Unsuspecting hiker barely escapes massive avalanche (sound on)
On my way back down to Lake Louise from an ascent of Mt. Lefroy May 14, 2021 I noticed this hiker crossing under a very large avalanche path, and then witnessed the scary close call that followed.

Kain Face Via the Patterson Spur, July 14-15, 2018 Do not attempt glacier travel unroped (or climb solo for that matter) unless you are 100% sure of your ability, the conditions, and you fully understand the consequences of what you're getting into. I had extremely fortunate travel conditions, took my time probing every step when on glacier, and was completely comfortable with all the terrain I...

Via SW Face, June 11, 2019 Just needed one last snow mission before accepting that the season is over... ! From Moraine Lake an hour of dry hiking got me to snow beneath the south side of the peak. Skinned up the lower third of the face, bootpacking was required for the remaining 700m or so to the summit. Overall angle isn't very steep (less than 40 for most of it) but there are a few chokes th...

    This was a great video and awesome achievement, this mountain is on my list someday,that's a lot of gain and some pretty gnarly zones 😀 how would you compare this to say the cascades such as Rainier?it's obviously wayyy more technical, how did you minimize danger on the glacier being solo?nice work!!!

    • @brettbilon5699
      @brettbilon5699 Рік тому

      Thanks for committing! I’ve never climbed in the cascades so can’t give you any comparison unfortunately, but for glacier I’ve found that it’s 90% about the conditions and route selection and 10% making sure you’re probing constantly & deep.

    Mate, well done!! You've got balls. I've soloed 2 very large high angle glacial faces like this, and people have no clue how gnarly/scary the shit really is. Particularly solo!! Hey question: When you said that the snow softened, making the descent straightforward, how soft are you talking? Like soft enough to lay the edge of a snowboard? You did this in July, I'm guessing?? Thanks for posting this!

    • @brettbilon5699
      @brettbilon5699 4 роки тому

      Russell Cunningham thanks Russell!! Definitely the kind of snow that would be ski/rideable, and it has been skied a bunch of times for sure. I did this in July but if you went for May/June it would likely be a lot better ski conditions in typical years.
