More liberal brainwashing and propaganda history rather than a critical history, The welfare state DOES NOT "NARROW" the gap between the wealthy and the poor. It just gives them enough money from starving to death and it maintains the reserve army of labor that corporations need. It essentially buys off the working class so they wont demand a more equal distribution of capital and stops people from wanting socialism. You should read a Marxist critique of the welfare state. I have some academic sources if you need them. If you are going to teach a legitimating history at the very least you could also supply a critical history.
