    Did you use some sort of grade 8 equivalent of all thread? I don't imagine the typical hardware store kind would hold under much stress, infact I know from experience in using it to bolt together suitcase and/or wheel weights in order to increase front end load of my tractor I use for the heavier duty plowing/etc type stuff, that it can/will bend. Maybe its different since the weight is held differently in this application, but ime grade 8 is always a must for things like this

    • @thedelcodave
      @thedelcodave 11 днів тому

      Its 3/4 diameter 50000 psi tensile strength zinc plated. The way the force is applied in this application to the rod is under compression . In the example you provide you are using the bolts relying more on Shear Strength which for sure a grade 8 bolt is stronger in shear. I have lifted some really heavy things with the forks and have not had any problem with the 3/4 rod clamps.

    Wow, the Woodmizer method wastes 50% of the log. As you have demonstrated, most of your boards are not 1/4 sawn . It is easy to see that band saw cannot be used for 1/4 sawing. The best machine for 1/4 sawing is the flipping head circular saw. With that machine you will have truly 1/4 sawn boards.

    I bought one just like 40 years ago( minus the stand and motor). It was in the middle of a snowstorm and some rural roads were becoming impassable. It was in a chicken coop at an amish farm and was complete but in poor condition . I put it in the back of my vw rabbit! I built a stand for it and installed a 3/4 hp motor. I learned a lesson when refurbishing it. I was taking apart the fence locking mechanism and removed a set/ hex screw that was retaining a shaft and i couldn't separate the parts- unbeknownst to me there were 2 set screws in the same threaded hole. I ended up stripping some left handed threads on the shaft and had a machinist fix it. Did you try re-torquing the head to see if the original gasket was properly clamped up? A lot of folk seem to find the head will tighten down a fair bit after it has run a while. Might just have been enough to solve the oil seepage if there were no other head gasket failure signs like coolant loss. It's interesting that one of the changes made when they designed the AD3-152 engine was to add three more studs down the intake side of the engine that must significantly improve the chances of a good seal there.

    • @thedelcodave
      @thedelcodave 4 місяці тому

      @@ColinMill1 I did not try just a retorque. It's not much more work to change the gasket and it was neat seeing the conditions of the cylinders. You did not show the most important part. After you get your filters in place turn on the fuel and then bleed the first filter inline and then bleed the second filter. Both bleeders are at the top of the filters. This gets rid of all the air bubbles. Any air left in the line and it will not start or it will run for 30 seconds and motor will die. If so just re bleed the filters again I use XP3 diesel fuel treatment the best I ever seen for getting rid of water in fuel A bit pricey and hard to find. Last time I bought it it came from Canada. . They have it for gas motors too.

    I am having the same issue currently. If I take the top of the filter off to get to the fingers and top plate , will the water from the pool keep overflowing out the top of the open filter ???

    • @thedelcodave
      @thedelcodave 5 місяців тому

      @@dougbrodsky3745 you should have a shut off valve at the skimmer basket and one at the return to the pool just shut off both valves and you will not lose any water. If you do not have valves just disconnect the hoses and hold them above the water lever.

      @@thedelcodave Unfortunately, no darn shut off valve at either location. Just straight flexible hose connections. Been like this over 20 years. On my second filter. Nothing ever easy lol

      Ah, I see. Yes sir, feeding speed is very important. Might be as well an future improvement to add an chain driven crank to improve constant feeding speed as well. Might also be an option to put a drill on it. Cheers. Overall nice work, I really like the effort.
