Players get drawn in by the art style, the music, the open-word exploration, all of which are top notch. Unfortunately, then they realize it’s just a toxic PvP Fortnite clone that wastes all the potential of those great elements listed above. That’s why they leave and never come back. 🤷🏻‍♂️

As someone with almost 500 hours I honestly think they have overcomplicated an already complicated gameplay loop And locking the coolest stuff behind a pvp mode (ik they did this before with arena but it was actually possible to play back then, because the new pvp mode is kinda ass and just ends with you looking for a match for 10 hours just to get shit on by a guy who has 2000 hours on the game) I do like a pvp centric option however the arena was better than this. Also I find adding new wepaons into the loop has overcomplicated things way to much For example before you could only have 8 possible weapon combos each with their own strengths and weaknesses and you can use items such as blunder bombs to add even more of a stratigic element. Now there are 12 possible combinations you have to learn, now im going to be honest and say I haven't tried the new weapons however I feel that these new weapons just add unnecessary complexity to an already complex well balanced pvp system. Someone please tell me what role throwing knives play. We already have close range weapons, we have close to mid range weapons, and mid to far range weapons each with their own unique speciality geared towards their own unique niche. Overall I feel this game has fallen from grace for me not only due to the pvp side but the game honestly has lost its charm to me it feels more corporate than it used to and it feels like it has lost the simple to learn hard to master gameplay loop that made it so entertaining.

What went wrong was Xbox/PC community was straight up racist against us off jump even saying "you people are all the same" speaking of PS5 players. Why it's dying is because half the players are assimilating and becoming toxic rage lords just like Microsoft, an eye for an eye right? "It's sea of thieves not sea of friends" the other half of the players were expecting to have a nice chill time with their friends but also wanted to progress so safer seas wasn't a choice but they got sank/harassed/trolled so many times they just quit the game. Yes while there will always be thieves on the sea the game is about coming together as a community and raising each other up, instead of kegging a fresh spawn for a lvl 1 emissary flag... At the end of the day we need more people creating alliances instead of chaos, as the pirate lord Ramsey said to Kate "The sea of thieves is a place where enemies can enter the same tavern and emerge friends" We need more people coming together for mass farms and glitterbeard tributes than tearing each other to bits for scraps.

For me and most players i know its the fact that the hackers are getting way to overwhelming and Rare response to it is by striking channels down that talk about it and even banning streamers mid live stream for fighting hackers and not banning hackers

Because the game is a "hope a sweaty doesnt find me and ruin my night" simulator. After about 3 bad nights of that people uninstall the game. Safer Seas needs to be addressed if you want casuals to stay around.

I can tell you the problems, but no one listens, because everyone thinks it’s just newbies complaining about PvP. The truth is, the game is VERY unfriendly to new players. Even Safer Seas doesn’t solve the problem, because it’s too hampered, and there is a big lack of tutorials or help. Then add to that the fact that just when you’re making progress on a big quest like tall tales, you get hit with a meg PLUS a skelly ship PLUS a storm. Newbies can’t deal with all of that and they sink. Now, even in safer seas, you have lost hours of progress and you’re back to square one. When people complain about this, the community response is “git gud, bro!” and that’s it. So the game only caters to the medium and elite players. That’s all well and good, but when those players get bored, and there’s no fresh meat to prey on, they stop playing. Now the whole game dies, because they simply won’t focus on growing new players and they keep digging in their heels saying things like, “it’s a pirate game, of course you are going to get sunk constantly!” I understand the point, but you have to look at it from a newbie perspective. Even if that’s somehow “fair”, why should they want to keep playing if that’s their experience? 🤷🏻‍♂️ They don’t. And most quit. Especially since it’s free to try on GamePass. It’s also free to quit, and the game just isn’t fun when you’re new. It’s not.

For me it's trying to get a crew together that isn't randoms, hard to find anyone willing to commit enough time because missions are so long, and there's no player progression. I don't like playing the game solo, at best it's a successful mission but only NPCs as threats, or at worst I get outnumbered and killed by players. I wish there were servers for specifically solo sloopers only. Call it 'Lone Seas' instead of high seas or safer seas, that way lower level players would have a chance against other players even if theyre more experienced.

FYI THIS IS NO LONGER TRUE. Now if you get emissary quest and then lower and reraise you will lost your quest. You have to have the flag you got to 5 to receive the quest until you finish it now.

sot is literally unplayable for me and many other PC gamers. cant get the game to launch after trying every known "fix". sent a support ticket and they told me to reinstall after I just told them reinstalling didn't work.

My buddies and I usually play a couple hours but in order to get anything actually done and make any progress we have to throw at least 5-7 hours into a session which is exhausting. Not to mention everything is a grind. Just to make some decent money

Im only a 300 hour player, when i was younger i played on release for a bit and in 2021 i also played abit, however my little brother just got the game and has brought me back into it and im having a blast!

I always thought it was dying because it encourages players to kill stuff to get rewards but alot of the time the people who did the work won't get the loot because "It's PirAte gAmE!"

Xbox and PC gamers are leaving the game as well for the same three reasons. One reason is because all too often you'll spend close to an hour doing one quest and gather loot just so somebody can come sink your ship, still your loot rendering everything you did pointless. Two, the community is just the worst out there. Long time players and teams go after new players like sharks in a feeding frenzy. No mercy, and no regard. If you're new to the game, you will be eaten alive by the players who been around longer. Who wants to be the punching bag for a toxic community? Third, the game will punish you for "safer seas." Want to play a solo game and actually get something done without the hassle of playing with toxic players? Well too bad. Solo means no Captain ships reduce rewards. The game simply is not gamer friendly.

People quit the Ps5 version because they were late to the game. Getting raped every 5 mins by crews that have been playing for years gets old REALLY fast!!
