I'm a Rapala man, anything slow sinking or floating around 90mm or bigger does the trick. Count down Elite 95 are my fav or Shadow Raps jerks!!

We used to catch monster wolf herring off the palm cove jetty north of cairns . They are sensational live bait if you can keep em alive long enough
Noting wrong with coutta as a tabl fish, just you reaaly need big ones to avoid being dogged by a million tiny bones, But they were over-fished commerciall, by the 60s.

Normally I do eat fish but everything I caught in Mackay was released! Even those big Flathead on the flats.
Most people should release what they catch because we should be supporting our fish farms and commercial trade. Fishing should be for mostly sport
