It’s very common for Type I and II Diabetics to have kidney failure from pregnancy, let alone giving birth. I’m Type I, and am lucky enough to have heathy kidneys so far, and I have a 23 year old daughter. Diabetes has come a long way, and keeping your blood sugars under control is huge in keeping this from happening. It doesn’t have to. I’ve had Type I for 42 years and have no amputations or organ failures, Thank the good Lord.

My bestie, who had been one of the strongest women I've ever know, had to go on dialysis... She got Covid in March 2020 and it destroyed her body. Over the next three years she had edema in her legs so bad she couldn't walk and the skin split. She had a stroke, lost her teeth, her kidneys failed, and she had three "widow maker" heart attacks. The last heart attack killed her. Dialysis isn't a magic cure...It's hard, life altering, and something you have to think about all the time. Diet and fluid intake are a horror show!

My favorite was when she told her mother that she was pregnant... Her mom (Sally Fields) knew that she was a "fragile" diabetic and had been advised not to have kids. Shelby said, “I'd rather have 30 minutes of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special.”

Those guys forget they are human! So amazing!!
