Welcome to our channel! We are glad you're here! A little about us...We are a small christian family, living in a small town, with big dreams. Here in Arkansas, in zone 8, we are learning how to keep family traditions alive by raising chickens, beekeeping, composting, gardening, cooking from scratch, housekeeping, canning and preserving. We are doing all this in our backyard while living in a neighborhood and working full-time. Our dream is to show others how to grow food no matter where you live. Join us on our journey as we explore and try new and old ways of growing food!
Fried Cabbage
I'm so excited to tell y'all that we grew that cabbage, that onion and that carrot! It's so awesome to eat the things you grow!
Ingredients:
Bacon grease or butter
1/2 package of cooked bacon or bacon pieces
1 chopped onion
1/2 head of cabbage
Salt and Pepper to taste
You can stop there but if you want to get a little adventurous here are some more options to try:
Minced garlic to taste
Peeled carrot to taste
Red pepper flakes to taste
1-2 tsp of sugar to taste
Cocktail smokies
*You can make this dish as a side or a meal, I made it a meal by adding the cocktail smokies
Recipe:
Heat up your bacon grease (or butter) on medium heat in the skillet. Next add your chopped onion and/or garlic and let them cook while you chop up your cabbage how you like it, then add your cabbage to the skillet with the onion and garlic, stir to mix together to get it coated with the bacon grease, that cabbage is going to soak up that bacon grease! Go ahead and add in a peeled carrot if you'd like, it will give it some color and added sweetness to your cabbage. Cover with a lid and let it cook a good 5-6 minutes, then uncover and stir, is it starting to brown? That cabbage will cook down as well. If it's starting to brown go ahead and add some salt (minimally if you used bacon grease or salted butter, don't want it too salty), add black pepper, I like alot of black pepper, cook without the lid for another 5-6 minutes, stir it up, is it browning? Add some red pepper flakes if you want to make it a little spicy, add your bacon pieces or previously cooked bacon, add the cocktail smokies, cook another 5 minutes or so, stir it around, get it mixed up together. You want your cabbage to brown up and your bacon and smokies to heat up. Brown it to your liking and then eat it up!! Let us know if you tried it 🙂

Homemade Vanilla Extract
Переглядів 565 місяців тому
I used grade A Madagascar Vanilla beans with vodka. You can use any vodka, find the cheapest, just needs to be at 70% proof or higher. I believe my bottles were 9oz, not 8oz, which I ordered off of Amazon this past fall when I made elderberry syrup. I'm a bit late in making this but I believe it will be ready just in time for baking season. #homemade #vanilla #vodka #extract #baking #arkansas #...
Garden to plate: Kohlrabi
Переглядів 1285 місяців тому
This was our first year growing kohlrabi and we will most likely continue to grow it. It does need space to grow, the leaves and the bulb are edible, I like a 2 in 1 harvest in a crop! I will say that not all of the kohlrabi bulbed up, but the leaves were still edible and they make great chicken feed lol. I started seeds indoors in January and transferred the transplants out in late February, t...

Just wanting to know how you made the feeder can you do a video on that pleae and thank you the green ones
The green ones? We purchased the green waterer at tractor supply.
No rawness in baked cake. Why a million dollar pound cake? Yummy.
Because it's that good lol! We love it!
Great job, thanks 😊
You don't tell how to order you should put a telephone number in how to order eggs that's what I'm looking for
Hi! We have ordered eggs before at www.southwestgamebirds.com
What a sweet sound
Lá galinha có
The butter looked very white 😮. What kind of butter you used??? And is that a 4 cup measuring cup you used for the flour also did not sift your flour. Never seen a cake baked like this didn't see the almond and vanilla extract added to the cake! However it turned out great. So I subscribed ❤
Hi! I know I used the great value brand of butter from Walmart, but I'm not sure if it was the salted or unsalted 🤔 it was definitely a 2 cup measuring cup but I filled it twice, the video had been edited and not all steps are seen exactly but I put all the steps in the description below the video 😊 and you're right I didn't add the extracts I forgot them but it was still delicious, nice catch! We are glad to have you here, welcome.
@@Droots-Straditions2021 yes most baker's say add the flavorings last, but I add mine after I cream the butter and sugar cause it's easy to forget lol.. this was the only pound cake my grandmother made except for her lemon cream cheese pound cake!
I watch all of your videos and I love them. I never comment bc I watch on my streaming on my TV. Please keep doing what you are doing! I moved to AR from CA a few years ago. I LOVE it here!!! Me and my hunkie hubby of 30 years went out on the mighty Mississippi for catfish last summer. We went out as husband and wife. We came back as two little scared girls. The wind came up, plus those barges... let's just say I will stick with the River that runs by my town now, thank you. Keep up the great work. You are giving me the courage to take another run at a fall/winter garden in 2023!!
Thank you, we are glad you're here 😊 the fall/winter garden is my favorite, less pest pressure and not as hot. I definitely had better luck growing summer squash in the fall. The river can be very vast and mysterious lol I'm with you, I prefer the lake or a creek 😅
hi is not clear, is the breader connected to the incubator?
I'm not sure if I understand the question but our quails are not connected to the incubator, we gather the eggs and place them into the incubator.
@@Droots-Straditions2021 Ok thank you.
hi do you have to wash the eggs before putting them in incubator to get rid of bacteria or so?
Nope, you take them just as you receive them and place in the incubator, no washing.
Enjoyed watching the video today im a little behind the chicks are so cute how big are they now wish we had a place so we could have chickens Thank you for sharing 😊
They are a week old today and getting sassy already
Enjoy your content. What part of Arkansas is this? Beautiful!😊
Thank you, this is over on the Montgomery/Garland county line.
@@Droots-Straditions2021 Beautiful.
I always watch your vids on my tv so I never get to give you feedback. I luuuuurrrve your videos. I moved here from central CA about 4 years ago. Never had a garden, etc… I am all in with chimkens and a garden that just keeps getting bigger. I am in the delta so I am gardening a swamp but I came from a place with 8” -11” rain per year so I am so happy. Please keep up the awesome vids!!! I bought so many seeds I will need to till and plant into the next three neighbors’ front yards to justify!!! You are a rockstar!!
Thank you for commenting! I'm glad you love watching! Wow you came a long way from CA to AR, the Delta has a beauty of it's own, love those cotton fields in the fall but the mosquitoes are unbelievable!! I truly believe buying seeds is a hobby all by itself lol. Yes I feel like we keep expanding, I just want to grow all the things! Happy Spring 😊
I already subcribe
YT recommended your pizza vid to me maybe cause I'm hungry right now 🤣🤣
Hi thanks for sharing, I have a few hatching at the moment, how long can I keep the hatched chicks in the incubator as I have more still to hatch inside and don't want to risk any of the unhatched from getting shrinkwrapped inside the egg
No more than 36 hours to be safe.
11:12 We have homemade pizza at least once a week too 😆 It is so yummy! -Cara
I really like your setups, especially for the egg laying cages. What kind of cages are those(small animal crates?). I wish you lived nearby. I would ask you to build me one! Also, what feed do you use for the layers?
Thank you. We used some material my husband gets from his father, its air conditioner gaurds, it comes in real handy to build alot of things. Also we are using 16% layer crumble feed, the brand is Dumor from tractor supply.
hello-Delta~beautiful content.💫
I never comment because I always watch on my TV, not my laptop. But I had to come tell you how much I enjoy your channel. I am really trying to emulate your success on the chimkens and the garden. My winter lettuce project crashed and burned last winter, but that dang summer garden (my second year trying it) made so much dang produce I was over it by September. Imma take another run at some lettuce this year. I so enjoy watching you, and your information is priceless!! I moved from California to Arkansas a few years ago, and I truly truly love this place!!!
Thank you and welcome. I'm getting excited about the summer garden, each year we try a new to us crop to see how good it does for us here, Cherokee tan pumpkins are on the list this year!!!
gives me spring feaver lol im so ready to plant my garden again
We've been getting our seed catalogs in and browsing through them, spring fever is real!!
Great update my friend. Thanks for sharing. Have a blessed day.
love these videos. cheers
Süß ich liebe wachteln
Like your setup. My only concern is the wire size. Snakes and rats can get in very easily. 1/2" hardware will help to repel the unwanted invaders.
🌻👨🌾🌼🐝I'm inspired by your garden. I’m have a backyard garden. I’ve really enjoyed watching everything grow and documenting the growth in my videos. I Love to document the progress. I’m learning so much from you and other UA-camrs. I hope we can learn more from each other! I wish you an abundant harvest!
Thank you. I learn new things every growing season too, I think that's what keeps me motivated, just to see what will happen! Happy growing!!
I did the bird feed bags and cat food bags. Only yielded a small harvest. I believe one of my issues was I did not create big enough holes at the bottom. Probably should have been holes about/close to 1/2 inch in size and more of them. I suspect I had rotting issues based on what I saw when I emptied them out. The ones I experimented with in-ground did better. I pretty much fertilized them the same and made sure to use bone meal. Will give the bags another whirl though. They are handy as stand in grow bags and containers. It looks like mine have one more re-use life.
This is one of the reasons I love gardening, there's just so many ways to grow food and experiment and who knows you just might find the best way for you to grow your own food, it's so fun to me. I agree the bags are nice to grow in, I'd definitely give it another go!
Just subbed, love watching, people from all around the world, growing their own food, from Australia
I only used a little dirt on bottom and filled the rest with straw ruth stout style
Yeah we definitely learned something by growing them this year, I will have to check that style out. I'm thinking we had determinant potatoes, they grew out instead of up and down in the containers.
I used my 20 pound bags of cat food they did better than my buckets
Please make an email so we can ask questions! We moved to AR from CA four years ago. Totally new to gardens and chickens. We ain’t Yankees but apparently we do talk funny… I love this channel!
Thank you for the suggestion, it's a great idea! We absolutely love this way of life, I don't know what I'd do without my chickens ♥️
It was good to see what works best in terms of bucket and bag. Also nice to see the die back and what I need to look out for. I think I will leave mine in a bit longer. For me mounding and earthing up works better as the potatoes grow closer to the surface. Great video, thanks.
Very good
Glad to see you still growing them well! I love all those different types of containers.
