A system that employs the idea of using the left lane of a controlled-access highway as a passing lane only, seems functionally incompatible with zipper merging based on how most of these zones get set up. In what other scenario is passing on the right, darting across lanes at the last second to exit, or merging at an inappropriate speed compared to the flow of traffic acceptable?

Funny, I found this link randomly in a Reddit thread about zipper merging, and have experienced this same thing on Hwy 16 twice in the past couple months after moving back home from NC... Blocking of the soon-to-close lane and all. It's stupid.

Did you report the two drivers with plate numbers to law enforcement? They have been trying to encourage/ educate the drivers up here in SK how to merge correctly, Local police have said on the talk radio station that if people deliberately cut you off like that to report them

Typical idiots not knowing what a zipper merge is. Folks- it's there for a reason- use both lanes and TAKE TURNS at the merge. The MN State Patrol will give you a ticket for blocking lanes like that.

I lived in Delafield from 1970-1977 (near Maple and Bryn). Nothing but farm fields and the A&W stand back then.
