Is my brand new tire bad? Michelin Commander 3 vibration Part 1
Переглядів 5 тис.2 роки тому
Sorry for the vertical format! Installed a new tire and wheel bearings last season (spring 2021) and I have been chasing a vibration in the front end since. I have long suspected the tire, but the bike shop had never seen a bad Michelin before and insisted it was something else. I continued to diagnose and replace anything remotely out of spec. The shop that mounted and balanced the tire and in...

Essential Motorcycle Camping Gear
Переглядів 22 тис.3 роки тому
Here's a look at what I took on my 5 day motorcycle camping trip.
I loved the Nickel fun ride. Not as scenic as the Back of the Dragon but still beautiful. Had a few surprise buggies and horse drawn wagons with road apples to look out for but that actually added to the flavor.
Thanks for this. Just bought a road glide with tour pack and I want to camp to save the $$. Only challenge is we ride 2 up so gotta get more stuff packed on the bike.
Have been trying for 30 mins to get pin connector back in any tips how you did it
Pfft, easy with saddlebags and a trunk. You probably have more storage than a Smart Car
That compensator nut you are pointing out... it might be what mine is experiencing. Shifting to first from Neutral sounds like the gear spinning freely. Thank you for showing and telling about that. I haven't seen any other information about that anywhere. Time to take my primary cover off. Thank you, thank you! '99 FXDX
Looking at it ain't gonna fix anything!!!
I have a brand new set of Michelin Road Classic tires on my 2022 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and have a horrible wobble on my front tire. I at first thought it was the rear tire and did a small burnout snd found the wobble still happened. My shop that installed them was great to try and rebalance and check them again and then said it was a wobble in the tire. Im going to just live with it for now and know in the future I will never get Michelin tires again. It is super annoying to feel that wobble at 25-55 mph.
Archaic piece of farming equipment... if a tractor is what you want, then get a tractor, but no matter what you do to it, you'll never get it to perform like a Lambo. Let the tractor be a tractor, change broken part with new ones. The V Rod would have/could have been the best engine for a bagger, but the response was a Jap bike made in Germany... so back to the tractor... it is what it is like it or not...
I just put new commander 3 on front on my 09 fast bob, and i have the same issue,
I missed the Pinch pin torque.
Did you check the clutch bearing for any play?
No it is not nor do they back their warranty. My dealer has had the same problem with two other riders coming in. All of us got denied and he no longer recommends them.
O.H!
I.O.!!!
555 is overrated i live in Zanesville at the start and ride motorcycle don't listen to the hype serious
I am having the same buzz but with Metzler ME888, but when I lean either direction the buzz and vibration goes away. Bearing feel good.
Friendly advice. Hand thread all bolts on the wheel at once. Then tighten, hopefully not experiencing the washer being misaligned.
My compensator seems loose after I put it at spec is that normal , when I day loose it just seems to slide on the splines ?
No it shouldn’t move. It’s bad replace
Perfect!…the way I like to see and understand! Q: No need for lock-tight on any of the bolts?
The single use rotor bolts have a factory applied thread locker. The rest don't require any per my shop manual. Consult your bikes manual of course! Ride safe ✌️
Great video it explains allot I'm hoping that my bike has the same set up good job keep it up
I drove 555 from Athens to Zanesville a few years ago. I didn't like it due to the blind crests. Too many & too big for me.
The blind crests make the road exciting. I prefer it to the dragon.
@grogman1911 To each his own my friend stay safe out there!
Sr 26, 145,148 are all better and longer rides. Nothing in Ohio compares to the Dragon. I have ridden all over s.e. Ohio and 555 is fun but others are equal or better.
Today December 2023 do you recomend bro? I’ve 2019 Ultralimited
I have been running the American Elites and really like it. I have not seen the redesigned Michelin nor have I heard anything about the changes.
Compensators are junk even the screamin eagle one. Install a Man O War black horse compensator it’s far superior than harley junk. And it’s early serviceable on the bike.
An excellant word of warning of St RT 555. I live about thirty miles from the South end of 555 and it is NOT my favorite road to ride. There are so many other, prettier roads to ride in SE Ohio. St. Rt. 124 from Pomeoy to Hocking port is one of my favorutes. There are places where there is a rock wall on one side of the road and the Ohio River just a few feet from the other side. A little father North you find Nelsonville in Athens county. I like to ride RT 78 from Nelsonville to McConnesville. There is a view on Rt 78 just before you get to 555 that is breath taking. And there are many other side roads that take you to such places like New Straightsville and Shawnee. Rt 13 is a nice ride from Athens to South Zanesville, not very challenging, but a nice ride. Even farther north in Hocking cointy where you find the Hocking Hills Region. Here another favorite is RT 374, I love every inch of it, but from there you can find Thompson Ridge which takes you to Laurelville. On the ridge there are some views that remind you of the Blueridge Parkway, but not near as high. There is also Big Pine road which runs down in the valley from just east of Laurelville and almost back to Logan. IN the same area is Rt 664 which is nice and Rt 56 from Athens to Circleville can be challenging, but I'm OLD now and ride a lot slower, so to me it is just a pretty road to ride. I hope you explore some of these roads and maybe make videos of them, share the beauty. Ride safe and enjoy every journey.
Thanks for the route recommendations! I will check them out and report back!
Nice setup, similar to mine (I have just more cooking item's) Stay always safe😉
So, which "side" is better? The left, or the right? 🤔
Thanks brother great video
Great advice no bull shit
Replace that f-ing chain tensioner ! You'll thank me later !!!!
Excellent video! NO one speaks about the "what ifs" and what is really going on, they just video about how great of a ride it is, and I am sure it is, but nice to know some cautions from a rider's point of view. Thank you for sharing
Glad you enjoyed the video. Considering making a few more "from my experience," type videos soon!
The compensator should be disassembled to inspect it....
Thank you for video. Was your vibration when you applied brake or without braking? I’ve had brake vibration on 2020 road glide limited between 65 and 75 mph. Dealer replaced rotors, pads, and hardware on front wheel and all was good. Also replaced both tires due to wear. 4000 miles later, same vibration is back. Taking back to dealer shortly. Just wondering if problem is similar to yours. Thank you.
Both my clips came out and if it wasn't for my light wires I would have lost my bag, unfortunately it damaged the lid only
I had the commander 2's on 2015 Limited low tour. Yes tour tires. Place on correctly. When I would turn any direction, I would feel this vibration! Bearings good ect. So lived with it. Now I just got the commander 3s.. but there is one thing different of this front tire how its mounted rotation wise! If you look at tire rotation of the 2s to the 3s front tire. You will notice that the tread design is not the same as old 2s. 2s looked like to shed water as the 3s does not. V of the tread points forward on the 2s to shed water. Yet the Front tire on the commander 3, looks as to bunch water up dead center. Now, old 2s i had on, every turn I felt this vibration in every turn, even in the slightest lean. But now on the 3s on dry road, Smooth no vibration. Yet, I am still confused as to how this front Commander 3 tire is to shed water when it looks as to collect water at center! But no vibration at all. Very smooth.
Are the rotors supposed to have some play?
I'm hearing a noise in primary I hear it when in gear also in nuetral when back tire rolling and I even shut engine off to hear better and it was still there? Any ideas like a whine slight click noise
How do you replace the stator with these style primary?
You'll have to take the inner primary cover off to replace the stator.
Pull off the compensator, clutch, and chain as one assembly. Remove all bolts from inner primary to the engine case and all bolts from the inner primary to the transmission. Pull off the inner primary and then you will have access to the stator. Stator removed is pretty much self explanatory at this point. Hope this helps. M.S.
Since you had the cover off already you should have changed the compensater ( non HD). Also the tensioner to a Hayden way better than HD. Take Care
Yeah, that's only a thousand dollars to fix what's not broke......
Until ur comp breaks...@@seanlee2650
If you're going to post a how to video on UA-cam, at least have the decency to do your video in landscape instead of portrait format. Otherwise, you don't maintain much credibility for intelligence.
Michelin has agreed to replace a noisy 14 21 date code with a 28 22 date code. The sipes were changed in 13 22. Got to hand it to Michelin for the response.
Hi I have the same problem date code the same , I have 5k mikes on mine my bike shop doesn’t want to help me with warranty
Wonderful I have date code 14 21...feels and sounds like running down a road snake
Nice setup. The one thing I don't see are the soft lowers for your crashbar. Installed in only two minutes for a ride thru the rain or really cold weather!
I have thought about getting a set! Ride safe!
If you add up what you spend on camping gear..a couple of nights in a Motel is all you get..best money you can spend is on Camping gear..I have stuff I purchased 20 years ago ,still using it😄
Bear Lockers..Thats where I would spend the night..inside the bear locker!
Change compensator, replace auto tension with manual one
I'm having the same issues on brand new michelin scorcher 11s on my 2021 Fat Boy.
Really worthwhile video ... I get SO tired of video content that offers very little substance but endless blabbering. I agree with 95% of your points. Appreciate the effort to put this out there.
Did this last week for the first time, agree with everything. Went from south end northward. Took it slow, still got caught off guard on a couple blind curves. Then I hit that area of tar snakes.. not fun. Had to really be careful.
The Vibration issue is because of your tires. Michelin Commander 3 are junk they cause the vibration...
Do you have aftermarket cams? I put in some Woods 222 cams in my 17 Street Bob and now have a knocking noise coming the compensator. I was told I need to put in an aftermarket Compensator because of increased torque, etc. This motor is equipped with a more heavy duty Comp. Also told you should be able to tune out this noise. What is correct???
