Hello, I've been thinking about getting a MPH in epidemiology, but I am not sure if I need to pursue a PhD afterwards in order to get a decent job. Do you have any advice about this?
This is a great question! You definitely don't need to pursue a PhD in order to get a job in epidemiology. What are your career goals? Feel free to email me at officehourswithjess@gmail.com if you want to chat further!
Thankyou so much Jess ❤. It was really really helpful.
@@Vinita_dagar I’m glad you found this helpful!! Let me know if you have any other questions.
@ Any suggestion would mean the world to me 🤲🏻✨🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♂️ just wanted to ask that what are the things that one should not miss , so just to be on a safer side and inc. the probability of being selected other than the following?? 1. 1-2 internships (maybe at IBHAS or AIIMS etc.) 2. A good research project/undergrad thesis with the professor (currently researching about psychedelics and their therapeutic potential) 3. 9+ cgpa 4. a good side hustle/extracurricular that actually adds value. (Learning AI rn) 5. Genuine letters of recommendation and a well thought statement of purpose. I’m currently in my 4th semester(2nd year) of the 4 year undergrad (at Daulat Ram College, DU).. so I will be applying for the fall of 2027. I’m really sorry for such a long query. I’m trying really hard but was very overwhelmed lately..and just do not want to miss the chance. Once again. Thankyou so much for all you do. 🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♂️❤️❤️
@@Vinita_dagar Hi! Thank you for all of your questions! Why don't you email me and we can communicate from there? officehourswithjess@gmail.com
How does postdoc graduate?
There is not definitive "graduation" requirements - usually you find another job! Such as assistant professor job, lecturer, government, consulting, or industry job!
Keep up with the adventure Dr. Jess.
Looking forward to some “yum time” after watching this.
Great job Dr. Jessica.
thank you!!
Cool! Looks fun! Glad your family is healthy. Cheers!

hi jess! could you share a link to view your APHA School Health & Wellness Section? would love to see your research in action, thanks!

Gotod info. Laughter is the best medicine 💊 hehe lol 😂that's cool, connecting with people online. #moderndayliving great you made a career outta mentoring young PhD in public health applicants. Prob developed from mentoring dumbshit jocky exes lol 😂 HAGO
Very informative discussion! I especially enjoyed watching it as my area of interest is in Reproductive Health as well. Just wanted to ask you, Dr. Jessica, is it still possible to share your application materials (CV and SOP) with us? I've recently sent you an email, hope you’ll check it at your convenience!
Yes!! I just replied to your email!!
Thank you so much, Jessica. This lesson was so interesting, felt like it ended in 5 minutes. That river example for public health definition is unforgettable. I look forward to seeing more videos like this.

Cool. Glad life worked out fer ya.
I can tell you're happy. Congrats! 🎉 I'm happy that you're happy. Don't let the wedding be the highlight of your relationship, make it just the start.
Without failure, there is no success, you cant have one without the other. Just like the is no light without darkness. The world balances itself out. Play to your strengths. Find someone that fulfills your weaknesses like i guess you have. Cheers jessica! Office hours with andrewshu69 haha 😂

Yo, hit those funny bones! Funny teachers are the best!
Damn gurl, Harvard and Yale? Just running amuck through those elivy schools lol😂
did you receive more funding from ucla or yale?
@@justineisaacs7056 UCLA would have been more affordable actually since I would have gotten in-state tuition!! But I ended up working and TAing a lot at Yale to help me make things more affordable. I hope that helps!
Thank you, Jessica, for the tips. I think the summary part is often overlooked in statements. I also did not realize that my SOP does not have the "everything tied" wrap-up at the end.

Thanks a lot, a very well put beginners guide to the basic functions!
I'm glad you found this helpful!!
People often mix up sop with PS,so hope its all about the real personal statement structure which mentioned on Harvard website. Also plz share your ps ,i have already written, want more structural change
Yes this is a common question I get, and a change since I have applied to PhD programs. A "Statement of Purpose" focuses more on your research experience and career goals, whereas a "Personal Statement" focuses more on how your life experiences have brought you to where you are now and wanting to pursue your career goals. I hope this helps!
Well done for this great discussion.

I am somewhat freaking out even though appearingly, I'm 'there'.
@@DrSueRob don’t freak out - YOU GOT THIS!! That’s so exciting you are about to defend and just know all the years of hard work will pay off!! Congrats!!
Also, I agree that Harvard professors are really nice and polite. I got a reply twice from a professor. even though he said they are encouraged not to have a conversation with applicants to give an even opportunity to everyone, he was very kind and wrote a very detailed long email. I appreciate that.
I'm glad they replied! Professors everyone are generally very nice and love talking to students, that's why they are in academia.
Thank you, Jessica. It is a bit scary to hear that your friend could not get accepted to PhD programs. It was great advice to apply to schools that are not high-ranked. I am getting my all recommendation letters from professors in my department. Is it a red flag? I think you mentioned in the video that you got your LORs from professors in different programs and classes. Good luck to everyone with their PhD application.
I think it is fine that your recommendation letters are from the same department if they speak to different strengths (or as long as they don't say the exact same thing in all letters).
Thanks
Your welcome! Let me know if you have any questions!!
Good stuff Dr. Jess.
A great Masterclass and looking forward to more.
