Apache Thunder (aka Heater T4) 31.72

Apache Thunder ran a good time at his trial tonight considering he got a costly knock at the beginning. Youu can't see it in my video because of the rose bushes but you can see it on the website replay. He doesn't appear to be a good wide draw box dog...think he would prefer the inside as he heads straight for the rail. He's in the pink rug, number 8. He ran 31.72 tonight and still needs to run...

Heater (Apache Thunder) tries again to qualify at Cannington (12/6/13). He is racing out of box 1 in the red rug. Bounces out fairly well but seemed to get a few slight knocks and maybe a squeeze or two in running. At his second trial last week he ran 31.65...this week he has run 31.64. He will eventually make qualifying time of 31.60 and with a bit of luck that will be next week. Good luck fel...

Apache Thunder runs his first qualifying time trial Wednesday 29/5 at Cannington. Ran a very good time of 31.89 but needed 31.60. Hopefully he'll trial again very soon and be fitter for that run. Seems to be a brilliant beginner...looked like he was all on his own for a split second lol. Are we seeing a future champion here? Let's hope so :)

      It's around about the 600m mark where He's Remarkable looked like he clipped the heels of the horse in front of him and almost fell in front of Ranger who in turn was very badly checked and then caused Lucky Gray to be checked who was against the paint effectively losing him about 1-2 lengths...

      margoli31 No wait...let me correct that...He's Remarkable did shift out and caused Waratah's Secret to almost fall in front of Ranger - you can see McEvoy actually turn his head as he knew he'd caused interference...it's lucky there wasn't a massive fall.

    In Black Caviar's case I think the owners were pretty set on a DJ start. And Moody has had a couple of close calls there. He had an air of unfinished business going to Royal Ascot. In terms of travelling though the difference between Asia & the UK is not that stark. Both S'pore & HK, while much closer, are more difficult on travelling horses than the facilities at Newmarket. Japan is even worse again. I know where I'd rather go... Royal Ascot is the pinnacle of world racing.

  • @bgardiner2000
    @bgardiner2000 11 років тому

    If you have a horse good enough to win decent races here you probably don't really need the money ;) An entire is worth much more with a Royal Ascot win under his belt than an Oakleigh Plate.. fillies are the same. If you have a gelding then there's the world sprint series... which is worth the effort if you can win multiple legs. The big thing is though... the organizers of RA pay for everything to attract the best horses. Add to this the pomp & ceremony & you can see the allure.

  • @bgardiner2000
    @bgardiner2000 11 років тому

    I think the timing is everything. We generally send some pretty good ones to Singapore & to Hong Kong. Japan is extremely difficult to get to nowadays from ANZ. It's easier to get there from Europe. We have some nice races for sprinters in the spring/autumn so I guess there's a clash. If they are good enough to go & win in Asis then they are good enough to win here most of the time. & you don't have to travel. Travelling horses is far more difficult than most people realize.

  • @bgardiner2000
    @bgardiner2000 11 років тому

    I think it's worth about the same as ht Lightning... a little bit less. Still a very nice race. Yeah a place chance at best though. I have no doubt that Atlantic Jewl will be at her best over 10-12F. Her win in the Wakeful was outstanding. There was a reason why she was so tight in Cox Plate markets for so long. She's got the pace to match it with best over 6-7F... but has a much better range. Who knows how she'll come back though.

  • @bgardiner2000
    @bgardiner2000 11 років тому

    Yep there is plenty to look forward to in the Autumn. I wonder if Kav will have Atlantic Jewel back in the Autumn? Power Princess looks a chance to go to the KrisFlyer. I think it's a big ask for her but it's not often as an owner you'd get one good enough to get an invitation to a race like that. Why not? I think she might struggle against a Lucky Nine or a Little Bridge but would bre massive for her breeding value. Will be great to see BC back in action. 35 straight... wouldn't read about it.

  • @bgardiner2000
    @bgardiner2000 11 років тому

    It's a pretty tough gig to win a Group 1 sprint race in Australia... wherever it is. WGR has run into a few good ones including More Joyous, Black Caviar & Sea Siren. He just scraped home against Spirit of Boom giving him only 3lbs in the Bobbie Lewis. Against the better sprinters he'll probably need everything going his way to win a G1 in Sydney or Melbourne. Yeah Barakey at the moment looks like he'd go better in the lead. He didn't handle the corner in this race well when 1 off the fence.

  • @bgardiner2000
    @bgardiner2000 11 років тому

    I think he gets in well at the weights in a race like the Oakleigh Plate or the Newmarket. I see they've raised his rating to 112 following his maiden G1 win. Taylor still thinks he'll get somewhere near the minimum... but there's not likely to be much of a spread without a Hay List or Black Caviar. I think he's going to be a better horse up the straight though.

  • @TheCoombie87
    @TheCoombie87 11 років тому

    bit harsh lucky grey top weight dead last at the 400m turn he got 2nd from there it wasnt a strong field there is a few group 1 performers in there

  • @dylforster
    @dylforster 11 років тому

    btw pinwheel had a terrific run he was unlucky otherwise he would have gave this a shake

  • @dylforster
    @dylforster 11 років тому

    why compare it to BC when plenty of other horses would beat it.. But yes its an exceptional horse just needs to race the bigger guns to gain respect. It only just had the legs against a pretty ordinary group one field. remarkable 11 straight now time to race the big guns

  • @bgardiner2000
    @bgardiner2000 11 років тому

    BC is unlikely to race in a handicap with her rating. Hay List could still come in ok at the weights depending on what else is in the field. Weight is not important, just the weight relative to what everything else gets. If 58.5 is topweight in a race like the Newmarket, Barakey would want to get a lot more than 3Kg's from a horse like HL. Even Buffering etc. When you consider the mares allowance for horses the calibre of Ortensia / Sea Siren you'd want to get a much better advantage than that?

  • @bgardiner2000
    @bgardiner2000 11 років тому

    Moonlight Cloud would have been double figure odds in this field. There is some very solid form around TOB & Halleywell Belle (although she didn't really run near her best). And of course there is a direct form line between Power Princess and Black Caviar. I wouldn't say "cracker," but a solid G1-2 sprinting field nonetheless.

  • @bgardiner2000
    @bgardiner2000 11 років тому

    Taylor said that he was likely to get the minimum?? Not sure if that would be the case now that he is a Group 1 winner? The Black Caviar of old is practically unbeatable at 5-6F up the Flemington straight. Much will depend on how she comes back. If Barakey remains unbeaten I'd be surprised if he had a go at any of the set weight or WFA races against the likes of BC & Hay List. Ortensia is in the mix as well...

  • @bgardiner2000
    @bgardiner2000 11 років тому

    I think that the biggest danger to BC will still be a fit and well Hay List. Barakey might still be progressing but he's not at Hay List's level yet IMO. I hear that Hay List is making good progress towards an Autumn campaign (as is John McNair) that will hopefully put him right in BC's sights around Lightning Stakes time. Having Barakey in there as well will make for some interesting contests. A repeat of the last Lightning would be epic.

  • @bgardiner2000
    @bgardiner2000 11 років тому

    For sure. Her ability is to be able to travel at ~11s furlongs at ease with that massive, easy stride. Any other time and we would be singing the praises of another WA sprint star. Unfortunately though we've been so spoiled by Black Caviar... we might not ever look on such a talent the same way again.

  • @bgardiner2000
    @bgardiner2000 11 років тому

    You do know what eased up means don't you? Barakey did a lot of work in this race. With a nominal run he is probably 2l in advance of the difference here with Power Princess. Temple Of Boom was only (only!) beaten just over 5L in the Lightning this year by Black Caviar. And that is probably within a length of BC's best. Agreed that she was not at her best in the RS but the difference is more contracted than you'd imagine. 3-4L would be about right for mine.

  • @metminco

    I see the stewards couldn't hand Luckygray the race this year. B grade performer at best!!

  • @metminco
    @metminco 11 років тому

    You must remember that BC was not fully fit condition wise for the Robert Sangster. BC beat Temple of Boom by 8 or 9 lengths. Spirit of Boom is of similar ability. This will give you an idea of their ability!!

  • @bgardiner2000
    @bgardiner2000 11 років тому

    If you took the shorts on Luckygray, which I didn't, I think you would have been pretty disappointed with the ride of Shaun O'Donnell. Last then 37 wide on the home corner when they're running 34.5 up front for the final 3. Especially given he was top weight. Did a super job to get so close. Hats off to Adam Durrant... superb training performance both in this race and the day.

  • @bgardiner2000
    @bgardiner2000 11 років тому

    Out of interest the time Barakey ran was 1:09.6. The 6F track record was set by Danny Beau in 2008 in a time of 1:08 flat. Good performance though to do all of the bullocking work up on the speed. There's a reasonable form line through Black Caviar and Barakey via Power Princess who ran 3rd behind the great mare in the Robert Sangster in Adelaide. On this performance he is perhaps 3-4L behind an eased up BC. Still a worthy group 1 winner and another in the line of great WA sprinters.

  • @margoli31
