Flew over to Oahu for a downwind foil race put on by the local crew. This was my first time downwinding on Oahu, and the light wind made for a tricky run. It was really fun to figure out the run, working through the challenging technical conditions, and feeling out a new run. 0:00 Intro 0:47 Oahu & Pre Race 1:00 Safety Breifing 1:42 Race Start 3:06 Race Finish 3:39 Final Results

too many cords. all it needs is 3 or 5 attach points.
6:06 "let's be real, downwind paddling is an incredibly difficult sport, it takes a lot of physical output and high level of endurance..." xD Surfers and windsurfers playing violin behind 🎻🎻🎻
Just a blade with a b and c lines paired +1k tres cher
for me, the price is abosuletely ridiculous, 1.500 € +- a 5m shiped to Spain....seems incredible, but i think today is too expensive
it's what iv always a kitter should acteueally have...just seems more realestic...id love to try it as if I were kitting...your on the water and so is the parading. your on the water reading the wind on the water and your Para wing is right there in the same spot...your not guessing on wind that your can't read that's 39 feet above your head yea Para wing...defentally
It's like "What will they think of next ?"
So basically it has all the downsides of a kite and of a wing with zero upside. Sounds like a fantastic idea.
Hi Steve, look good equipment, what model of yamaha, i look to buy one... But dont have millions
EXACTLY what I was thinking. The DW/wing board is probably ideal for beginners. But the midlength/bigger prone board may prove to be ideal in terms of float to get up, and size to rip! Would LOVE to try one eventually. Guys like you are invaluable because you've spent the money and help others determine if it suits their needs and budget. Big thanks!
Exactly my thoughts. Use it to get up and then it's basically a prone sesh, albeit with a bigger board. Until you animals start launching with tiny prone boards....
While I'm sure it floats for a period of time, I think it might be worth experimenting with some sort of floatation just in case. I'm sure eventually it would sink. I don't want to SUP DW. Hand paddles seems good IF the bumps are big. Wing foil is easy but the boards are huge and wing is annoying. THIS. Looks so sick! I'm curious if they'll ever have demo days to experiment. I'm curious if I could run a size bigger than a wing and go with a midlength board?
What a great review! I don't quite understand the pricing but I'm thinking of biting the bullet. Looks great to take off at nearly any spot and then pack it away and feel as if you're on a prone DW run.
I keep on thinking when i see the pumping movement to get the board up out of the water, isnt it possible to make it easy by including a spring and a joint in the mast? Once up it can be locked, But seeing a innovations lately it will be tried later. 😊
I think it needs to be rigid and translate all the energy. Spring would be too problematic in my opinion.
I hope they develop the "folding up" technology so you dont have to worry about that.
I wish people(manufacturers)would call these things what they are. Kite or sail. Not all these silly names. It makes my eyes roll. I have a trainer kite will try to make one of these
price?
LOL... the future.

Is it fun to ride without waves? Just on a flat lake?
Thanks for the video. Looks awesome! Does the size of the parawing equate to the size of a wing in terms of power? For instance, if I need a 5m wing to get up on foil in certain conditions, do I need a 5m para in the same conditions? Thanks
Good info Steve, thanks! we are from Costa Rica, can you send us this inflatable collars? we have a VX Cruiser HO. Puravida!
@@fortunoc send me a message on Instagram
Prerequisite DW board? Or can you ride a regular 60l wing board?
No
Great review 👍🏄🏼♂️
My dream was to have a board that could take me and my freediving gear out than be able to use the waves to get back. Why are you trying to go with smaller foil? I like your stow away wing gets me closer to my dream
Nicely done
you think the downwind sup boards would be the best bet? Or if not, what do you think you would change?
Why not just puff your shirt out then tuck it back in!
Great video … looking into using it for snow and ice covered lakes in Northern Ontario (Lake Superior) Assuming you would suggest the smaller sized Parawing .
I have used similar products for snow and Ice kiting dating back at least 40 years. We had snow kite rigs like this before we even had kites. I even put 6 to 10 foot extension lines on them to get into better wind stream. This might have even before we had inflatable kites.
Please make a video about board sizes for parawinging waterstart 🙏
shame they cost 1000 dollars, mad 😡
Why not just leash the wing to the harness? No worries about it coming out of the pouch.
So pricey.. maybe ill try to (get one)build one in poor country or wait for china to copy
Modern Foiling History…next year the kite will be inside the paddle shaft with the GoPro
it reminds me of the good old nasawing kite 4 lines
Love this. Wish my shoulder wasn't fhacked from kite buggy jumping.
This is cool. I was a windsurfer frequented spreakleville, rio vista and cabriilo. Now a PG freeflier. This is intesting to me.
Great.. another 10 cent made in Thailand gadget watersport shops can charge us some piss take price for.. Zzzzz
How do you like them? I’m thinking about getting them for fishing
@@kyleheiser6622 essential equipment. Just the extra utility and stability is worth it. Great for fishing
Cant wait to learn this sport. Looks like a hoot!

Great innovation but too expensive for a trainer Kite with a vertical bar
I've tried the 5.1m and so far it's been a total challenge. y'all are lucky with your winds out there... the 2.9m must be a dream to fly and just deal with in general compared to the 5.1m
@@OCEANBOUND1 I definitely agree, good wind helps with the learning curve. I can imagine the bigger sizes take more technique to use effectively
@@stevesurfs Nice to have Maui winds. Got a 5.1m and it's a lot of wing to manage. Need a longer wingspan to pull all that line in. Haha. @oceanbound1 do a review vid in some light winds.
Try 6.2! Thing is crazy cool but get it wet and Houston we have a problem.
I figured the bigger the wing, the hard it is to keep dry. And then the harder it is to launch. I'm curious about a 5.1M with typical 10-15knots.
Why would you use this wing instead of a common wing ?
@@achilledup1121 the main advantage is that you can collapse and deploy the wing on demand, so for wave riding you can get on the wave and stow this away allowing you to ride the wave without a sail. Same concept for downwinding
Lot of haters on here !! 🙄 I look forward to hearing progress of all the home-made trainer kite conversions . Don’t forget to factor in the cost of your hourly rates folks $$$. Reckon optimising the bridle setup is gonna take many many hours….. Kudos to Greg for putting the work in and coming out with something that really moves the dial for those of us that want to sail upwind then ditch the power source and ride the energy DW. Pure freedom
Just watched this on kite beach Maui today. Awesome for getting out and then foiling back on the wave.
Fantastic video. Thanks for sharing. So cool to watch the birth of a new sport from the beginning. We didn't have this front seat UA-cam viewing when Kitesurfing, kite foiling or even when Wing foiling was born. Good observations with the lack of depower and angle of attack from a sitting position. Will the Parawing (is that we are calling it?) evolve to a collapsible wing, that stuffs in a Robin Hood style arrow pack? I'm sure someone, somewhere is working on it.
put the parawing in the bar :)
Born kites vibes
Trying to recoup R&D in early adopters.
Glad to see your having success. I just received my 5’2 and went straight to the beach in 18 knots winds. Pulled it out thinking it would probably not be enough power to pull me up on the board. As it launched all by itself just like the videos I felt like my arms were going to get ripped out of their sockets and got pullles down the beach twenty feet before pulling myself together. I’m 156 pounds and typically experience 12-15 knots but I think I need a smaller one even in those winds. Good lord I see the potential for sure but that was shocking lol.
@@sadorno Good to know. Did you let go? Were you able to ride it or it was too much?. BTW 18kt creates roughly 33% more power than 15kt with same sized sail. I am always a bit surprised by when i do the math (squaring the wind speed). The energy increase in a couple knots is very non intuitive.
@@maca5645 too much wind the last few days so been winging Ordering the 4 and waiting for 16 knots or less All my friends been doing downwinders so didn’t want to try that on my first attempt in the water Hoping tomorrow 🤙🏼
GREAT info. I am on O'ahu. I typically see 12-15 knots up at this one spot and I've had luck with a 4.5M traditional wing I have a 6.5 that I don't even have to try to get up. I was thinking the 5M parawing may be ideal for those conditions. But now that i hear you saying you were overpowered, it makes sense. The 4.5 is ideal ONCE up on foil. The 6.5 is easy to get up but I am always overpowered once up and digging upwind as hard as possible and letting off some power/sheeting out. Really wish I could demo before pulling the trigger.
