Although I understand the statements made about a counselor having a spouse and military experience, seeing a marriage counselor or therapist is about both parties being heard, and receiving skills and coping mechanism to improve the partnership. These people you’re speaking to are not be to be your friend, but to objectively assist you in your situation. They have experience in their field. Would it be better if they have military experience and or are married? Absolutely. But don’t assume that they are unable to adequately help you overcome whatever it is that you’re seeking therapy for because they are not married and/or have no military experience.
