about everything with it
Beautiful👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching , subscribe share & like 🎉
I love all your videos and am strongly considering buying a fur sewing machine. Seems it's about two grand to get one, that is (new actually). I figured I'd not get an older one that (might need work and parts).
Good luck a sewing background is helpful, new machine is a treat.
Thank you. That was fun to watch. I like to include the hackles to give the ruff a sunburst appearance.
Yes, different ways to do, im going to make a ruff using hackles in 1-inch strips on the outside edge like the sunshine ruffs that are done, by some Alaskan Native group. Just need to find time they are exquisite
Deanna have you heard good things about the Techsew machines from Canada? I'm thinking of buying a new one from them
Yes for general use the 202 is similar to a A16 Ii would not suggest the other models, I've heard too many dont like the thick sewing those do.
Hi , with this machine you can only sew form the edges right? if i have to sew a small poket in the middle of bigger leather , it cant be done. thnx for the video
Yes sews only edges of fur or leather, together
What type of oil do you use?
Factory recommends SAE 40 weight you can find on Amazon. Or some car stores. It is not 5 W40. Should be 40 weight.
I harvest my own coyotes and they are all different sizes. Will this make the process a lot harder or any different?
Faster ! coyotes are larger so you won't need as many, watch my coyote blanket video.
you can trim your coyotes to a similar size once they are all blocked giving you equal size pelts to work with.
Thanks for sharing your skills 😊
Thanks for sharing. I found it very interesting.
Even if you wet to just to get basic shape and pin to dry, they look so much better.
You are very talented
They are fun to make some take 2 days to dry
@@McCormickLeatherandFurs 👍👍👍
I've always wanted to make a rabbit fur blanket using rabbit pelts. But I don't know how to combine pelts.
So, Deanna, please clarify: The layers of the inner flap and the outer flap and the brim, etc., aren't stitched together at the end. The lining and the ribbon close up the seam there. Correct? And sewing the linings of the flaps, etc together stabilize the parts? I'm at that point now and don't want to screw it up.
You can hand tackon inside on the brim , the flaps at spots to keep those sandwiched together . But yes the ribbon is sewn only to edge of outside flap, brim and then turned to lining. Maybe watch my beaver hat video.. you don't need to add any interfacing in flaps like I did on that video.
