Salming Recoil Prime - The Smooth Operator. 1,000 km + Review
Welcome to another shoe review, this time we're talking about the Salming Recoil Prime, after 1,000 km +
DISCLOSURE: Salming NZ give me some help with shoes and other gear, but haven’t asked me to make this video, and have no input into its content.
CONTEXT: I’ve been using Salming shoes for quite a few years now.
I'm on my 3rd pair of Greyhounds which have done 1,340 km, and my 3rd pair of Recoil Trails.
I’ve been training for ultra marathons since 2021, and completed the Old Ghost Ultra in 2023 & 2024. So I’ve been doing a pretty high training volume for a while now, and the Salmings have served me really, really well.
I was excited to try out the Recoil Primes, which are Salming’s most cushioned shoe ever, and to see if they might be suitable for a trail like the year’s Old Ghost Ultra, and the many kilometers of running in the build-up to the event..
The Primes come with a new upgraded Recoil Plus foam in the midsole and SALMING say they’re designed for a smooth ride on hard surfaces.
The outsole is made of a blown, partly recycled rubber and the grip pattern and lug depth suggest 'multi-purpose' and which makes them a really versatile all-rounder. They’re be great on any dry surface, and have even served me well throughout the NZ winter.
They have a 29 mm heel stack and 21 mm at the toe - for an 8 mm drop.
They weigh in at around 300 grammes, depending on your size.
SUMMARY: The four main features that are important to me; the fit, the ride, the grip and the weight.
FIT: They seem to have a mid-width toe box area, and they don’t rub or irritate my foot anywhere, they felt a little snug initially, but are improving with every km.
WEIGHT: At around 300 g they are in the right ball-park, and on a par with most shoes in their class.
GRIP: They’re not designed for muddy New Zealand winter trails, but are great for everything else. The rubber feels pretty sticky and the outsole lug pattern gives extraordinary grip on a variety of trail, cycle path and road surfaces.
THE RIDE: My first impressions of the ride from the Primes is that they are VERY smooth, and it seems that the faster you go, the more cushioned they feel.
If you’re interested in the Recoil Primes they're available from SamingNZ. www.salming.nz
Thanks for watching. and Happy running.

Exploring North Queensland
Переглядів 1242 роки тому
An Australian Road Trip. North Queensland is a great place to explore. The scenery is quite varied, from warm white-sand beaches and lush tropical rainforest, to classic Australian eucalypt bush and grasslands. After flying into Cairns and visiting friends and family, we travelled south towards Townsville, before heading inland and up to the Undara Volcanic NP. We kept inland and explored the r...

The T-42 Trail Marathon, New Zealand. A Run of Two Halves.
Переглядів 2042 роки тому
It's been a goal of mine for some time to get south and run the T42 Trail Marathon. In an ironic twist it was due to 'the rona' that I was finally able to get there in 2022. The course is essentially the 42nd Traverse DoC track which is mostly a 4WD track and very popular with mountain bikers. It's located in the beautiful Central North Island of New Zealand under the shadow of the highest peak...

Cape Kidnappers Trail Run - Race Video 2022
Переглядів 612 роки тому
After a long period without much racing we were finally able to toe a start line in April 2022. Huge thanks to Jamie and Rachel and their team for persevering in trying conditions to make this event happen. The course covers 28 km on private farmland at Cape Kidnappers in the Hawkes Bay area of the North island, New Zealand. A lot of this year's route was new due to slips and flood damage from ...

As we continue to explore the South Island/Te Wai Pounamu of New Zealand/Aotearoa we keep discovering new mountains, lakes, trails and birdlife. This video showcases some of the highlights from our summer of 2022 road trip around the central South Island. We landed in Picton and headed south to camp at Taylor Lake and Ashley Gorge before venturing over to the West Coast via Arthur's Pass. Our r...

Great video Mark, brought back a lot of memories of our trips up north. When are you coming to WA?

Thanks Mike. Yeah, it's a great holiday location. Actually we're trying to get to WA in September next year. We're heading to Kenya for a few week to do a running race and hoping to return to NZ via Perth. It would be great to catch up and maybe get the gang together again too? There aren't many flights just yet, but we're hoping those routes will open up again shortly? It would be brilliant to catch up 🙂

Thanks Mike. It's pretty weird talking outloud to a camera, but I'm trying to get used to the idea. Very cool weekend in Hawkes Bay 👍
