Walking in Umeda's Newest Area - Grand Green Osaka & KITTE Osaka (+ JR Osaka Station) 大阪 梅北 大阪駅
A late morning stroll to look at Umeda's newest areas. From JR Osaka Station's bridge concourse, out of the new West Exit on the Umekita side, to Grand Green Osaka's new park, and doubling back to KITTE Osaka. November 14, 2024, filmed in HD on a DJI Mobile.
Umeda is the biggest downtown area of Osaka, and contains Japan's 3rd busiest station, JR Osaka - apparently the 5th busiest in the world. It recently had an extension to the north, with the West Exit and Umekita Exit serving the newly renovated Umekita area (Umeda North).
In summer 2024, Umekita Park opened close to Osaka Grand Front shopping mall, in what is called Grand Green Osaka. The building which bears that name is not opening until Spring 2025, but there is a new park for Umeda visitors to enjoy.
At the same time, KITTE Osaka opened next to JR Osaka's West Exit. As well as a variety of high-grade restaurants and a theatre, KITTE has a wide variety of shops selling food and goods from specific prefectures from Okinawa to Hokkaido, and a lot in-between.
In this video you will visit:

I'll talk about the weather, when Autumn actually starts, places to see the Autumn leaves, and delicious seasona...

By popular demand, yet another quick tour of an apartment in Osaka. This time, I'm touring Daiki's latest apartment in Tajiri, Osaka prefecture. It used to be a hotel, you can see that from some of the facilities. There's not a whole lot of space, but I hope it's interesting! It's quite far from Osaka City, but it's very close to Rinku Town Outlet Mall and Kansai Airport - how much does this af...

The Mascot is a pretty strange choice for the Expo... I`ll probably buy a small one anyway (and keep that in the bag to keep the value :-D) I want to visit on the 10th of September and can`t buy tickets yet, have to wait a while still. But looking forward to that little highlight in "Next Years 30days of Japan Tour"^^
Thanks for the comment! I don’t think the tickets should be too hard to get hold of later, good luck though and have a great visit!
Very informative. I like that you speak from experience. I'll be in Osaka middle to end of October. So I'm too late for summer, but too early for autumn leaves? 😅
Thanks for watching (I’m wondering if anyone is these days 😝 the 1000 subs excitement has disappeared very quickly!). Yeah it would be too early for autumn leaves in the low areas - Koyasan is worth trying though! Even if you don’t see the leaves it’ll be a nice trip if you go there!
@davidinosaka4069 I'm actually surprised your channel hasn't got more subscribers as well! 🤔 But I think it's just a matter of time. And then you have a amazing library of videos to hook them! You provide information that's not that easy to find on UA-cam and I really like your personal touche in your videos. 頑張ってね!
That’s very kind of you 🥺 I think I’m just online too much and when I stress out about making videos every week and don’t get many views I can just feel a bit stupid (and bitter when I see some popular channels…). But I am always happy to see your comments!! Thank you!
That site on the island seems extremely small for all the pavilions. I’m afraid the crowds will be overwhelming.
I wonder how it all fits together, I’m not really sure what to except about the pavilions. I think some countries are teaming up (maybe the Nordic countries?)
I am coming to Osaka soon. Let's connect!
There seems to be many special starbucks in Japan. 😮 I believe in Uji is a special one as well? Not a big fan, but Japan's Starbucks look great.
Thanks for the comment! Yes I think Uji is something special, I walked past it before, it had a lot of wood to blend in with the other buildings!
I went to a unquie Starbucks in Kawagoe Japan, it was wooden looking, i some how missed going to the Reserve Roasteries in Tokyo when i was there, i will go to the one in New York and Shanghai really soon though, great video keep them coming
Thanks for the comment! Oh I missed the one in Kawagoe 😂! Maybe next time! I might try to find some more in Kansai soon!
How far the walk to the castle? The train ride will drop you to the castle ?
Do you mean the mini train? It mostly goes around the outer ring - I think it sometimes goes to the middle ring near that bridge with the gold boat, but none of them go to the center. If you start from Osakajokoen Station, I think it’s the shortest walk to the middle, maybe 10 minutes. (Tanimachi 4chome on Metro is ok too).
Hi David, do you know anyone who has used Wise for payments ?
Hi, thanks for the question. I don’t hear anyone talking about them, it seems like it might be more useful in ATMs, and then use cash.
Hi David thanks for making all these videos about Osaka. I’ll be there this week. Do you know if there are traditional money changers around Osaka and which ones would you recommend? All the vids I have seen on youtube are about changing money via the exchange machines and I don’t know if that’s a reliable way to go. Thanks for answering.
Thank you!! Oh great, welcome! By traditional, do you mean like ones with staff? I mean there are Travelex and Western Union stores dotted around. I know there’s a western Union in the tourist advice office near JR Osaka Chuo/Central Exit for example, and a Travelex in Namba’s underground Namba Walk mall. There are some independent places that sell discount train tickets as well as money exchange, I’m sure they’re ok but they look sketchy 😝. If you want to be safe, Google Travelex and Western Union!
thank you! you're very knowlegeable!
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the walk through. We are going to arrive in Kansai International on March 13, 2025. We're headed to USJ for son's high school graduation trip. I'm a bit nervous about navigation the trains. I'm thinking about taking the bus because it looks much simpler. What do you think?
You’re welcome, thanks for the comment! I checked, there is a direct bus to USJ, so maybe that’s the best way, search for the Airport Limousine. If you go by train you have to change twice: once to the JR loop line (regardless of whether you come from KIX by Nankai or JR), and once again at Nishi-Kujo. If I were you, I’d take the bus if I was nervous! Good luck 😉
I'm waiting to receive my dvd limited edition copy, the package looks great. This album made me listen to cosmic explorer track and I love cosmic explorer album, maybe more than Future Pop and Plasma.
Oh that’s great! It was a bit expensive for me 😝 I want to listen to Cosmic Explorer and Future Pop again, I feel like I didn’t get them enough time compared to Plasma!

But you’re in Japan 😂 and we had North & South Americans!
Congratulations on getting to 1k subs, been watching for over a year now, your videos helped me last year before I went to Osaka for vacation, maybe make a video of Osaka food courts or Osaka Jiggly Cheesecake which is famous
Thanks for the comment, I’m so happy to hear I was helpful with your visit!! Thanks for the ideas too, I’m thinking of food recently too 😂
You got this 💪🏽
Thank you! 💪
Hi. Congratulations to 1000 subscribers 🎉 Sorry I missed your livr stream. Its 3am in Germany. 😂
Thanks for your comment as always!! I’ll try to make the next stream a bit more friendly for my European brothers and sisters 🇪🇺
thanks for the video @10:25 the price was 2,370 yen for haruka one-way ticket from kansai airport to tennoji. On the westjr page it says 1300 yen. I mean both are okay prices I guess for limited express usage, but I just wonder where the difference comes from Is the difference because of an "E-Ticket"
ah saw it now, seems to be a discounted ticket offer you can only buy outside of japan, and only for temporary visitors👍
Hi, thanks for the comment and question! I did some research, apparently there is a special “Haruka 1-way” ticket which is only available to foreign tourists, which is 1300 yen! That’s a bargain, I recommend that! 2370 yen was for a reserved seat for everybody else (like me)! Thanks for letting me know! I hope everyone reads our comments 😂
Yeah but the first time I’ve heard that! Good to know one day maybe 😂
Only 15 subscribers to go 🎉
Thanks! Although the big fight will be to get my view time up, I need that before I can get monetised!

Thanks for the very sweet message! I’m glad my videos could be useful for you, I’m glad Osaka is on your itinerary! Thank you for the video. I understand that Nankai Limited Express requires a regular fare ticket as well. What fare ticket is it actually, like do we purchase the regular train's ticket from Namba to KIX?
Thanks for the comment! Yeah Limited Express can be an extra ticket - but the one I bought in the video was a combo ticket (about ¥1500). If for some reason you have a regular fare ticket (about ¥1000) you’d need to buy the extra ticket (about ¥500), but you’re probably getting the combo ticket or reserving it as a set anyway. Just be aware that if you’re ticket is around ¥1000, that’s probably just the standard ticket and you’d need to buy the limited fare extra ticket to use the Rap:it
It reminds of of living in Sakura House. The price is great, but I don’t think it would comfortably fit two people
Yeah I’m not sure if I could even fit one person in there!
Thanks for the breakdown on passes! I hadn't thought about the difference between the Yamanote line & Tokyo metro...guess I need to look more into that. Very very hopeful to make it next year for the world expo!
Thanks for the comment! Yes Tokyo (and Osaka) has a bit of a mess of train companies so it’s difficult!! I hope you make it to the Expo! My advice is either before June or in October, this summer really knocked me flat!
@davidinosaka4069 thanks! Def hoping for may 🤞 have subbed to the channel & looking forward to watching more videos!
Very lovely area ! The room is indeed very tiny, but I like that they have lounge space in the building, you can sit on a couch, take a break in a more spacious place if needed. Daiki seems to have pretty minimal lifestyle and everything looks so tidy and nicely organised ! Well done
Thanks for the comment! Yes it reminds of first year of uni (apart from the kitchenette)!
Wow, I pay 114 788¥/monthly and have like the three this units. Still, for single guy, easy start to the life. But only if a income is more than 160 000¥.
Thanks for the comment! I’m jealous of how much money he can save, mine is about ¥72000/month!
I like this, we have nothing like it in the UK.
Not for that price, anyway! 😂 thanks for the comment!
10:22 Denny’s is nasty. I remember going to one in Ikebukuro, because it was the only food place which was still open late at night. A mistake.
Oh really? The diner style restaurant doesn’t really have a footing in the UK. I’ll just stick to Saizeria in Japan then 😝
I’m really intrigued by what the Nebula Romance - Episode 1 Tour is gonna be like given the album theming. Over time I’ve found Perfume’s album tours to be their weakest, because they are kinda conceptless and the setlists never make sense. Plasma being so light on Triangle songs was so weird to me, given they would have worked so well. We shoulda gotten “Night Flight”, “Dream Fighter” and “The Best Thing”. But, nope. We got “Natural ni Koishite”, “Party Maker” and “Star Train”. Nebula Romance - Part 1 is so easy to make a concept out of and build a tour setlist with. So I hope they get it right. BUT. For you, the Plasma tour made you like the album more. So that’s something. You seem lukewarm on Nebula Romance - Part 1. So perhaps the tour will sway you a little more.
Yeah me too! I saw Plasma on 2 consecutive days thanks to the ticket lottery and worrying I’d get nothing. The first night I was a bit disappointed but I ended up enjoying it a lot. Having the stage in the centre was good but limited the amount of laser extravagance they usually have. But they still did some cool things. I’m enjoying Nebula Romance as a complete album more than any standout huge moments (Ima Ima Ima comes closest for me). Not a bad thing I guess it’s never going to give me a huge first impression then. (And Jikuuka needs some justification in that tracklist, it’s like gliding down the space highway for 25 minutes and suddenly realising Google maps sent you down a dead end). Thanks for the comment!
@@davidinosaka4069 I really like “Jikuuka”. But I completely get what you mean. Plonking it in-between “Time Capsule” and “Mobius” wasn’t the best idea sonically, even though it makes sense thematically. I feel similarly about “Starlight Dreams” being wedged in-between “Cosmic Treat” and “Ima Ima Ima”. Album sequencing has never been a strong suit with Perfume. Nothing ever makes sense. Like, Cosmic Explorer ending with “Hold Your Hand” instead of “Star Train”. Or LEVEL3 having “Mirai no Museum” sat between “1mm” and “Party Maker”. I always end up having to re-sequence their albums. Let’s see what they do with “Jikuuka” for the tour. They should put songs like “Negai”, “575”, “Dream Land” or “Spice” either side of it, but they probably won’t. I actually think “Jikuuka” would make for a really cool dramatic opener.
Are you British? I was happy and surprised to see “plonking” in your comment 😝. Yeah I’m betting on Jikuuka being the tour opener! I guess that’s where the missing album opener went. I loved Plasma (the track) as an album and tour opener, goosebumps!
I would want hatsune miku to preform Mesmerizer World is mine Popipopipo (I think that’s what it’s called lmao) Or anonymous m Or zankyousanka by aimer
I hope you can see that one day!
hello Mr.David. we will be going to Osaka this November. From the airport my wife wants to take the Haruka Hello Kitty train. But our hotel is near Hanazonocho station on the Yotsubashi line. Is it better if we drop at Tennoji station, then go to Yotsubashi line ? Thanks.
Thanks for the question! Yes I think you are right, take the Midosuji line at Tennoji, and change to the Yotsubashi at Daikokucho Station. Just be careful, you have to switch to the other platform, the platform you arrive at will have Midosuji and Yotsubashi trains but in the wrong direction! But I think it’s the fastest way! Have a safe trip!
Great info. thanks
Thanks for the comment! I’ll reply to your other question now!
Hi David, I'm going to the Expo and will be staying 3 months in Japan. How should i go about to look for an affordable place to rent ?
Oh that’s nice! Renting is notoriously hard for foreigners though, especially for short-term. To be honest I might suggest a share house, it’ll be cheaper to stay and more friendly to foreigners (in fact it’s probably their target guests). Are you planning to stay in Osaka the whole time? The advantage of a share house is that, like a hotel, you could stay in one area (like Kansai) for a while, move to another one like Kyushu or Kanto, and cover a lot of ground!
@@davidinosaka4069 HI David, brilliant. I had never heard of the shared house concept. How does one go about looking for them. Ideally I'd like to focus on the expo. By experience, i know i ll need at least 21 days not necessarily uninterrupted . I ll get an expo pass but will cover different regions around the country. I ve been looking fwd to visiting JP for eons .
I’m afraid I don’t know much about sharehouses from my experience, but they usually have a focus on international cultural exchange so I think it might fit well with you. At least sharehouse (シェアハウス) is the word I heard used. It might be best for the mid-term stay you’re planning. I know you saw the JR Pass video too so I guess that’s the only other thing I wanted to suggest, depending on your itinerary!
Thanks a billion David. With that info I’ll dig to find something. Have a great one.
You’re welcome! Have a great one too, maybe I’ll see you there! 😝
New subscriber here! Thx for your channel, I’m headed to Japan for my birthday in a couple weeks, last minute decision and your videos have been very helpful. You’ll get to 1000 subs in no time!
Thanks for the comment and subscription, it made my day 😃 I’m glad it was useful! If you have any last minute questions, let me know!
May i ask, which prefecture have more waterfall / nature attraction ? I want to go there from tokyo
Mm well there are a lot of places, but I don’t know so many waterfalls. I think the most famous one near Tokyo is Kegon Falls near Nikko, Tochigi prefecture. It’s in a national park, and Nikko is really nice anyway! It will take some time to travel there and look around though, so if you are able to stay for one night there, it’ll be better for you!
Great video
Thank you! ☺️
Should I buy a ticket for a 4yr old to occupy a seat on Japan trains?
Thanks for the question! Unfortunately yes, if you want a seat for a child under 6, you need to buy it (although I guess that’s half price). The risky approach (I’m not recommending it) is to try the unreserved car in the Shinkansen and get the aisle seat of a 2-seat block (one side has 3 seats, the other has 2) and hope it’s not too crowded that someone wants to use the 2nd seat. But you would probably have to move your child on your lap when the ticket staff are coming through (a lot!)
Hey David. Thanks for another deep dive information video. Your knowledge really shows in those 😮 I have a request : there is a ramen food court 一座 in Edison department store at Nanba. Im dying to try it. Maybe you could have a look (and slurp) for me?
Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it! You’re right, I have been there but I didn’t make a video yet. Maybe I should make one about Edion Namba so I can include it! Thanks for the idea!!
Hello, David. I plan to stay in Osaka for only half a night and half a day. My plan is to land at Kansai Airport at 2 PM, and I have already booked a hotel in Shin-Imamiya. We will check out the next day and move to Kyoto. What I want to visit in Osaka are Dotonbori, Osaka Castle, and Shinsaibashi-suji. Could you please advise on where to start first? Thank you so much, David.
Hi, thanks for the question! Well, after you arrive and check in to your hotel it might be after 16pm already, so my advice is to take the JR Loop line to Osakajokoen Station (or Morinomiya if you want to walk in the park a bit longer) and see Osaka Castle. I think you’ll be too late to go inside but don’t worry about it, the outside of the castle is enough. After that, go to Shinsaibashi (if you walk back to Morinomiya you can take the subway directly on the Nagahori Tsurumi Ryokuchi line). Shinsaibashi-suji runs parallel to the main road, if you exit at Daimaru dept store, it’s on the non-road side. Shinsaibashi-suji starts at Dotonbori so if you follow it south you’ll get to Dotonbori, which is the best/easiest place to find some dinner! Have a great trip!
Muito instrutivo! Vou usar na minha viagem para o Japão!
Obrigado!
Hi! Was wondering how long did you spend at each location?
I didn’t spend that long because I’d been before, I was by myself, and I wanted to take videos of all 3 places. Maybe 1hr in the castle, 30m in the garden, and 1hr+ in Mt Shosha. You could easily skip the garden and spend longer in other places, just be careful of closing times and bus times!
I found you😂
見つけた!笑 thank you!
your clip was god sent, arigatou! oh n is there a shortcut to daimaru? i remembered seeing the daimaru building from afar but had absolutely no idea how to get there!
Haha thanks for the comment! Yes there is! The easiest is to go out of the Central/Chuo Gate and turn right, you’ll see the entrance at the end. If you turn left out of the Sakurabashi Exit, it’s pretty close too! Good luck 😉
@@davidinosaka4069Midosuji Line is my comfort zone 🤣
Well, you can come out of the Midosuji Gate instead, and turn right, then when you go out, just go right again and you’ll reach Daimaru that way! I just realised the Bridge Gate (3F) is easy too, just go out and turn left, Daimaru is right in front of you!
@@davidinosaka4069 tks will revisit tis page nearer to date!
@@davidinosaka4069 hi David, where’s the bridge gate? 3F of where?
from Kuro I'm always impressed that David knows characteristics of Japan better than Japanese people. 😊 This time suika, kakigori, summer festival etc. Also I felt pictures of the back cut were really good and fun !!
Ohh thank you Kuro-san for your comment!! Haha I don’t think I know better than Japanese people of course! But I’ve had 10 years of hot summers so far, this summer is too hot 🥵…
Nice walk. Thanks for taking us along. Like 8 from your newest friend👍❤️
Thanks for the comment, k really appreciate that! 😊
Thank you for your presentation. When I spotted the title of this clip, I thought you may make recommendations of areas’ to stay in Osaka, based on, specific areas of the city and what they offer. I will be traveling to Osaka in September 2024 and I am trying to figure out what may be an “ideal” location of the city to stay. I am interested in city lights and vibrant engagements as cultural and historic sites. If you were to expand this presentation and indicate, from your 10 years in Japan, which specific districts offer specific things. For example, should I choose a hotel in Downtown or Central Osaka or the Dotonbori area for city lights, good food (which you hinted at). Just something I would find most interesting and helpful, from an experienced resident of the area, such as yourself. Thanks again for your very nice presentation.
Thanks for your comment! I guess I made the video based on how I choose hotels - a rather cold analysis of reasonable prices and easy travel. Based on your comment, I would recommend Namba or Shinsaibashi - my friend always stays at Hotel Nikko in Shinsaibashi. As for places to visit, I’ve done the Best 50 places in Osaka video (and a best 10 version), and “Is Namba worth visiting” (and a Tennoji version too), so I hope that helps with further information. Have a great trip and if you have more questions, let me know!
You saved me making a significant mistake! I'm flying Kansai in a couple of months with Peach as it happens.... I am flying out with JAL I hadn't even checked but its from the other airport!
Oh wow, I’m glad I could help!! Yes Kansai Airport is KIX, and Itami is ITM! Happy travels :)
I found great deals around Imamiyaebisu Station, I looked up street view and it seems residential. not very touristy, but it is one stop away from Namba station. do you recommend it for our first visit to japan ? we are going to stay for 4 nights from our 14 day trip to japan.
Thanks for the comment! I’d never heard of that station, but that’s in the Nishinari area, that’s a kind of rough area, so that’s why it’s cheaper I think. It’s walking distance to the Osaka Loop Line which isn’t bad - Namba is good but not useful if you’re using Osaka as a hub for Kyoto for example. But for Nara that’s not bad. Just check the reviews of the hotels (and be suspicious if there aren’t many reviews!)
It’s all so shiny! Great video 💚
Thanks! Nice to see your comment again! I realised I haven’t done many night walks
Awesome video and underrated channel! I'm heading back to Osaka and Japan at the end of the year and this helped a lot
Thank you! I’ve never been called underrated before! 😊 I’m not done yet, I’ve still got more travel advice - also check out my Top 50 Places in Osaka if you’re coming soon!
Hi, can i see this if i came the in the first week of November instead?
Mm it might be hit-or-miss, it can depends on the weather at the time. My best advice would be to go to a mountain area, the leaves turn earlier. Koya-san in Wakayama might be a good option, I think that changes earlier
