WINNERWELL TRIPLE-WALL Heat Protector Chimney + Small Nomad Stove Update 🔥
Here’s a quick look at the Winnerwell triple wall heat protector for the small Winnerwell nomad stove. Plus a second burn test for the Small nomad stove. In conclusion, i am happy with both pieces from the company. but seeing how my tent has a stove jack spot, i wonder if i could have less bulk by finding a flashing kit instead. More to Come!

The best way to get rid of the smoke problem is to buy a couple extra pieces of stove pipe...the extra stove pipe will create more draw up the pipe
oh thanks so much for the tip! have not heard this one so i will look into it for sure! thanks for watching :)
Don't burn pine and go ahead and get it hot
great tip. will keep it mind! thanks for watching 🏕️
Buy an extra spark arrester, fire proof mat and a water pot!!!!😊😊😊😊
good idea! i’ll have to look into it, thanks for watching!
I like best the one without the window in the side.
i debated between the two, ended up going with the window view :). thanks for watching!
How many burns have you done?
so far quite a few with no issues. i am currently working on a video using this stove out in the field! thanks for watching!
I have the large Winnerwell Woodlander with all the accessories and tested it for about 6 months last fall in a wall tent. Went through every kind of weather and the location was very windy. So here are some tips: I recommend never opening that top hole while the stove is in use. It's nearly impossible to fit it back down while hot. (In fact, the hole itself causes most owners a lot of problems the least of which is escaping black smoke. They should never have made that feature it's better in a cast iron unit. I intend to cement mine down and never use that feature) That being said, the reason I purchased the large is because that fits standard quarter split wood without a lot of extra effort. It's easier to get a fire up to temperature too. The medium and small require me to reduce the size of my wood pieces. The only issue I've had is with the rain guard on the spark arrestor. It fits fine, but it doesn't completely keep out the heavy windy storm rain. (I have an idea to try covering it completely prior to a major storm, but must remember to remove before use again) Many times I had to fire up the stove just to dry out rain that got into the pipe oven and stove via the stove pipe. (I use it with the triple wall and the Winnerwell stove jack. Some of the rain I can prevent by cutting off the tent stove jack zip cover. That is redundant with the Winnerwell stove jack disk cover when the pipe is removed anyway.) All in all, the Woodlander is their most beautiful camp stove and quality made, in my opinion. Hope that gives some insight into it's use.
amazing! thank you so much for the input. why do you plan on cementing the top hole down??? i havnt had much issues putting it back on while hot as of yet, but i havnt been able to extensively use it out in the field as of yet. the company does make quality products i agree
Both pieces performed great together. Anybody that hot tents knows smoke leakage is the number 1 no no. Hoping to get both pieces out with the hot tent this winter 😎
I believe the black liquid was just manufacturing oil. When the pipe heated, the oil burned and smoked--I don't think the screw was leaking internal smoke from the fire because once the manufacturing oil was burned off and gone, the smoked stopped.
yeah you may be right! i haven’t had any issues since this first time. thanks for watching!
I've had that stove on my boat for the last three years. No issues whatsoever. One of the best things I've bought in ages. Three cosy winters.
it’s been an awesome piece of outdoor gear so far! turns out the issue is not letting creosote build up by closing before it gets hot enough. once i learned this, no issues at all!
Well I love this cot and have never had issues setting it up but I paid attention to the instructions and do shake it, that easy. I’ve had it for several years.
That’s fantastic! I’m glad not everybody has difficulties setting this cot up. It is indeed a great cot!
We in the south don't have that much snow we use a wagon and if it snows we put the wagon on the sled
smart move, thanks a bunch for watching!
I lived in a vista 1 cot setup the winter of 2022 into 23. Negative 30 wind chills was the only time i had ice building up inside. Im 6ft 350 lbs and was totally comfy
amazing! love to hear that taller and people with a bigger build are able to comfortably use this tent! Hopefully more people see this!
Great comparison! I’m going to get the vista 2! Thanks for helping me make the decision!
no problem!! glad you found the video helpful. check out the cot options for the vista 2 if you’re interested!
does anybody have this one or one of the other sizes?? how has it been for you??
I have the large version of this which is almost too much for the tent I use. ( Nortent Gamme 4 ). I also have the Woodlander in medium which is plenty. First two burns were outside and I have only ever used seasoned hardwood. Burns clean and hot. I'm thinking of having the round plate in the top welded in as I don't use it. No problems at all. Great stoves. Use good wood to fuel it and learn how to manage the burn with the flue damper and air intake for whatever your intended use is. No need to have it roaring all the time as I have seen some do. Important if you will be hot tenting. Check out how from some of the more " experienced " you tubers. A lot of people doing unboxing vids need to. Also, be aware that there are risks with CO2 build up using portable fires in poorly ventilated, enclosed spaces like tents, vans, boats etc.
thanks so much for the tips! i’m curious as to what you mean by “good wood”? care to elaborate?
Creosote build up comes from burning at a too low temperature. It will flow down as syrup, but should not even be there. Always start a fire top down (Norwegian style): kindle on top, denser wood at the bottom. Start the fire at the very top. This will give a fast and clean almost smokeless burn. The kindle should burn fast and hot to generate a good air flow into the chimney. If the stove gets too hot, manage this by closing the air door in front some more: less oxygen. It's a great funny stove.
i appreciate the input! you’re correct, i took the time to learn more about clean burns while using wood stoves . i tried and tested this and had a leak free, almost smoke free second burn test and i was very happy with it. i will be posting about it soon, thanks again for the input!
I have the large version of the stove, I noticed when first few time uses, the smoke release those creosote and building up on the pipe will be collected by the joints or the hole of the damper, The smoke is not from the the burning firewood, it’s the creosote buildup when reaching the burning point. It’s normal i guess just a little design flaw, the smoke would have dragged out in the chimney by the hot airflow. If u see the brown stuff leaking anywhere, try to wipe them out immediately and they eventually seal up the holes and hopefully will eliminate the smoke
this makes sense. i recently had a second burn test without leakage whatsoever. i also learned a bit more about trying to have a clean burn which helps tons. i’m working on the video about it and will post soon. thanks a bunch for your advice.
Ever get other answers about the smoke?
someone mentioned that it could have just been a little creosote build up, but once that burns quickly it dissipates which is what happened with mine. i will be working on a follow up with a second burn test.
That top plate on yours looks pretty sloppy. I bent the little tabs on mine to tighten it up and make it fit nice and snug. I don’t recall seeing any smoke come out of mine, but then I never take that top plate off either,,,
thanks for sharing, i’ll look into how to secure that top lid. I did find it odd being able to see the flame through the cracks of the lid 🧐
@@thecampsite I have the large version, and I'm thinking of having that top plate welded in as I don't see myself using it. The dealer I bought mine from told me that some people seal them with fire cement.
oh very interesting. so far, i bent the tabs for a tighter fit and havnt had any problems so far. i will be doing an update on this soon!
A thickness and compressability demonstration between the two would be good
Hi, thanks for checking out the video. compressibility depends how how much you inflate the pads, and they both have a thickness of 2.5 inch. hope this helps!
Appreciate the size differences as I just ordered the Vista 1 plus the XXL cot and XXL mat. The Vista 2 seems to be quite a bit more bulky and I considered it since I have a small dog but ended up with the Vista 1 since the pup is about 30 lbs and I'm 5'8. That cot makes a huge difference in my opinion as you'll be able to sit up, and be off the ground.
glad you found the video helpful! i agree, the set up with the cot is a very nice system, especially when sharing with pets :). Thanks for watching!
Vista 1 goes so well with the cot and rain fly I love it
it’s a great setup! thanks for watching
Thanks for this video. The instructions for putting this cot together we terrible and I can see why a lot of people thought these cots were defective and sent them back. Very quick simple to assemble once you can see how it's done, TETON should hire you to do a video for their site as well as making a new user friendly set of instructions that show these steps clearly. The small B&W instruction pics were useless as it was hard to tell what you were looking at for orientation of the pieces.
Glad you found the video helpful!
Thank you for the review. Whats the length of the vista 1 bag before unpacking the tent/ fly?
glad you found the video helpful. the packed size is 69 cm x 18 cm x 18 cm.
@@thecampsite Thank you very much for the video and the reply. Very helpful!
straight foward, great video
glad the video was of use!
exactly what i was looking for, you rock!!! EDIT: your even my height, mega props!!! :)
glad the video helped!
You nailed it buddy, nothing beats a good time out in the wild and making a nice meal over an open fire. Awesome job.
thanks for checking out the video! Even happier you enjoyed! cheers 🍻 🇨🇦
Do you know if there is a cot set up for the Vista 2?
yes there is! The vista 2 can take TWO of the “Teton UNIVERSAL camp cots” that go under the tent so the tent is elevated. While the vista 1 can take ONE “Teton XXL camp cot”. Hope this helps!
Thanks a lot ... this is the comparison I was looking for!
glad the video helped!
What is the outside height measurement of the vista 2? I am trying to fit it in a truck bed with a cap on it and I only have 43 inches. Thx
Hello! i do not think you will be able to fit the vista 2 in the back of a truck bed with a cap on it. the measurement listed for the vista 2 are “208 cm x 152 cm x 104 cm” opened. If you do, there will not be any room for much else. Hope this helps!
The Vista 2 wouldn’t fit the XXL Teton cot, or would it? Thanks for the review.
Hello! The “XXL Teton camp cot” fits under the vista 1, while the Vista 2 takes two of the “TETON Sports Universal Camp Cot”. hope this answered your question!
@@thecampsite thanks. I have this system and is awesome.
thanks for this. Great to see the comparison
Glad you found the video helpful
For vista 1, can i use a coleman folding cot or any solo cot and put the vista 1 over it? I would expect the tent will be larger than the cot so as to prevent water pooling under the tent.
hello! do you mean put the tent on TOP of the cot or put the cot INSIDE the vista 1??
@@thecampsite hello, putting the tent on top of the cot. So it's elevated.
it would take an xl sized cot if you wanted to lay the tent ON TOP of the cot. Teton has a cot for that. i actually get my cot INSIDE the tent, i will be making a video on that soon.
Any questions???
Let me know if i missed anything you wanted to know about the tents ⛺️
Looks gooood!
