“Nothing Matters, the Importance of Nothing” — Reigen Arataka
The song is Wolfman by the Front Bottoms.
Mob Psycho 100 is the show, and Reigen Arataka is the character I edited the song to. The lyrics, “nothing matters, the importance of nothing,” stays in my head. It really just accentuates the fact that everything should matter.
The title, Wolfman, is like deceit, as if the man is trying to hide the fact that he is not a man. It is probably that he himself feels as if he doesn’t live up to the “title.” As if your actions justify your “humanness.”
I think it all comes down to self-matter. The concept of existentialism, unlike nihilism, is that nothing matters, therefore everything matters (The Stranger by Albert Camus was phenomenal in describing the feeling). I think when the singer is saying, “that’s what you taught me when I was barely listening,” his ex-girlfriend didn’t believe in the world, and fell into the ‘nothing matters’ mindset. It’s coping, it’s basically escape. But when the counterpoint, “the importance of nothing” plays hope is found. Nothing is *still* important, because it is *something*. So the whole idea itself is paradoxical.
Another way to see it, is that when ‘nothing’ gets assigned to something else, for example ‘friends,’ it’s easier to see the picture. The quote turns into “friends matter, the importance of friends.”The whole idea of friends is what’s making it so important. When Reigen confesses to Mob how he doesn’t have psychic powers, to me, it was the “importance of nothing” in him saying it. Mob probably already knew, but since Reigen’s character relies on deceit, when he told the truth, there was great meaning.

Я настолько "испорчена" катанием Hanyu и всё, что смотрю кроме него, рассматриваю только сквозь призму его стиля. Ничто другое меня не интересует. Шома Уно. Удивили низкие оценки, совсем не чемпионского уровня. Прыжки все удались, кажется, кроме сальхова. Хореография бесцветная. Не нравится поза "хоккеиста" в дорожках, тело почти всё время под углом в 45°, и так почти 50% программы "ездит". Не нравятся категорически его руки. То они в виде буквы " Т ", то какие-то плавающие движения, как у пловцов "вольным стилем" или стилем "брасс", хореография рук в такой манере мне никогда не нравилась, потому что это чрезвычайно скучно. Обе программы невыразительны, без какой-либо "истории" и вообще, наблюдая его почти 7 лет, он мало меняется и это однообразие стало уже рутинным. И последнее. Я его перестала уважать за неадекватное отношение к Hanyu, на ОИ-22 и после неё. Такие дела. Sorry, - если что не так. Это моё оценочное мнение. Желаю вам и вашим близким благополучия. ~ 🌞 ~
